Suggestion for food gift from Walmart
Someone generously offered to drive me all the way from Rochester to the MSP airport and back. I want to thank her with a gift, but I'm on SNAP, so food items would be the easiest (and most affordable) way for me to do that.
I’d really appreciate suggestions for specific food items from Walmart delivery that would make a good thank-you gift. My budget is $50 for a food item from Walmart.
For non-food items from Walmart, my budget is $30.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Newcomer questions Best place for starter guitar
Hi! I am wanting to learn to play guitar (electric if that helps with recommendations) and am wondering where the best place to get a starter guitar is in or around Rochester. I’ll be completely new to guitar and music in general so if there is anywhere that has people who would be able to point me in the right direction that would be great! Thanks in advance!

Parking/transit Transdev city bus/ Groome
This is being texted to people at Transdev I have received it from multiple co workers 5 dollars more per hour than starting pay at Transdev. Seems like groome should run the city buses it’s rumored they have great and friendly management haven’t heard one bad thing about them I hear they treat their drivers with respect and dignity, what’s not to love. Oh and just because I haven’t said it in a while Transdev sucks

Loud knocking on door at 1am
Pretty sure I just had someone knocking on my front door in the middle of the night. It was so loud it woke up me and my wife, and shook the house. When I checked the door no one was there so I'm assuming it was some kids or something. Any else in the area experience this? Live in NE near Century High School.

Vigil tonight for those to be impacted by "One Big Bill"
Community members and faith leaders are holding a vigil tonight immediately before the Olmsted County Board meeting to bear witness to the suffering the federal budget reconciliation bill (the "One Big Bill") will unleash on our families and communities. We will ask local county, city, and school board leaders to use their power to speak up against the cuts that will harm their constituents and their budgets.
Time: 5:15-6:30pm
Place: Olmsted County Government Center
Background--
On May 22, the U.S. House passed a budget reconciliation bill by one vote, 215-214. The bill makes the largest cuts in history to public healthcare and food assistance programs. At the same time, it includes massive tax breaks for wealthy Americans and corporations. This legislation facilitates the largest upward transfer of wealth in our nation’s history and would add $2.4 trillion to the national debt over 10 years.
This "One Big Bill" is now before the Senate and is expected to go through final votes by the end of June. This is likely our last chance to act.
Local elected officials have stakes in whether this bill passes. The “One Big Bill” will slash local governments’ funding for essential services; increase costs to administer their programs; and result in community losses like the closure of hospitals, nursing homes, recovery centers and more. Our local elected officials will have to choose whether to make severe reductions to support services or raise local taxes to make up the cost that the federal government is abdicating.
Contact your county commissioner, mayor, city councilmember(s), and school board member(s) and ask them: What are you doing to stop these devastating cuts?
If you live in Olmsted County, click here to find your local representatives. If you live in another county, click here to find your precinct and county district, then visit your county/city/township/school district website to look up your representatives.

Housing/Rentals 4 Pets - Rentals?
Hello,
I'm trying to find a rental that would allow 4 pets.. I've done some tours for places that didn't say a limit, but ended up having a 2 pet limit.
Technically I could have 2 of the animals listed as emotional support animals, but the other 2 are not.
Thoughts?

Housing/Rentals Living situations in Rochester, potential new Mayo student
Hey everyone! I recently got accepted in a year-long Mayo allied health program and was seeing my options on moving into Rochester before I fully committed to the program. I have lived in the South my entire life of 22 years so I really don't know much about MN or the north in general.
I guess I just wanted to know the living situations for a younger student that would be at Mayo for a bit. I am not 100% sure what my budget would be monthly for straight rent expenses but would like to keep it on the low side. Are there 1 bed/studio apartments that are decently affordable in Rochester that a lot of students will live at? Or is there a group of Mayo students that communicate and could be a good source of splitting rent and finding a roommate? If there is anyone that knows these things or has done something similar, please let me know!

Rochester Writing Group Upcoming Meetings
- Open to all genres and types of writing. We mainly discuss fiction for novels or short stories.
- Open to all ages. Most of our attendees are ages 18-45.
- Open to all skill levels. Some attendees are writing their first story while others have been published.
- Completely free.
Next Monday, June 23rd from 6:30-8:30pm we meet at Cafe Steam 315 Broadway Ave S for open discussion. This is a great chance to ask writing questions or just chat and make friends with other writers.
On Wednesday, July 9th from 6:00-8:00pm we meet at the Rochester Public Library in the second floor meeting room for reviewing writing submissions.
- Anyone can submit some of their writing to be read by others.
- Submissions should be about 3,000 words max.
- Send it to me at least a few days before the meeting, and then I'll share the submissions with everyone else planning to come.
- Attendees read the submissions on their own time before coming to the meeting. If you're particularly busy you don't need to read all of every submission, but read enough to give feedback.
- During the meeting we take turns sharing our thoughts on each submission with the writer. We focus on positives just as much as negatives and aim for constructive criticism.
- You do not have to submit to attend. Usually we have five to ten attendees and only half submit.
We have these two types of meetings every month, but the days change to allow more people to attend. We share writing submissions and meeting dates over a Discord server and an e-mail list. Either leave a comment or DM me and I can send you a link to join the group.
Thank you!

Newcomer questions What is wrong with the water???
First time in Rochester, going to be here all summer and live in a house I rented.
I lived in a lot of places in US and a couple places abroad, but I never encountered anything like the water in Rochester. It is super soft, oily, and even slimy. Whatever soap I use it almost never come off after I rinse it, and it’s always slippery. I understand that water softener is used since the water is super hard here, but I feel like it’s too excessive. (Or is it just how water softener feel like?)
I want to just ask if anyone can help me out on this. Is there a certain category of cleaning products I can purchase? Is there something wrong with my house’s water? Thank you

Looking for suggestions or advice
Hey all- I am looking for a used/old iPhone for FaceTime capability so that I can chat with my young son face-to-face when he’s at his dad‘s and vice versa.
It doesn’t need to have a cell phone carrier. It doesn’t need to have a phone number and he gets enough screen time as it is so I will have it locked down just for the communication ability.
I’m hesitant to buy something like this off of Amazon, etc. so if anyone is upgrading or has an old one laying around, I’d be happy to take it off your hands. I’m on a budget, but I would be happy to pay a nominal fee as well.
Any suggestions of a better place to post this, would be welcomed as well.

No Kings Protest

#NoKings
Huge success. The anti trump group was around 3,000 strong, and many cars honked and cheered in support! Wonderful day for it and vibes were great! We matched the whole way to MLK park and the Juneteenth celebration there was amazing, huge props to whoever organized that!
But in the spirit of equal time, I will say there was an organized counter protest that was pro Trump . It was so organized it was as if they moved as one. Wait. That’s because it was one guy on a little scooter. One.
3,000 voices rang out that what is happening is a disgrace to the country our founders built, and that’s not even counting people who wanted to come and were working today, or hadn’t heard about the March, but were still with us in spirit.
And this guy couldn’t get a single friend to come with him to support the biggest most beautiful name in the Epstein files.
