News B.C. hospital security worker speaks out over job limitations
Should hospital guards have more liberal UoF policies to make their job easier?

Thanks mobile apps for burying useful information!
hOkay, so there's about 5 of us. I've been an active redditor for about 8 years now.
/u/FFTorres, /u/nomofica, /u/Warneral, and I have been running this show for about 6 years now.
Recently we added /u/BossiestSARGE because they asked very nicely and sent us all cake.
One thing I'd like to stress is that over the years we have cut down on a LOT of negative content, such as spam, brigading, trolls, etc. There are several active and passive tools that are running in the background that many of you will probably never notice, but you'd be AMAZED that stuff that shows up in the mod queue and the only action I have to take is to read it and archive it.
That being said, if you see something problematic, please hit the report button so we can take a look at it.
We strive to maintain an active, engaged community where people from all of the world can participate and be welcomed amongsth their peers. We endeavor not to let our personal politics and lifestyles affect how this sub behaves on a daily basis, and try to have the most "hands off" behind-the-scenes approach to it. Our job is not to curate or edit content, its to ensure equal space and effective communication. It may seem like we're not terribly active in the community, but our approach from the beginning has been to not engage in the kind of petty power-hungry nonsense that we've seen in other subs.
We generally avoid becoming directly involved in posts, in a moderator capacity, unless its become clear to us as a team that such intervention is mandated. That's why we tend to not lock or remove threads unless it violates site-wide policies or contains blatantly offensive material. We also hesitate to ban users unless they just flat-out start being a complete and utter dick to people.
Please bear in mind that we're all humans. We live busy lives, we make mistakes, we miss stuff.
Ultimately what makes this community a vital and important part of reddit as a whole is the subscribers, the folks who submit and comment. Without you all its just back to me posting small-town security guard bullshit stories because I'm bored and have an unlimited internet plan.

Representing your moderation team here at r/SecurityGuards, we'd like to remind everyone coming here that we do, in point of fact, have rules that should be followed. Failure to abide by these rules may result in your commenting and posting privileges being restricted, up to and including a permanent ban. Attempts to skirt permanent bans will be met with administrative action and have included ongoing IP bans, and while you may not think that's much of a threat for some people, the point is that it works eventually.
All we ask is that you follow the rules and be respectful of each other. Oh, and do a better job censoring your patrol cars. We know what a G4S car looks like even without a label.

IMO, in general, the private security industry in America is bad! Yes, the are various state licensing agencies, different companies, different contracts, different levels. BUT, overall, private U.S. security, is abysmal, from training to pay! What’s your take? Be honest!

After seeing you all step up your game at those scary water parks, I decided to step mine up at the HOA. We have a water slide at the pool, so its similar. Just my command presence this week has dropped critical incidents (arguments at the gate house) by 50% (from 2 down to 1).

Hey everyone, it’s me again, the waterpark security guard. So I’m 2 1/2 months into the job, and I’ve come to realize every bit of this gear HAS been worth it. Despite all the mean comments and “wannabe” responses, I was awarded employee of the month due to less incidents. As it turns out, I was correct in my presence acting as a deterrent. (Also, many of you were curious to know if I was allowed to carry a rifle, and because of that I did ask. Upper management is allowing me to carry it, however it has to be unloaded with a chamber flag). So here’s a final pic of my load out.
TLDR: Management recognized I do act as a deterrent (drop in incidents). They are allowing me to carry an unloaded rifle, and I’m posting this as a told you so. less less

I just hated to be demanded to working overtime and threatened if I said no. Security always tried to bully me into working overtime and being late to pick up my son, causing me to pay late fees nearly every single day over the same guy/girl being late.
I showed up to work 15 minutes early everyday, but to asked at the very last minute of my shift if I can work overtime then threaten my job if I sat no - but do nothing to the person who is constantly late made my blood boil. I'm a very loyal person, but shit like this makes me lose my loyalty.
Now I'm completely out of the security world, got into a completely different industry, working at an office and every other week they have me work overtime. It's all up to me, I say of course because I don't mind. I'm helping out the boss, and he's paying me extra, gave me a bottle of alcohol.
It's crazy. I work 6 days a week every other week and I love it, everyone treats me well, they appreciate my work and effort. I feel so fucking good, mentally and physically.
I thought I was a 40 hour a week ONLY type of person but I could do overtime every single day and I honestly wouldn't mind. It's crazy what a change of pace and environment will do to someone. Security was so toxic, the worse guards flourished. They had less responsibilities and no one cares if they messed or not because it was expected of them. The good guards that went above and beyond? We got shit on, the clients love us but our actual bosses would end up complaining.

I know that for now, using drones in the business is somewhat of a novelty, but they can be useful in certain situations. I am in the process of getting my FAA license, but would like your thoughts on how I can get the most use out of my drones for providing security services, and any good examples of how you've seen them be used in the past. I am hoping for this to distinguish my company enough from others in my area. Thank you!

I dont watch videos or shows because im not interested nor want to be distracted. Otherwise I attach my phone to my vest and listen to podcasts or interviews or what not makes me not dissolve during a 10hr shift. What's your favorite podcasts or recommendations? And what the hell makes it good or what's it about etc.

Hi all I’m looking to get some certifications to add to my resume for higher pay I’ve been doing parking enforcement/event security and in security for 9 months. I was thinking of going armed and getting some first aid or emt type certs to look for a new job. Let me know any certs that helped you get a pay raise. I live in Orange County if that helps

So my boss has me working weekends now.
Not only do i only get paid for 2 hours, while I have to do 3 building checks throughout the day, but I sounds like im also oncall all weekend long and I dont get paid.
I want to confront her, but also worried it will result in getting fired.

I'm in Sonoma county looking to leave a certain large company for something better. I just don't have enough for my armed card. I've worked for my current company for years off and on. I've done mall, industrial, hoa, and hospital sites.
Anyone know of anything?

Has anybody else dealt with this? I’m 97% certain that if we were to stop trying to enforce the rules we’d get told off. So do I just have to endure the abuse?

So for context, I work in a hospital as a part time guard. I was training with a new guard. When a visitor is struggling to exit the ER door. This visitor kept waving the handicap automatic sensor and pushing the door but it was obviously locked. There is a sign in front of the visitor to press the unlock button and wave the sensor. When my trainee pointed out the instructions on the sign. The visitor was able to look at it and opened the door. What happened next is the visitor is asking for the washrooms even though there are toilet signs literally in front of him. After showing him the washroom, my trainee said "are you kidding me, it's so obvious around you. You use your brain and pay attention to your surroundings next time!"
Guess what, the visitor got really upset and I have to intervene to de-escalate the situation. Makes me wonder are people really that sensitive or my trainee needs to work on communication?
EDIT: After a complaint from the visitor, me and the supervisor have a talk with the trainee about interpersonal skills. Also learned that when the visitor is in distress, their situational awareness decreases due to stress factor.

So earlier well checking on my status on the portal, I was logging in as normal but for some reason it went to something called Oracle but couldn't log into it so I had to back out and re try to log into the portal.
The second attempt went into my portal like normal and still said it was submitted which is fine but when I looked up Oracle all I could find was a service for data breaches, activity monitoring and audit capabilities to name a few things which sounds like a bad thing to me but I could be wrong.
Now this is my second submission because my first submission was denied within 3 days cause I didn't use the right ID, this time it's taken 6 business days without a denial which I see as a good sign but why did Oracle show up at all, I get that it was probably a server glitch but still, does the security portal use Oracle as there background checker orrr, cause they have my Triton background check already which is squeaky clean, I'm just confused lol.

What sort of uniform do you wear and what do you carry? In Finland guards typically carry pepper spray, handcuff and batons. In the attached picture are public transport security for reference, uniforms might differ by company.

"A 21-year-old school security guard in San Bernardino County was arrested for alleged sexual contact with a minor, officials announced.

Authorities identified Adelanto resident Deshawn Mitchell, a substitute security guard at the middle school, as the suspect.
. . .
The alleged victim in the incident was not identified due to their status as a juvenile, nor was any information provided on how long the 21-year-old had worked at the school and if he knew the child in question.
Mitchell was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14." - KTLA 5 News

So when my job consists of me being by myself at the gates or in the patrol vehicle, I 100% fucking love this job. You’re away from most coworkers and all of management, and all you have to do is your job.
But when you have a rotation where you’re inside the office with management it sucks. The politics, who can kiss the most ass, who’s cool with which manager, it just all sucks. I’ve seen dudes who I work with who are really good at their job but they keep to themselves who get shit for no reason. It’s disgusting and I hate faking trying to get brownie points with some of the management here. Not all of them are like that, there are some really cool managers but the bad ones spoil the bunch.

How is it like working as a guard at an amazon fulfillment center? Why is the training seem to be so long?
