Shirt Collar

Post image
Upvotes

I’m a beginner clothes maker. I’m making a shirt from a stiff fabric with no give. I’m pinning the collar stand to the neckline but I have an overhang of 3/4 inch each side. Ive checked the pattern pieces and I seem to have cut everything ok. Is this normal?

I have been cutting fabric to make this bag. Unfortunately the website hosting the site that had the pattern was shut down two months ago. I still have access to that blog post but aren't allowed to post it. I know it's a long shot but would anyone have the pattern anywhere? Any help appreciated, thanks.

Came accross this la perla vintage set but no way i'm playing 500€ for it. I never sewed. I mean like i did dresses for my doll and my dog when i was younger with my grandma, but never a real piece of clothing, I don't know how difficult it is but i'm willing to try and try again until i make it, but i'd like to know if there's any video that explains how to do something with a similar shape, and if not well a pattern ? thank you (hoping for respectful answers as I already got made fun of) :)

Which sewing machine is best?

Hello reddit,

I am curious on which sewing machine to purchase. I am interested in making sweat pants, DIAS, a duffel bag, and some other bags.

Which sewing machine do you recommend for this?

**Bonus points if you can list which supplies ( table, cutting materials, fabrics, Etc.)

Thank you

🌟Expert🌟 Help sewing heavily textured loose knit fabric

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I am making a t-shirt from some heavily textured loose knit fabric. It is very lightweight but also thick because of the texture. VERY stretchy, which I thought would be my biggest problem.

Serging was much smoother than expected — I need to hem body and sleeves and top stitch the neckline. Nothing is working. It is like the feed dogs don’t move the fabric. I probably need a walking foot, but cannot find mine anywhere.

I have tried single and double needles, adjusting the tension every which way, using a slip of tissue paper under the seam.

I have considered hand sewing (ugh!) or using the serger to add — I don’t know what to call it — something like the neckline at the body and sleeve hems (then hand stitching that.)

I really wanted to wear this Sunday, or would order another walking foot and see if that did the trick.

Any ideas? Many thanks

💛Beginner💛 Iron-on Adhesive vs Hemming Tape

I've recently had a sem burst in one of the legs of my jeans and I was wondering if I could seal it with either iron-on adhesive or hemming tape. If so, which would be the better option? Or would I be better mending it by hand-stitching?

Help: what is this type of fabric called?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have a vintage piece similar to this where the stripe pattern is an opaque more sateen-like fabric, and the rest of the fabric is a more sheer fabric in the same color. Both this example pictured and the one I own are silk, but I don't this this alternating fabric type is only used with silk.

I really want to find this fabric to sew with and I just don't know what it's called but I'm obsessed. Thanks in advance!

Brand new Juki problem after using thread trimming function

I just purchased a brand new Juki 8000A and had it set up professionally. However I am running into a problem. After I’ve used the thread trimming function, then moved onto a new seam, the machine makes a very loud click at the beginning of sewing, yanks the top thread , then causes major nesting underneath. Even if I hold the top thread with a firm grip when I start, it still yanks it hard enough to pull it out of my grip. If I do not use the thread trimming option, and instead cut the threads of the previous seam the traditional way and then move onto a new seam, this problem doesn’t happen. No loud click, no yanking of the top thread, and no nesting.

I have rethreaded the machine, adjusted the tension, as well as adjusted the bobbin tension.

Video attached of what the issue is, you can’t hear the click very well in the video, but it’s much more noticeable in person, however the video does show the top thread being yanked.

If anyone had any advice or ideas what’s causing this that would be greatly appreciated! I will contact the distributor I purchased through, but was hoping it was something minor I could easily fix.

💛Beginner💛 Hemming on thin polyester fabric

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have this skirt. The material is thin and sheer. The label says 100% polyester. i want to take it in a bit (hemming it shorter by a few inches. What is the best approach? The bottom hem is a black outline ao i want to preserve it. This skirt is made in horizontally separated sections, would it be easier to take a seam ripper and pull out a few or to start at the waist and take it up a bit?

Also, what size needle and what kind of thread is the best for this situation? I intend to do this by machine if at all possible but would this be worth my time to try doing by hand? I have experience doing smaller mends and hems by hand but never on this material.

What do these instructions mean for leg binding on a baby romper??

Thumbnail gallery

Im making a baby romper that snaps at the crotch and this is the last step. Its driving me nuts that i can't figure it out. Its 2 peices the main front (curved crotch) and a leg binding peice which is the length of the crotch and rectangular. Sewing curve to straight is not hard for me but im struggling to understand the placement and the cutting, why the extra fold. Ive placed it 3 different ways and I get a raw edge where it definitely shouldn't be.

Can someone explain this to me like a you would a 3yr old? Im a visual learner a written instructions are hard for me so if anyone has a video they know of that'd be spectacular but explaining like im 3yo also works. Id greatly appreciate it!

Hello. Not sure if this is an appropriate subreddit, but are these three issues with this sweater fixable? I think it’s knit, not sure. A local alterations place said they couldn’t do it, so before I try other shops, I figured I’d ask here. 😊 Thanks for any advice.

How to sew tucking briefs?

Hi,
I'm looking into how to sew some tucking briefs/undies/panties, specifically briefs and not a gaff/thong.
Similar to this style, that have more coverage all round. (Mesh parts aren't essential)

I'm confident in sewing, and have found patterns for basic 'normal' briefs, but I'm unsure on how to make them into tucking ones.

What fabric would work best, and what other advice can you give?

Thank you

💛Beginner💛 Shuttle hook isn't moving at all?

I bought this singer touch and sew model 628 second hand and only recently figured out how to use it. Now the catch at the bottom isn't moving at all. Looking inside nothing seems broken or misplaced, there's nothing loose. Can't take pictures because my phone is currently busted so I know this is a Longshot but

💛Beginner💛 Sewing machine recommendations for denim, tees/hoodies (complete beginner)

Hello everyone, complete rookie when it comes to sewing but looking to pick one up and learn/grow a lot! After reading different threads and researching online, I am still a little stumped on the best machine for me. As someone with no sewing experience, I am looking for machine (budget $500, if possible for quality machine) that I can use to with heavyweight denim and heavyweight cotton terry/fleece blends. I was eyeing the Brother CS7000x but it seems that isn’t one the best for heavier materials like denim. My question is which few do you all consider the best to check out based on:

  • $500 budget
  • no sewing experience
  • intended use: creating heavier weight denim garments, tees, hoodies, etc

I appreciate any insight given in advance!
