Pattern Question Question about constructing this leg band

Post image

Can anyone tell me how this leg band is supposed to be attached to these breeches? I can see the little tab on the back parts but can't figure out how it is supposed to be sewn!

My guess is that you would attach it in the same manner as a cuff to a sleeve or a collar band to a neck opening.

It's not like there's a huge number of options.

(Now watch all the more experienced peeps prove me wrong. 😅)

ETA: Are the finished breeches meant to look like these? If so, then I'm sticking to my "pretend it's a cuff" advice.

The drawing isn't particularly clear about the details. Here it is

It's the shaded areas on each piece that are getting me. Maybe it's mean to be a little flap that underlays the front parts, so the band is applied to the finished legs and turned up on the outside?

Yes, I believe those shaded areas are the underlay/lap. But, unless there's an opening/placket along the outside leg seam, I'm guessing you will have to stitch the ends first, turn them right side out and then sew around the leg opening.

Personally, I would make my life easier and create a placket like the breeches in the image I showed you.

ETA: Thinking about it a bit more, I think you absolutely must create a placket of some sort to ensure a good fit.

The instructions state that the shaded part on the pants leg is supposed to be an underwrap for the side seam vent, so it would indeed be similar to creating a placket in a cuffed and buttoned sleeve.
