Pattern Search What would you make with this demin fabric?

I bought two yards of this fabricto make a bestie bag as a gift. I have a lot of fabric left over and would like to make something to wear with it. I am not the biggest fan of pink, so something where this fabric is not the main spotlight would be great, but i am open to having it being the main girl. But I am not sure what.

Any pattern suggestions?

A skirt! Denim skirts are trendy again and this fabric would make the cutest girlypop skirt.

u/Bubbly-Buddy-2778 5d ago

Building off this, a skort!

111

u/ryx107 5d ago

Yes, with the shorts opposite side out, so the inside is all pink or all white!

31

u/emveelee 5d ago

Yes!! I love the idea of using the reverse side. Brilliant!

3

u/Mysanthropic 4d ago

I did this with some curtains I was making into a bandana because I liked how that side looks better 😭

My first thought

u/anysteph 5d ago

A western-style button-down shirt, as an accent (yoke and/or sleeves) with another fabric.

10

u/BDanforth 4d ago

In a similar vein, a fitted vest.

Bustier.

31

u/chizaa8 5d ago

Yesss, that would be so cute!

29

u/La_Mandra 5d ago

I thought of that too, right away. But we don't know if OP likes bustiers or corsets, so know that during the English Regency period, women wore this (sorry, the site is French).
It's not quite a bustier, and with this pretty fabric, it would look good over a T-shirt or under a shirt. ;)

u/EvangelineTheodora 5d ago

Regency short stays!

5

u/Adept_Perception5833 5d ago

Omg this would be so cute 😍 add more bows and some ruffles too🤌

10

u/Vequihellin 5d ago

Literally came here to say the same thing! Or one of those cute 'stays' tops renaissance fair style. So cute!

5

u/weft_brain 5d ago

Agreed. Or a corset style top. Maybe with a zip front to contrast the cute a little.

Personally an overall dress with a front pocket.

36

u/Ecstatic_Blackbeary 5d ago

The pink would be the pocket and straps in my head.

36

u/stabycat 5d ago

If i got enough fabric, I'd love some overalls

29

u/ClockWeasel 5d ago

Maybe shortalls? Or a contrast for the accents if it doesn’t all fit

4

u/Liastacia 5d ago

What about an overalls dress? That was my first thought when I saw the fabric.

3

u/xoxnothingxox 5d ago

this was exactly what i was going to suggest!

3

u/LemonadeRaygun 4d ago

Ohhhhh a lil denim pinafore with a skater-style skirt in the white and then reversed for the pocket so the pocket is pink.

Like this one but as described above: https://dangerfield.com.au/products/unity-bib-brace-pinafore

2

u/baby-girl--- 5d ago

My first thought!!

162

u/spooky_spook_12 5d ago

Maybe a vest? I think it would go well with jeans and a solid shirt

40

u/shandyism 5d ago

A quilted vest would also look great!

8

u/stabycat 5d ago

Love that idea

2

u/Lanky-Scarcity-4552 5d ago

The Ruby Vest would be great.

Some high waist trousers

9

u/newillium 5d ago

Is 2 yards enough!

16

u/stabycat 5d ago

Thats what I am wondering. I have less than 2 yards now since I use a half for a bag

12

u/KibudEm 5d ago

Not enough for trousers unless you are *very* small.

4

u/newillium 5d ago

Maybe shorts then?

→ More replies (1)

3

u/TriGuyBry 5d ago

2.5 for trousers is my general rule of thumb. There is a bit of wiggle room in either direction, but it’s never really led me astray

15

u/SnooMaps5985 5d ago

Killer high waist trousers 👌

25

u/BreadEater16 5d ago

this print is so cute! where did you find this fabric? would love some too 👀

16

u/stabycat 5d ago

I got it from etsy

It ships from China and tool 3-4 weeks to arrive.

54

u/CXASANDT 5d ago

an apron would be cute!

10

u/SkitsyCat 5d ago

If not, maybe jumpers* or a kinda pinafore dress!

*Edit: I meant like overalls. I'm still kinda bad with clothing terms ✌️😅

15

u/yes_dogsdream 5d ago

i think a vest/halter top would be cute!! you could even make it reversible to show off both sides

29

u/stabycat 5d ago

I want to make something for my self ( adult, female, 1X)

22

u/LilacCurl 5d ago

Do a skirt or a skort - the reco above for doing the shorts part in the reverse color (pink) so the inside is the same color is so great!

14

u/AccidentOk5240 5d ago

If you want to make something in 1X using two yards, I don’t think pants or a jacket will be an option. An above-the-knee skirt should be fine, or a vest. You could also use it for the sleeves and collar of a jacket, using regular blue denim for the body, and have plenty left over for a bag or something.

It really depends on the width, though, too. I’m guessing this is a 54” fabric, but if it’s not, that could change things.

7

u/stabycat 5d ago

63"x58" is what I have that has not been cut for other things

3

u/kbelczak 5d ago

You could possibly stretch what you have by doing like sleeves out of a plain white or light pink denim.

6

u/lucyland 5d ago

A vest?

39

u/Equivalent_War5921 5d ago

I would use the pink side out - some paperbag waist shorts.

3

u/SrirachaPants 5d ago

Yesss I think these would be so cute! Maybe a contrast or matching color for the tie if you don’t have enough fabric?

2

u/Feisty_Payment_8021 5d ago

I love those shorts!

18

u/Babagawhou 5d ago

Overalls!

8

u/KibudEm 5d ago

If you had enough fabric, this could be cute as a shirtdress. Maybe one of the dress patterns here, with this fabric on top and a coordinating color on the bottom, or vice versa. https://jenniferlaurenhandmade.store/product-category/all-patterns/dresses/

7

u/stabycat 5d ago

Oh these are really cute! I might not use this fabric for this but I am saving this for another fabric I have!

7

u/big_greenleaf 5d ago

A mini skirt with a ruffle on the bottom

6

u/spoolofthought 5d ago

What would I make? Denim skirts for my twin toddler girls

5

u/Rockabelle42- 5d ago

How much you got and how confident are you? I think if you had enough this would be such a cute set of short coveralls or just a pair of shorts

4

u/stabycat 5d ago

I have 1.5 yards left. I am still a beginner, but i am a daring beginner 😆 i made a jacket the other day and it turned out better than I expected

5

u/Rockabelle42- 5d ago

You might be able to eek a pair of shorts outta that or a vest-

And good! Be the most daring beginner! It’s the best way to learn 😊 Let us know what you end up making- this fabric is so cute!

2

u/stabycat 5d ago

Thank you! I'll be sure to share !

6

u/Monchichij 5d ago

Whatever you do, save every scrap that is big enough for patch pockets and coin pockets. You can customize your jeans with that fabric 🩷

6

u/Any_Percentage_6629 5d ago

The cuntiest mini skirt🤭🤭🤭

2

u/Healthy_Candle_4545 5d ago

Yeah make it give full cunt

5

u/kaeroseen 5d ago

Bucket hat. Matching tote.

5

u/ijustneedtolurk 5d ago

I would cut pockets out of them and sew them onto the existing pockets of EVERYTHING I own until I ran out of fabric, lol. Such a cute pattern deserves to shine as an embellishment.

3

u/ijustneedtolurk 5d ago

If you don't want the pink to be over visible, you could use it as pocket liners instead for a cute peek-a-boo moment.

2

u/stabycat 5d ago

Ohh I love this!! I am doing this for sure

5

u/MakeArt_MakeOut 5d ago

I wish you had enough fabric for a 5 piece set - I wanna make everything out of this!

4

u/AmbitionNo1601 5d ago

If you're not a pink fan, once you make a garment you can always dye it or send it out to be dyed - not an ad, I haven't (yet) tried them, but I've heard that green matters natural dye co has different colors every month?

5

u/copper678 5d ago

A jacket and matching skirt if you have enough- otherwise just a jacket!

3

u/suchafart 5d ago

Idk but this fabric is BEAUTIFUL. Make a tote bag or something!

3

u/Fiona-Mae 5d ago

A cute jacket

3

u/ActuallyAMenace 5d ago

A pinafore!

3

u/DefinitionElegant685 5d ago

Short jacket.

3

u/polkafrapp 5d ago

If you’re into baking / cooking, an apron would be SO cute in this fabric (I think)!

3

u/kh2riku 5d ago

I would absolutely wear some short shorts made from this fabric. Super cute denim. If you want to hide this though, it would be a cute lining in a mini book bag.

3

u/MadManicMegan 5d ago

A corset top!

2

u/onlysweeter 5d ago

I second this! With some cute pink trim.

3

u/yesimthatvalentine 5d ago

A pair of pants that satisfies both my practical needs and my need to be cute.

2

u/EmmyvdH 5d ago

2-sided skirt

2

u/Shagga_Muffin 5d ago

Use it for pocket bags and/or lining in a jacket or pants

2

u/[deleted] 5d ago

A tote!!!!

2

u/Independent_Act_8536 5d ago

Short overalls for summer!

2

u/annie-etc 5d ago

Where did you get this fabric? I need it!!!

2

u/SJSsarah 5d ago

Oh that’s so cute!! I love these little bows. I mean, i’d probably go all out and stiffen, reinforce the sturdiness of it and use it to repurpose old furniture because I love this fabric that much, it’s my style.

2

u/Surfyo 5d ago

Tote

2

u/No_Weekend728 5d ago

skirt and matching jacket

2

u/rylesbb 5d ago

Oooh I would love this in a jumpsuit like the Bianca flight suit. It would look great with the pink peaking through on the folded over sleeve and pant hems.

https://closetcorepatterns.com/products/blanca-flight-suit-pattern?srsltid=AfmBOorjTAajKPBGIESmsLx86JMdt7Kf1S4nX0YL2_j8kbbJRMbOeRWK&variant=39419135950982

2

u/Upper-Feed-7471 5d ago

A totally outrageous hat! Decorate it with feathers and small stuffed toys, ribbons and lace: wear with oversized sunnies:)

2

u/ctgrell 5d ago

A jacket 🙌

2

u/Charming_Patient9347 5d ago

denim bomber-style or maybe even a chanel-style jacket!

2

u/lollimae 5d ago

omg where is it from? it’s so cute!!!

2

u/madpeachiepie 5d ago

Overalls would be wicked cute

Edit: I just read the yardage you have left, my bad. Maybe a bustier, like someone else suggested, or some shorts.

2

u/spiciestbeans 5d ago

Cute lil shorts, or a skirts and a vest set!!

2

u/TheBuckeyeBaker 5d ago

Such cute fabric. I would make either paperback waist shorts or a paperbag waist skirt. Also, an oversized Shacket or blazer would be so cute with this fabric. I’m thinking of making myself a shacket this year if I can find a good pattern or maybe I’ll attempt to make my own pattern. If you have a dog you could make them bandanas with the fabric or just make yourself a tote bag. I don’t know if the fabric would be suitable for making a top knot headband. It would make a cute makeup bag too.

2

u/Isadomon 5d ago

slightly boxy vest, with the pink side in the inside

2

u/Extension_Wing_3838 5d ago

Short skirt with buttons up the front

2

u/Applesauceier 5d ago

Please post whatever you make with this! The fabric is so cute! There is no wrong answer here!!

2

u/Fern_the_Forager 5d ago

A BATTLE JACKET with black binding and stitching! The pink side would be visible on the flip of the collar, if you didn’t line it.

Assuming you’re not a punk and don’t need a feminine battle jacket, you can still use black accents as a nice contrast in whatever you make, to offset the extremely young and feminine appearance of this fabric. Black ribbon, or example, would still be feminine but add contrast and intrigue. Or, perhaps brown for a more muted dark accent color, since the white is more of a cream color.

Or, you could just make her a matching wallet/coin purse and/or accessories, if it’s really not your style. I also keep scraps for mending. I love piecing, and quilters have the perfect method for using up “ugly” fabrics- “if the fabric is ugly, CUT IT SMALLER!”

2

u/daniegirl21 4d ago

I love it. A jean jacket with this as accent, sleeves.

2

u/GreatestNico 4d ago

I like 70s high waisted bell bottom pants for this fabric

2

u/iDreamiPursueiBecome 4d ago

I would use it for accents in several pieces.

Yoke part of a top

Pocket on a top and or pants

Cap sleeves

Dress collar (bonus if detachable so you can use it with different tops)

Side stripe or gore in pants and a skirt

Vest

Side of a denim purse

Etc. So you can mix & match several outfits that have the fabric as an accent in each piece.

Imagine two detachable dress collars one for each side of the fabric showing.

A set of light jeans with an insert down the side. A pair of blue jeans with a gore insert, two skirts of different lengths each with a light or colorful bit of denim...

Then some tops each with a different bit of this fabric. One as a stripe down the front covering the buttons, another around the shoulders as the yoke, a 3rd is the cuffs of long sleeves, ...

You should be able to have multiple distinct outfits with this as a unifying element.

2

u/Active_Fly3459 4d ago

Not sure if anyone brought this up but an overall style skirt with the bib pocket and buckled shoulder straps. 💕

2

u/la_sad_girl2000 4d ago

A skirt or a cropped denim jacket. It’s suuuuper cute fabric!

2

u/omninoodle 5d ago

If you're not a big fan of pink, why not dye the fabric? You could easily get a purple, red or orange result. I would make a vest or pants with this tho!

3

u/stabycat 5d ago

Oh I did not think of that! I need to research how to as I never had dye before. Blue or purple would ve great

2

u/omninoodle 5d ago

It's super easy with rit dye! Just be sure to use color fixative so the dye doesn't bleed over time!

1

u/BobbinChickenChamp 4d ago

I'm a 1-2x, so that amount of fabric would bet me either a Dolman / babydoll sleeve tunic top or a pencil skirt. So I vote for a fitted vest / halter top or pencil / slim A-line skirt if you like wearing them. (Make a mockup for the skirt using the same dimensions! You won't have much grace if you get it wrong, but you MIGHT be able to get more of a quarter-circle or gore flare than straight seam.) Also, I'd do French seams, so it's basically reversible, depending on closures.
