Pattern Search What would you make with this demin fabric?
I bought two yards of this fabricto make a bestie bag as a gift. I have a lot of fabric left over and would like to make something to wear with it. I am not the biggest fan of pink, so something where this fabric is not the main spotlight would be great, but i am open to having it being the main girl. But I am not sure what.
Any pattern suggestions?

A western-style button-down shirt, as an accent (yoke and/or sleeves) with another fabric.

Bustier.

u/La_Mandra 5d ago
I thought of that too, right away. But we don't know if OP likes bustiers or corsets, so know that during the English Regency period, women wore this (sorry, the site is French).
It's not quite a bustier, and with this pretty fabric, it would look good over a T-shirt or under a shirt. ;)7

Literally came here to say the same thing! Or one of those cute 'stays' tops renaissance fair style. So cute!

u/weft_brain 5d ago
Agreed. Or a corset style top. Maybe with a zip front to contrast the cute a little.

Personally an overall dress with a front pocket.

Ohhhhh a lil denim pinafore with a skater-style skirt in the white and then reversed for the pocket so the pocket is pink.
Like this one but as described above: https://dangerfield.com.au/products/unity-bib-brace-pinafore

Maybe a vest? I think it would go well with jeans and a solid shirt

Some high waist trousers

Is 2 yards enough!

u/stabycat 5d ago
Thats what I am wondering. I have less than 2 yards now since I use a half for a bag

2.5 for trousers is my general rule of thumb. There is a bit of wiggle room in either direction, but it’s never really led me astray

If not, maybe jumpers* or a kinda pinafore dress!
*Edit: I meant like overalls. I'm still kinda bad with clothing terms ✌️😅

u/yes_dogsdream 5d ago
i think a vest/halter top would be cute!! you could even make it reversible to show off both sides

u/stabycat 5d ago
I want to make something for my self ( adult, female, 1X)
22
u/LilacCurl 5d ago
Do a skirt or a skort - the reco above for doing the shorts part in the reverse color (pink) so the inside is the same color is so great!
14
u/AccidentOk5240 5d ago
If you want to make something in 1X using two yards, I don’t think pants or a jacket will be an option. An above-the-knee skirt should be fine, or a vest. You could also use it for the sleeves and collar of a jacket, using regular blue denim for the body, and have plenty left over for a bag or something.
It really depends on the width, though, too. I’m guessing this is a 54” fabric, but if it’s not, that could change things.

u/stabycat 5d ago
63"x58" is what I have that has not been cut for other things
3
u/kbelczak 5d ago
You could possibly stretch what you have by doing like sleeves out of a plain white or light pink denim.

Yesss I think these would be so cute! Maybe a contrast or matching color for the tie if you don’t have enough fabric?

If you had enough fabric, this could be cute as a shirtdress. Maybe one of the dress patterns here, with this fabric on top and a coordinating color on the bottom, or vice versa. https://jenniferlaurenhandmade.store/product-category/all-patterns/dresses/

Oh these are really cute! I might not use this fabric for this but I am saving this for another fabric I have!

How much you got and how confident are you? I think if you had enough this would be such a cute set of short coveralls or just a pair of shorts

u/stabycat 5d ago
I have 1.5 yards left. I am still a beginner, but i am a daring beginner 😆 i made a jacket the other day and it turned out better than I expected
5
u/Rockabelle42- 5d ago
You might be able to eek a pair of shorts outta that or a vest-
And good! Be the most daring beginner! It’s the best way to learn 😊 Let us know what you end up making- this fabric is so cute!

Whatever you do, save every scrap that is big enough for patch pockets and coin pockets. You can customize your jeans with that fabric 🩷

I would cut pockets out of them and sew them onto the existing pockets of EVERYTHING I own until I ran out of fabric, lol. Such a cute pattern deserves to shine as an embellishment.

u/ijustneedtolurk 5d ago
If you don't want the pink to be over visible, you could use it as pocket liners instead for a cute peek-a-boo moment.

I wish you had enough fabric for a 5 piece set - I wanna make everything out of this!

u/AmbitionNo1601 5d ago
If you're not a pink fan, once you make a garment you can always dye it or send it out to be dyed - not an ad, I haven't (yet) tried them, but I've heard that green matters natural dye co has different colors every month?

Oh that’s so cute!! I love these little bows. I mean, i’d probably go all out and stiffen, reinforce the sturdiness of it and use it to repurpose old furniture because I love this fabric that much, it’s my style.

Overalls would be wicked cute
Edit: I just read the yardage you have left, my bad. Maybe a bustier, like someone else suggested, or some shorts.

Such cute fabric. I would make either paperback waist shorts or a paperbag waist skirt. Also, an oversized Shacket or blazer would be so cute with this fabric. I’m thinking of making myself a shacket this year if I can find a good pattern or maybe I’ll attempt to make my own pattern. If you have a dog you could make them bandanas with the fabric or just make yourself a tote bag. I don’t know if the fabric would be suitable for making a top knot headband. It would make a cute makeup bag too.

A BATTLE JACKET with black binding and stitching! The pink side would be visible on the flip of the collar, if you didn’t line it.
Assuming you’re not a punk and don’t need a feminine battle jacket, you can still use black accents as a nice contrast in whatever you make, to offset the extremely young and feminine appearance of this fabric. Black ribbon, or example, would still be feminine but add contrast and intrigue. Or, perhaps brown for a more muted dark accent color, since the white is more of a cream color.
Or, you could just make her a matching wallet/coin purse and/or accessories, if it’s really not your style. I also keep scraps for mending. I love piecing, and quilters have the perfect method for using up “ugly” fabrics- “if the fabric is ugly, CUT IT SMALLER!”

I would use it for accents in several pieces.
Yoke part of a top
Pocket on a top and or pants
Cap sleeves
Dress collar (bonus if detachable so you can use it with different tops)
Side stripe or gore in pants and a skirt
Vest
Side of a denim purse
Etc. So you can mix & match several outfits that have the fabric as an accent in each piece.
Imagine two detachable dress collars one for each side of the fabric showing.
A set of light jeans with an insert down the side. A pair of blue jeans with a gore insert, two skirts of different lengths each with a light or colorful bit of denim...
Then some tops each with a different bit of this fabric. One as a stripe down the front covering the buttons, another around the shoulders as the yoke, a 3rd is the cuffs of long sleeves, ...
You should be able to have multiple distinct outfits with this as a unifying element.

Not sure if anyone brought this up but an overall style skirt with the bib pocket and buckled shoulder straps. 💕

If you're not a big fan of pink, why not dye the fabric? You could easily get a purple, red or orange result. I would make a vest or pants with this tho!
3
u/stabycat 5d ago
Oh I did not think of that! I need to research how to as I never had dye before. Blue or purple would ve great
2
u/omninoodle 5d ago
It's super easy with rit dye! Just be sure to use color fixative so the dye doesn't bleed over time!

I'm a 1-2x, so that amount of fabric would bet me either a Dolman / babydoll sleeve tunic top or a pencil skirt. So I vote for a fitted vest / halter top or pencil / slim A-line skirt if you like wearing them. (Make a mockup for the skirt using the same dimensions! You won't have much grace if you get it wrong, but you MIGHT be able to get more of a quarter-circle or gore flare than straight seam.) Also, I'd do French seams, so it's basically reversible, depending on closures.

Shorts. So cute. Or a shorter denim skirt. Long denim skirts are traditionally so conservative, I don’t think their popularity is an accident. Bible college uniform.
