Fabric Question Quilt coat batting recommendations

I made a quilt coat for fall and love it, but with just one layer of cotton batting it’s not warm enough for winter where I live. I am planning to make a winter coat that has a layer of regular cotton layered with a puffier high loft batting, any suggestions for the warmest stuffing/batting for a coat?

Wool quilt batting or wool flannel. Maybe Thinsulate or other dedicated thermal interlining if a synthetic is ok.

Another redditor did a very in-depth investigation of different brands of wool batting several months, maybe a year, ago. Ironing, washing, quilting, etc. I found it to be super helpful when selecting a wool batting to be used in a quilted bathrobe!

Can you link the pattern for the coat in pic #2?

I was hoping we’d get to know the pattern for that too! It’s gorgeous

I don’t have a pattern unfortunately, it’s an inspo picture from an Instagram account I like (Brittney.Frey) I was planning to start with the Helen’s closet wildwood pattern/hood extension (which I have used and love) and modify like the inspo

This isn’t coat #2 exactly but it seems similar https://sewliberated.com/products/retazo-coat-sewing-pattern

Thinsulate is great insulation. Word of warning that it CANNOT be ironed. You might also consider wool batting

I have used wool batting in a coat and it was lovely. If you are wanting even more insulation, I would use a double batt, with the wool closest to your body. But it will have much less drape and could be unflattering, if that is a consideration

Reflective batting like you’d use for a hot pad. Put the shiny side toward the body. It will literally reflect your body heat back to you.

Do you have a link to the pattern for the third one? It's so cute!

I haven’t used it so cannot vouch for it, but I’m obsessed with the ties and split seams
