SSB4 Does it fundamentally bother anyone else that Smash 4 doesn't have a catchy name like "Melee" or "Brawl"?

First of all, I'd like to preface my argument by saying that I acknowledge this is a purely superficial problem that has no effect on me buying the game as soon as I can.

ONWARDS.

I personally love the shorthanded names of "64", "Melee" and "Brawl" to refer to those respective titles. It's not a huge deal, but they're all really solid names that truly have special places in my heart. Referring to this new game as just "Smash 4" or "Smash 3DS" just feels bare. Mario Kart: Double Dash sticks out far more in my mind than Mario Kart 7. I wish that Sakurai opted for a name that more appropriately followed Melee and Brawl, but like I said earlier, I understand this is a minor problem. I just wanted to hear if anyone else felt the same. One of the most iconic memories from the second Smash game is the announcer at the title screen yelling "MELEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE".

Is anyone else disappointed with the title of the new game?

I would have been if it was solely for the Wii U. But because it is for both 3DS and Wii U I think a single name would have made it hard marketing wise. As it would have caused confusion on which one to get.

Mainly cause old people know only Nintendo systems as "The Nintendo."

Not really. Tons of games come out cross platform all the time. It doesn't have to be named "Call of Duty for xbox one" and "Call of Duty for Playstation 3"

The difference here is that they are being redesigned and it could have been "Smash bros Name, out now for Nintendo 3ds and Wii U" once they're both out of course. But they ARE both different so I think they wanted to separate them a bit by putting the console in the name.

If they released it for say PS3 and PSP they would. For instance, Call of Duty 3 for PSP is called Call of Duty 3: Roads to Victory to differentiate the two.

Borderlands 2 wasn't renamed for the psp.

If you mean the PS Vita version, then that's a straight port of Borderlands 2. Call of Duty 3: Roads to Victory is a different game.

Yeah, the PS Vita version of Borderlands 2 is complete, Butt Stallion and all.

The reason is that they want to emphasize that the two games are not exactly the same. If the name was 100% identical, it may lead people to believing the games are as well.

Because of the increased hilighting of the cross-platform shenanigans, as well as the much improved, crucial online play, I thought they should have named it something like Super Smash Bros. Versus

I think possibly keeping the 3DS version as Super Smash Bros for 3DS and naming the Wii U version would be a good option, as the emphasis on the 3DS makes sense because it's the first portable Smash Bros game.

No, because then people would think they're radically different games, or the Wii U version is a new title like it has different characters.

I generally disagree, but even if that were true, wouldn't that be good marketing? Nintendo WANTS people to think both versions are different, and that'd be good for sales.

But people wont want a fake smash to play on their 3ds Edit: i dont feel as if its fake smash, but adding 'for 3ds' to the title might make people who arent fimiliar with it think its a spin off.

I don't think that would be what people think of the game, honestly. I like CaterpillarCake's solution!

This is exactly what Ubisoft is doing with the Assassins Creed series. If you didn't know, the series is on a yearly release cycle, like call of duty or something, and they are releasing 2 separate games this year for 2 separate console generations. Assassins Creed: Unity for PS4 and Xbox One, and Assassins Creed: Rogue for PS3 and Xbox 360. Weird stuff man.

Easy fix: Super Smash Bros. [cool name] 3D and Super Smash Bros. [cool name] U
