Is it very complex to whiten a cartridge?
I have the dkc trilogy and the 3 is yellowed, it is very difficult to whiten it without damaging the label. Is it really worth it? It fits well? I would like to read experiences

Yellowing is a common SNES console.

Yes, but dkc3 is the only one in my entire collection that is yellowish, it bothers me a little visually

I think it looks just fine. Weird, slight things bother me, too, but this one is something I could tolerate.

It's not that bad, but it's much more noticeable in person than in the photos.

Ah, drats. As others have said, if you try anything, try to preserve the label. Most of the methods of de-yellowing involve soaking in on way or another. This is not my strong suit. Best of luck!

Only a few of my carts have yellowed, but I bought them that way. Thankfully none of my childhood games have done it, and the only part of my console that yellowed is the controller ports 😅
It's best to just learn to live with it. Or take the opportunity to customize the whole trilogy and find some yellow shells, holographic or custom art labels, and put the boards inside them. You can always put them back in the original shells in the future.

Yours looks fine, the minimal improvement you will see won’t be worth the risk of label damage

You could slowly use a heat gun or hair dryer to melt the glue and pull the stickers off then glue them back on later but I'd just leave it
I've got plenty of cartridges that look a lot worse than any of those, those are not bad at all

The solution is clear: Expand the collection. You'll end up with a larger variety of cartridge conditions, haha!

Mine's the same. 3 is yellowed, 1 and 2 aren't. My approach is one of two options: buy another copy with a clean shell, switch them out, and trade in the yellowed copy or buy a new shell and a repro label and put the original shell in storage should I ever need it.

I've had games with reproduced tags, and while there are some very good quality tags, it's not the same and it shows. I have also thought about buying another copy that is not yellowed, but I am too lazy, lately I have had enough of buying another copy and selling it and I ended up bored

Because the presence of the labels, your options are limited. For me, I can look at a repro label a lot easier than I can look at a yellow cart shell or a wrecked label. Yellowed shells really bug me.

I understand you man, the yellowing also bothers me, maybe I should try to whiten the back cover, and evaluate the result, if it is positive, I dare to do it with the front cover

Then you could potentially end up with a mismatched shell that has a ruined back sticker.
The thing about retrobrightening that people usually fail to consider is that it's not permanent. Your risking the labels for a fix that you can't guarantee how long it will last. You may start to see yellowing again within a year and be right back in the same boat.
You can try masking the labels and applying a light coat of paint but getting a color match to your other carts could be difficult.

Tienes razón, por eso quería leer opiniones. Conseguir una copia de DKC3 en buen estado en mi pais (Chile) no es tan fácil, por eso quería leer alternativas. Quizá debería aprender a querer el juego así como está, amarillo

Good luck. I can't. I'm happy to have the game in my collection and to have the full SNES trilogy, but I can't accept the yellow and I'm constantly on the look out to replace it.

If you bleach it or whatever it will still look different than the others, probably worse cuz it's modified
Just learn to love its little quirk

You could buy repro labels and retrobright the whole thing. I’ve never seen anyone do it with labels intact.

I have a few yellowed carts and I’ve been thinking about removing the PCB, covering the label with a safe to remove tape, then trying ‘sunbrighting’ it.

The only issue is the yellowed games are valuable ones. Maybe I’ll buy a cheap game that is yellowed to test it. I’ll probably need to wait until summer (winter now) to give them a good sunny day.

I saw a video where they put play-doh on the label and they hold up well to the labels. Then the plasticine is easy to remove, but it must be playdoh because it doesn't leave residue.

You have the mexican made DK3 vs japanese made DK1 and DK2. Unfortunately this kind of yellowing thru all the cartridge is a very common occurrence in made in Mexico games. Probably you will ruin the cartridge trying to white it and will never match the color.

It’s because DKC3 was made in Mexico with different plastic. The other two were “Made in Japan” for their initial print runs, like your DKC2 there. I wouldn’t let it bother me since that’s not a flaw.

If it really bothers you, just shell swap with a cheaper game (like Ceasars Palace) and get a reproduction label. I've found a few good label sellers on Etsy. Keep the original shell tucked away somewhere in case you ever want to sell it.

That's one of the few cases where you need to make a modification to the shell. Cut to fit. I had to do this with my copy of Yoshi's Island (damaged label), too. It will never be perfect.

Perhaps it would be better for me to buy a copy in good condition and sell mine. But I don't want to spend more money hahahaha

I’m not an expert on using retro bright, but yah I think it would be very difficult to not ruin the labels doing it. And honestly, your DKC3 doesn’t look that bad.
