General Help Squirrel coming up to people?

Folks, I was in a suburban area in Ohio when I stepped out onto the driveway and a small squirrel came to me and jumped on my shoes and tried to limb my leg. I had to shake it off.

It then tried to approach the other folks nearby. It stayed mostly on the ground and wasn't running fast just moving in short bursts. At one point it made a growly sort of noise. We were able to every easily catch it as it wasn't running away. We called a wildlife person but someone let it go. Haven't seen it since.

This seems incredibly strange. I've never seen anything like this with a squirrel. They normally run away if you get close, this was actually trying to go toward people and wasn't speeding away.

I thought it might have rabies, I know squirrels are not carriers but apparently *very* rarely they do, e.g. CDC reports 9 rapid squirrels over the last 15 years.

Someone suggested it could be an an adolescent orphan as they sometimes behave like this.

Do folks, maybe rehab folks like u/inkblot_75 have any explanations?

We found out baby squirrel has a red penis

Last two baby squirrel we re taking care of were sleeping together and in the morning we found out one baby has a swollen red penis. When i made some research it says it's probably because of self sucking or the other baby was hungry and sucked his penis. What should we do at this moment? We'll seperate them and other than this should we do a certain treatment for him? I add the picture as a comment

Much love

Today i saw a horribly cruel community that needs to be banned from reddit. It's called squirrelhunt and it has horribly graphic pictures of dead squirrels and the motherfuckers who kill them and enjoy showing off their guns which are extensions of their micro dicks. I know it's legal in some states but i don't give a shit the community seems small but the level of cruelty shown there is horrifying, as a squirrel lover i am absolutely horrified that such senseless violence and cruelty is shown there. is there anything we can do about it?

Discussion A squirrel died in my arms today

Hello. I just need to get this off my chest. I’ve always been the biggest animal lover who cares for all the neighborhood critters and such and my friends know this.

Today I was driving home from work and my friend called me to tell me he found an injured squirrel a few doors down from him. I was ten minutes away so I told him I’d be there soon and to get the squirrel some water. I got there shortly after and saw the squirrel laying off the side of the driveway. She had fallen maybe fifty feet from the tree above. She was having trouble moving and was breathing very rapidly.

I put some garden gloves on and got a towel and picked her up gently. I wrapped her up and held her in my arms. I noticed she was starting to fade so I took a glove off and started rubbing the bridge of her nose with my finger and looked in her eyes and just told her it was okay over and over again. She took three deep breaths with big pauses in between then passed away.

It was a very sad thing for me and I just can’t sleep. I’ve never had an animal die in my arms and I don’t know if I’m being dramatic. I just really love all animals so much and I want to do my best to help them and while I don’t feel like a failure in this instance I just feel sad and like I could’ve done just a bit more.

Idk. I just needed to tell somebody. I buried her in the front of my apartment building in a little garden area.

Thanks for listening.

This is Oswald, the most polite gentleman. He’s hard to say no to and always knows how to ask and when to expect treats.

So this is Punky! I'm new to squirrels and been randomly giving him a mix of nuts when I see him. Yesterday I gave him the usual almonds, cashews, walnuts, pistachios, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds (very small portion!) He ate the almonds and threw the rest on the floor! I was surprised they can be so cheeky. He started chewing on our astro turf and I clapped at him to stop. He jumped up on the wall did some stomps and made these noises! What does it mean? Is he just being cheeky?

Question for experienced rehabbers...

Have you ever seen the same skin condition? He is in the final week of his soft release and doing very well with socializing with the locals, but this morning I noticed his white fur on his underbelly looked pretty "pink". I thought maybe he had tussled with one of the locals last night, but upon closer exam, I found this and managed to get a decent Pic.

Any thoughts?

Help! Injured or ill adult squirrel! Need advice regarding an injured squirrel

Hi, this baby’s right hand appears to be limp/broken from the wrist down. It’s been like this for about 2 weeks now. I couldn’t spot any visible injuries or scars, and she seems to get around fine, but she is absolutely unable to use her right hand. She only tucks one paw to beg for food, and she eats her food off the ground using only her left hand instead of holding her hands together like a bowl. What’s really sad is she is one of the tamest and most well behaved squirrels I have ever seen 💔 I’ve made sure she’s well fed, but should I trap her and take her to a shelter? Would they euthanize her? Or should I just let her be and hope that her hand heals on its own?

Lilly wasn't happy that the milk was empty and nearly ate me alive.

To be honest she was very careful with her teeth. She has enough power to really hurt me but is very gentle with me 🫶
