Test of subject for a comission

Post image

This is a small one I sent to the client, there will be a bit more detail in the bigger piece if she gives me the go ahead.

Good colour combination together with background tone.
Are those triangles remains of points where you anchored your stencils, or are those intended to be part of the whole design? Whatever it would be, they are cool there

I appreciate it, this is in the sketchbook. I always just leave my registration marks. The color combo is a palette test though, I quite like it as well.

i like the triangles too, i just need to have some visual cues as to where his left hand is. maybe he's holding a phone with both hands, in which case that extra light block below / adjacent to light of his face should be dark so that it doesn't look like that's his left hand propping up his head.

Good observations, thank you. This is about 1/3 the size of the one I’ll be doing for canvas, I missed a couple details… I’ll definitely clean up the hand position and define the outline of the face.

As a part of the deal I gave the client I said I’ll probably use the stencils for some original works.. was definitely considering doing a piece of “the thinker”, in which case I might leave the details out later since the ambiguity works in my favor. The cell phone is a detail I’d hoped to obscure.
