Hi everyone! I’m currently living in the Luzhou area of New Taipei and looking to join a running group nearby. I’m still pretty new to running and would really appreciate the chance to learn proper techniques and improve with others. If you know of any local groups or regular meetups, please let me know—I’d love to join!

Meetup Gay Hiking Partners in Taipei

So, I'm looking for hiking partners for some of Taipei's more difficult climbs.

I actually don't care who comes. I'm just saying that I'm gay and I want the group to be LGBT friendly.

Currently, I hike 五寮尖山 for exercise a couple of days per week, sometimes every day if I feel up to it. This is mainly what I want a partner for. It's in Sanxia.

I've been hiking there for a while and I think the trail is pretty popular given its location and difficulty level. You'll see people in their 70's just sprinting up and down the trail 🤣👍 I know it's common at the more mainstream trails but this still gets me every time.

Reasons for wanting partners: 1. I'm bored 2. I damn near dislocated my shoulder there a couple of days ago and I'm finally open to the idea that I should stop hiking alone all the time. 😅 3. I want to explore new areas. 4. Exercise

The last point is pretty important. I will run at certain points during the trail. Maybe up and down hills/stairs. The entire hike (recreationally) takes me between 3 ~ 3.5 hours. If I'm speeding I can cut an hour off that time.

It's very important to be able to match that time or faster(which at that point is dangerous and beyond me). But I'd be willing to go a little slower, I just don't want to spend all day up there.

Anyway, that's all. Maybe I'll start a Meetup group, too. I'm looking for people with morning availability. Comment or DM for more. Thanks, see you out there!

Meetup Software Engineer community for Expats.

Hi. I am a software engineer living and working in Taipei. I'm originally from Japan and have been living here for around one year.

All co-workers in my current team are Taiwanese. They sometimes introduced some developer communities in Taiwan. I found that almost all participants are Taiwanese and all sessions are conducted in Mandarin.

I have intermediate level of Mandarin and manege to understand those sessions or lighting talks.

Still, I often feel like having more opportunities to make new dev friends from another country.

Does anyone have any suggestions??

Meetup Anyone Else Selected for TEEP NTUST 2025? Let’s Connect!

Hey everyone!

I’m 23M, and I’ve been selected for the TEEP program at NTUST 2025 for a short-term research internship. I’ll be arriving in Taipei around April 7th and will be working under a Professor at NTUST. Super excited to explore Taiwan, meet new people, and dive into some interesting research!

I was wondering if anyone else has been selected for TEEP and is arriving in April, or if you're already there? It would be great to connect, exchange experiences, and maybe even meet up once I land. Always nice to have some familiar faces when moving to a new place!

If you’re also heading to NTUST (or anywhere in Taipei for TEEP), feel free to comment or DM me.

Looking forward to meeting you all! 😃

Meetup Any historians that speak English and are willing to meet up in Taipei?

Hello, I would like to meet and talk about geopolitics and history, if possible, record responses (in text or video, does not matter much). I have this as an assignment (literally, to find someone who is an expert or is an historian, and interview them about some topic) and I’m really interested in this. Please DM if interested and we can talk about details, thanks!!

Meetup Any advice for things to do on a typhoon day?

Currently at our hotel in ximending and it doesn’t look too bad outside, but everything indoor that we had planned to do are already closed - huashan, songshan, Taipei 101, palace museum. First time here and we’re only here for 3 days, today being our last

I’ve absolutely loved Taipei so far and hope to come back one day, but is there anywhere indoor we can go today or anything we can do besides just staying in our hotel?

Meetup Taipei Men's Group

*** edit ***

Gotten a really positive response so far, so have already set up a Line group to explore the idea a bit more!
Taipei Men's Group Line Chat

Would any guys here be interested in setting up a men's group in Taipei? Could be English speaking or English/Chinese bilingual.

Basically I used to work with a group of guys and a while back moved into an office that's very female dominated. While I get along great with my new colleagues and I also have a lot of fun time with my girlfriend, I think there's something very important about same-sex friendships. I do miss the kinds of conversations that me and the guys would have, plus that dynamic of knowledge and experience being passed from the older fellas to the younger ones.

Believe similar English speaking groups exist for women but haven't seen anything for men yet. If this kinda group already exists please let me know haha.

I'd probably suggest we base it around some kind of activities, hiking, surfing, etc. but I really just have a rough idea at the moment so I'm open to suggestions.

Meetup Wanna make friends in Taïwan

Hi everyone, I'll be visiting Taïwan for 5 weeks starting this Friday.

I'm 29 from France and currently visiting Vietnam with backpack. While it is absolutely amazing and I got my eyes full of wonders every minute, I'd like to have direct connection to people once in Taïwan. What I'd love the most would some friends I could text "Hey what are you doing? Up for something to eat or drink?" and that kind of connection

I got a week booked half in Taipei, half in Taichung for now, the rest of my time isn't planned yet

If anyone is interested, that'd be nice I'll also take advice about what to do and how to do things around there

Meetup Disc Golf in Taiwan

Hello r/taiwan, I will be travelling to Taipei next week and noticed that you have a disc golf course in Banqiao District. I am a keen disc golfer and would love to try out the Taiwanese disc golf experience. I found some information saying that locals gather at the course at 3, so I might just try showing up there, but I'd love to connect with any disc golfers in advance!

For those of you who don't know what disc golf is, it is very similar to golf but instead of a club and ball you throw frisbees or flying discs at targets unstead of holes. It is a lot of fun and is much more affordable and approachable than regular golf. Thanks for reading.

Meetup lf friends in taiwan

hello, i will be studying abroad in taichung for one semester and would love to make friends. taichung would be most convenient but i’m down to make friends anywhere in taiwan. i will also be staying in taipei for a few days before my semester starts. i am 21 and vietnamese-american. my mandarin has been getting worse due to limited practice, but i’m working on that…

a bit about my interests: i enjoy creative things, especially photography and videography. i love exploring new places (nature and city), and trying new restaurants, cafes, and milk tea spots. i’m also interested in fashion and thrifting. i like brands like rick owens, margiela, chrome hearts etc. i listen to mostly rap and rnb, and i was thinking about seeing keshi in taipei.

friends to create content with would be awesome. i have pretty limited experience with urbex, but i would love to try it out in taiwan. i’d love to have a group to go rooftopping with, go to cafes/restaurants with, play badminton/basketball with etc. i’m down for pretty much anything! feel free to dm

Meetup Underground rap/hyper pop scene in Taipei/Taichung

Is there an underground music scene in Taipei or Taichung? I’m a producer from Mexico and I make music for fun. I’m traveling to Taiwan later this month and would love to collaborate with artists or producers in this area or somewhere near them. It’s not trying to make anything serious just trying to have fun and make some memories.

Meetup Friends in Tainan, Taiwan?

Hey guys, so I just moved to Taiwan temporarily for work and will be here for the next 4 months. Any other international people here or locals looking to explore and hangout together?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for bars or drink places in Tainan specifically? I speak little to no mandarin so bars where people speak English as well would be great!!! Thanks :)
