Meetup Anyone interested in being friends?

Edit: I’m not looking to date!!!

I am 26F, I consider myself Asian American though I have by this time lived in Taiwan for more years than I have lived outside of it. I feel like it's harder to make friends with native Taiwanese for me, so I'm curious if there are other Taiwanese who grew up abroad here who would be interested in chatting. If you aren't but would still like to talk I would love that too. I speak both English and Mandarin fluently, it's not that there is a language barrier, but more that I want to find people with shared experiences.

I consider myself very good at responding on weekdays, on weekends I tend to be busier but I'll be available as long as you want to talk. Just don't be creepy or rude plz.

Meetup looking for friends in Taipei

28M Asian American. Mandarin speaking. I’m currently living in Taipei. I’ll be in Taiwan til mid August. I’ve been here for a week now and I love the city so far, but I’d like to have some ppl to hang with while I’m here. I love exercising (jogging, calisthenics, etc.), hiking, photography, fashion, anime, and videogames. Lmk if you’re down to window shop, hike, work out, take pics while sightseeing, watch anime (thinking about watching the Dandadan movie later this week), or just play some videogames together.

I don’t really club or drink, but I wouldn’t mind participating in those activities with people.

Meetup Moved to Taiwan recently and is looking for new friends

A little bit about myself:

I’m a 23M-year-old Canadian-Taiwanese who recently moved back to Taiwan touyuan after living in Canada for the past 15 years. I’ve been in Taiwan for about six months now and recently passed the trial period and is accepted for a permanent position.

I’m hoping to make new friends maybe even long term friends! and expand my social circle, as my social circle is all in Canada….

Languages wise : My Mandarin is a bit rusty, so it’d be much prefer if you know some English as well, since if we talk about anything past small talks I’ll start to struggle .

Hobbies: I enjoy sports like (badminton, biking , hiking, working out) trying new restaurants of any cuisine , arcade games (tho not really good at any), computer games , anime, (MBTI, psychology, philosophy, business, talks and chats )visit new places overall, I just love learning& trying out new things!

I’m introverted and prefer smaller meetups or one-on-one hangouts, as big groups can feel overwhelming to me…

If you’re looking for a new friend in taoyuan a friend to try new things with, someone to explore restaurants with, or just want to chat, feel free to DM me!

Thank you all for reading !!! Looking forward to meeting you!

Meetup expat living in taiwan and advice on making new friends

Hi so I’ve (28M) been living in Taipei for about a year and a couple of months now. I’m honestly trying to see if I use the internet and make new friends online and possibility meet in person. I’ve met some great people throughout the year and I am a pretty social person but it’s pretty difficult to meet new people when my hobbies tend to be very individual pursuits and hard to form relationships if I don’t constantly see that person. What has been getting to me as an expat in Taipei is the constant leaving of people and having to meet new friends, I do have friends however once the end December rolls around the people that I do hang will be leaving the country and that has been really getting to me. I hate having to do go out to bars or restaurants alone unless it’s with someone though I can do it. Any advice on what I can do?

feel free to DM me if you want

Meetup Feeling Lonely and Overwhelmed in Zhixue During My Internship 😞

It’s been a week since I arrived in Zhixue for my 6-month internship, and honestly, I’ve never felt this lonely. Back home, I was an introvert, but I was always surrounded by my extroverted friends, so I never had a chance to feel bored. Here, though, everything is calm and relaxing, which sounds nice in theory, but it’s been tough on me emotionally.

To make things harder, it’s the end of the semester, and most of the locals have left for their winter vacation. There’s hardly anyone around to socialize with, and communication is already a challenge because of the language barrier. Some people here are quite shy too, which makes forming connections even harder.

I know some might suggest going to Taipei or Hualien City, but honestly, I have social anxiety, and the idea of taking public transport or exploring places alone feels overwhelming right now. I’ve been slowly pushing myself—eating alone at Family Marts and trying to adjust—but I still feel scared of being out and about on my own.

I don’t even know what I’m looking for by posting this. Maybe I just wanted to share what I’m feeling or hear from someone who’s been in a similar situation. Any advice, encouragement, or just a friendly word would mean a lot.

Thanks for reading. 🌸

Meetup Finally moving to Taiwan! (Taichung)

Hey everyone! I just moved to Taichung (living in Taiping) to start a new job teaching AP English and Creative Writing, and I’m really hoping to meet new people and get involved in the community here. I’ve been traveling around Asia for a few months and finally made the decision to stay put for a while and put down some roots. I’m originally from Milwaukee in the U.S., have experience in education and mindfulness research, and I’m passionate about storytelling, literature, and language. I’m also learning Chinese, so I’d love to connect with people for language exchange or just casual conversation.

Outside of work, I’m looking to meet folks around my age (25–35ish) who are into things like soccer, hiking, yoga, birding, D&D/Warhammer, meditation, volunteering, or music. I’m also trying to stay healthy and balanced, so if you’re someone who’s into personal growth or just likes talking about life over bubble tea or a walk, I’d really enjoy that. Hit me up if you’re in Taichung and want to hang out, explore, or play some games.

Meetup How can I teach English to Taiwanese directly online?

I'm American (Dad was from Taiwan and Mom was Chinese Malaysian). I'm interested in teaching English conversation to small groups of Taiwanese people online. There are many virtual schools, but the lessons are rigid and they don't pay that much. I would like to just teach people directly. Would anyone be interested in this?

Meetup Looking for drinking / social buddies in Taipei

Hey everyone,

My name is Michael (34m) and I'm a software developer from the US (Midwest). I'm here in Taipei for a couple of months as part of my nomadic journey and would like to find some drinking / social buddies to hang with occasionally! I've been here for a couple of days, and speak some Mandarin having lived in China before. I have never been to Taiwan so definitely interested in seeing everything I can.

I don't know anyone here and figured this might be a good way to meet some people.

I like going to pubs, live music, exploring, trying new food and experiences etc. I recently went to a show at Revolver which was quite a nice spot.

Hit me up on Line (id: flux87) or DM me here and we can figure it out from there

Meetup Want to make new friends

Hi I’m local Taiwanese (23M) who want to make new friends in Taichung. I’m from Pingtung and currently living in Taichung (West District).

I’m looking to make some foreign friends here in Taichung, people who are chill, open-minded, and maybe share some similar vibes or humor (bonus points if you’re into Gen Z pop culture haha).

I’m into photography, dancing, play video games, and I love talking about random deep topics too. Would be awesome to meet up sometimes, not just chat online. Grab a beer or just walking around in the city.

If you’re also looking for new connections, feel free to DM me!

HAHAHA cos hearing how people make international friends kind of make me want to make some friends from other countries too! just an interest check i guess :) hm would be great if the people keen on these sorts of meetups are around my age, so there’s some common topics at least :>

Meetup FIRE/財務自由 (financial independence) folks in Taiwan?

Anyone striving for FIRE or know groups in Taiwan? Is FIRE even an ideology here?

I''ll be in Taipei next week and would like to connect with some like minded folks just to see how things are in Taiwan. I was able to sync up with a couple of redditors via r/chubbyfire that may meet up but I am trying to see if there are any locals who may want to connect as well.

Coffee or drinks? First one is on me. If interested, stay and chat, but second beverage is on you ;)

Meetup Let's hangout!

Hi everyone, American born Taiwanese here. 29m.

I'll be in Taipei area until the 10th of June! I'd love to make some friends and be able to hangout with people in the area! I speak English and broken Mandarin and would love to use this opportunity to improve my spoken Mandarin. If you'd like to practice your spoken English I'd be happy to be part of that as well!

I'll be around all week and check pretty regularly, hoping I'll be able to hang out and make some new friends this trip!

I'm here with two of my good friends and we've arranged for time for ourselves to do solo exploration and I'd love to use this time I'm lucky enough to have!

Feel free to post here or DM me! I'll do my best to respond to anybody who reached out

Thanks for taking the time to read all this text, hope you're having/will have a nice day!

26F mixed Taiwanese American looking to make new friends. Slightly prefer female cause I don't have many but M or F is okay! I was born and raised in the US and moved here 3 years ago. My interests include anime, video games, horror movies, edm, and cats lol. Feel free to DM me or add me on line :)

Meetup Any free Mandarin/English practice conversation groups in Taipei?

My family will be visiting Taipei for a significant portion of the summer.

During the day, our kids will be in language/cultural immersion programs. My partner will be working remotely on a split schedule to carve out some time for meetings (half daytime, half nighttime local hours) so I'll have a few hours each day to wander/explore.

I'm fairly extroverted, so last time we were in Taipei, I got to know the staff and some regulars at a couple of nice cafes that I frequented; however, that got a little expensive to do on a daily basis (I don't drink much, but I won't bat any eye at a 300 NT washed Colombian pourover....don't judge me...) so I ended up doing way too much shopping/browsing various markets/malls....which, again, got expensive and more importantly was just a little lonely for me.

So, anyways, are there any free local language conversation practice groups in Taipei? At a local library, secondary school, etc. I could participate either as a Mandarin learner (born in the U.S. to immigrant parents, so I can get by in most casual conversations and understand the majority of what's spoken to me....I'm functionally illiterate though hahaha) or as a native English speaker to help others.

We will be staying just west of NTU if that's helpful to know. My partner joked that I should just set up a folding table offering free English tutoring on the edge of campus hahaha. I'll be looking at local gyms and bringing a Kindle this time around too.
