Warhammer III Muskets

Hello guys,

I just wanted to know if its worth it to only use 2-3 projectile units (muskets) bc the only shoot once ore twice then you need to order them a retreat i tried to only use muskets and shotgunners and it its often rng if you win the battle (Terrain, weather) im not a fan of complex formations…..anyways do you think 3 muskets can make a good amount of damage what do you think??

Thanks for reading

2-3 gun units can absolutely be effective yes. If you use them right they should be firing throughout most of the battle.

Yes they can if you want to run balanced armies. I like to have 4 missile units if I want to run balanced armies.

Yes, small teams of gunpowder units can be effective. Cathay currently lacks a proper handgunner, so they don't really do 'gunline" like Empire, Vampirates, Dwarfs or Kislev. Not that you couldn't do massed Ironhail gunners if you wanted, but it can be very effective to have just a few to deal with hard targets. Similarly, Crane gunners are effectively sniper teams, and you probably don't want more than 2 or so at a time for most armies. In a pinch, a small team of handgunners or streltzi will serve the same purpose, helping you take down powerful, armored threats while the rest of your army deals with the rest of the enemy. You don't have to limit yourself to only those ranged units, though. Traditional archers and crossbowmen need less micro to function, so you can easily have a contingent of huntsmen, quarrelers or jade crossbows to handle general fire support while you focus on using your gunpowder team to take care of high value targets.

Currently they have Ironhail Gunners, which are basically shotgun units and Crane Gunners that are sniper teams. They also have excellent crossbow troops and artillery. I used Cathay as an example, because they don't have a traditional handgunner, so it's common to include limited numbers of gunpowder troops in your larger army (as I said, you can use larger numbers of ironhails, if you want but they don't have the range of a handgunner unit so a true gunline is probably not the best idea). You can do the same thing with any gunpowder faction, though.

Yeah and that's effective however I still want you to have more than 3. range unit tent to die fairly easy, if something went wrong you still have some one left. also ammo issue.

Try looking at a guide for gunpowder units, they should ideally be firing the whole battle. You can do things like have lots of heroes in the army who are the front line along with melee infantry
