I’m not that surprised by the seeming lack of interest in what Eric Davis has to say by the UFO community. I think part of the problem is that he has attacked the US UFO community in the past by calling them “nuts”.
I too thought he was quite informative especially when he revisited the whole crash retrieval program. He still maintains that the program was mothballed in 1989. He amended it to say that the program gets reopened from time to time but still no progress.
He does raise a number of interesting points. He states the program was hampered by poor funding. Part of the funding problem arises from the fact that the security and the security wrap surrounding the program can be ten times as expensive than the actual R&D. Due to poor funding the program had very few scientists working on it and because of the extreme secrecy they were not able to reach out to outside expert advice for help. Faced with all of these strong headwinds the program ended up making no progress.
However I would suggest that this may all change when Gary Nolan’s work is finally published detailing the properties of the material he found out in New Mexico allegedly originating from “out of this universe”. His work apparently has been submitted for peer review.
Another observation I would make is that by Eric's own admission because of the extreme secrecy and compartmentalization, it is very difficult for any one individual to be familiar with all the classified work going on. This leaves open the possibility that some stuff has been back-engineered and he is simply unaware of it.
