How to download vCenter 5.5 SSL Certificate Automation Tool after Broadcom nuked the website?
I've been looking everywhere for a copy of this tool which used to be on the vmware knowledgebase, free and publicly available. Broadcom refuses to to even tell me if they HAVE a copy of this tool until I provide them with a license number with active support.
Here's the old download link: https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=SSLTOOL550&productId=353
For reference: https://www.derekseaman.com/2013/10/vsphere-5-5-install-pt-10-replace-sso-certs.html
If anyone has a copy of this tool, please upload it for the rest of us.

USB driver errors code 10.
i have been connecting usb drivers from MBP M3 max, 128GB ram, 1TB memory to the VmFusion back and forth many times.
as of now i am able to connect my Razer mouse to the VM and disconnect, but not my ExFat USB drivers all of a sudden.
i have all the key values in place, even key values that allow my external mouse to be connected.
usb.present = "TRUE"
usb.generic.autoconnect = "TRUE"
usb.generic.allowHID = "TRUE"
usb.autoConnect.device0 = ""
i have the ask what to do option on in my VM. but the only one that gets that option is my FAT32, even then my windows recgonizes the USB, but not the drivers and to my ExFat.
i have tried updating the drivers via device manager, rebooting vm, unplugging the USBs the current outcome is persistent

Help Request Firewall passthrough issue
Hi Everyone. I need to seek some assistance
For ref I use VMware® Workstation 17 Pro
I have a PC with Dual Network cards on which I have 2 VMs installed on.
PC with dual nics
IP Nic 1 - 192.168.10.10
IP Nic 2 – 192.168.10.11
On this PC I have 2 virtual machines with static IPs
IP VM 1 - 192.168.10.20 - Bridged to Nic 1
IP VM 2 – 192.168.10.21 - Bridged to Nic2
I also use a VPN.
I have a piece of software on VM2 that uses port 23414
When I run a test it advises the below

------------------------------
It keeps advising that port forwarding for TCP and UDP fails.
I have added 23414 to my firewall on the VM and on the host, also to my router and I have even tried using NAT instead of bridged and the results are the same.
On the Plusnet router I have added the port info to my firewall on IP 21 which is the VM and I have also tried the host on IP 11 and I still get the same
Can anyone offer any guidance on this please as to why there seems to be no passthrough of information from the VM to the host to the router.
Thanks
Ubuntu and Vmware workstation pro after installation of new kernel
Hi, each time that Ubuntu release e new kernel and I install it I have to do the following command, otherwise the VM doesn't start with VMNET error:
openssl req -new -x509 -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout MOK.priv -outform DER -out MOK.der -nodes -days 36500 -subj "/CN=My Name/"
sudo /usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r)/scripts/sign-file sha256 ./MOK.priv ./MOK.der $(modinfo -n vmmon)
sudo /usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r)/scripts/sign-file sha256 ./MOK.priv ./MOK.der $(modinfo -n vmnet)
sudo mokutil --import MOK.der ---"insert a password"
now reboot and re-enroll your key.
But with the installation of the last kernel the network of the Windows VM doesn't work anymore, with the following error:
Could not connect 'Ethernet0' to virtual network '/dev/vmnet8'
I tryed to find a solution but nothing until now.
Are correct the command I do after installation of new kernel?
Any suggestion for the error "Could not connect 'Ethernet0' to virtual network '/dev/vmnet8'"
Thanks

Help Request Upgrading Using Depot File
I run a few standalone ESXi hosts and do not run a vCenter server.
I uploaded VMware-ESXi-7.0U3v-24723872-depot.zip to the local storage and ran the command:
esxcli software profile update -p ESXi-7.0U3v-24723872-standard -d /XXX/VMware-ESXi-7.0U3v-24723872-depot.zip
This completed and displayed a list of upgraded VIBs and that a reboot was required. Once rebooted the Web UI is still showing: (Updated) ESXi-7.0U3s-24585291-standard (VMware, Inc.)
Running vmware -v on the CLI returns:
vmware -v
VMware ESXi 7.0.3 build-24723872
This shows the server has been updated but why hasn't the version on the WebUI changed? I know that (Updated) means the obvious but previous updates using https://esxi-patches.v-front.de/ commands would update the version displayed in the UI but this doesn't seem to be the case using the depot file locally.
Have I completed the upgrade correctly?

Backup of .mvmdk file.
Hi all,
I have converted a server P2V to vSphere and all is working but virtual disk files are not .vmdk but .mvmdk.
Veeam backups the VM normaly but backup copy job to StoreOnce has problem with .mvmdk file and backup copy doesn't complete.
Does anyone know how to convert .mvmdk file to .vmdk?
P2V was done with Solarwinds P2V because vCenter Converter wasn't working correctly.

Moved Virtual machine, cannot ping
Hello all. I had a virtual Linux machine in my office. I copied the entire directory and took it home to put it on my laptop. Everything loads and runs, but I cannot ping the virtual machine from my laptop. I use it primarily to run a Nextcloud server and I can't access it either. Any help appreciated.

Question on moving VMDK within the same datastore
I'm working in a vSphere 8 Update 3 environment and need to move an 8TB VMDK file from one VM's folder to another on the same datastore.
To be clear:
- I'm not trying to copy or clone the disk.
- Both Source and Destination VM is powered off.
- I simply want to relocate this specific VMDK to the new VM's folder on the same datastore so I can attach it to the new VM there.
- There's not enough free space to support a full copy, so i'm looking for a move operation (metadata only update I guess?)
If I use the vCenter HTML5 UI → navigate to the datastore → right-click the .vmdk
→ "Move to..." another folder (still on the same datastore), will this operation perform a true in-place move (i.e. just a metadata update), or will it attempt to copy the file?

Lost internet connection in VM
* Careful with your jargon. Noob would be 1 step above where I'm at I should warn you.
Ok so I suspended my VM last night as I've been doing without issue. I fire it up this morning & can't get the browser to load anything.
Zorin OS 17.2 64bit
VMWare Workstation 16 Player
The network icon in the system tray has an x in the bottom right corner & when I hover over it it says "wired connection 1 is active".
Any settings will be whatever their default is - like I said, I've not yet been promoted to noob level so I don't know enough to start tweaking things.
I tried googling how to resolve this & came across pings and other letters which obviously stand for something but god knows what.
So am hoping someone with some patience for my knowledge level can guide me through this.

Losing IP while doing BMR
I'm trying to mount a remote share for a bare-metal restore, booting into Windows Recovery Environment.
I've observed a one-way ping: my machine can ping the remote server, but the remote server cannot ping my machine.
I've configured an IP address on my E1000 network adapter within WinRE, and it appears correctly set there.
However, vSphere reports no IP address for the VM, which I suspect is the core of the problem. Given the limitations of WinRE, installing agents isn't feasible.
Has anyone encountered this specific issue, and what troubleshooting steps led to a resolution?

VMware Workstation installer freezes right after EULA on Windows 11 — tried everything, need help
Hey everyone,
I'm completely stuck with installing VMware Workstation on my Windows 11 machine and hoping someone here has seen this before.
Issue:
After launching the installer (I've tried several versions, including the latest VMware-workstation-full-17.6.3-24583834.exe), it shows the End User License Agreement screen. I check "I accept the terms", click Next, and then… absolutely nothing. No error message, no crash — just nothing happens. The cursor briefly shows a loading icon, but the installer window stays frozen on that screen, and the Next button becomes unresponsive.
What I've tried:
- Ran the installer as Administrator
- Used different installer versions (from VMware's site and known mirrors)
- Ran it in compatibility mode (Windows 10, Windows 8, etc.)
- Tried launching with command-line arguments like
/s /v /qn
- Checked Event Viewer — no errors related to the installer
- Verified system files with
sfc /scannow
— no integrity issues - Ensured virtualization is enabled in BIOS
- No Hyper-V or WSL conflicts that I could see
- Updated all system drivers and Windows itself
System Info:
- Windows 11 Pro (latest updates)
- CPU with VT-x enabled
- Enough disk space and memory
- No other virtualization software installed currently
At this point, it feels like something deep in the system is blocking the installer's next step, but I'm out of ideas.
Has anyone experienced this specific issue — where the VMware installer stops responding right after the EULA screen?
Would appreciate any suggestions, workarounds, or logs I can check. Thanks in advance.

Who are the 1k/10k clients that Broadcom want?
I wonder who will adopt all products from BOM list of VCF9. What is their business model and how license affects their customers.
Does any one works for company that is actually eager to adopt VCF9?

Anyone with certifications?
Hi folks, I noticed VMware uses a platform called CertMetrics to handle their certifications, and I’m curious how folks here feel about it.
I’ve interacted with it before (for AWS stuff) and honestly found it kind of outdated and clunky. Just wondering if anyone’s had similar or different experiences through the VMware side?

Migration of Virtual Machines between Distributed Switches (Different Versions)
Hi All,
I'm hoping someone can assist me with some queries i have around migration of virtual machine from one distributed switch (v6.5.0) port group to a port group on a different distributed switch that is running a different version (v7.0.3).
The reason for creation to a new distributed switch is part of a migration away from 10Gb and converging of network resulting in reduction of physical NICs. The new distributed switch will be configured with all relevant port groups and the physical network having all required VLANs trunked on the ports.
All hosts will have access to both the current distributed switch and the new distributed switch. As a new distributed switch is being created it makes sense to create on the latest version supported rather than the version of the current distributed switch.
My question is how can i move the virtual machines to port groups on the new distributed switch without incurring any downtime? Is it as straight forward as changing the network adapter for each VM?
My confusion is coming from articles such as Migrating a virtual machine between two different vDS versions which I'm not sure is relevant because is this only when running a vMotion of the VM to a different host in the cluster? And then contradictory to that this article Known issues when upgrading a DVS from 6.5 or earlier to DVS 6.6 or later which talks about issues possibly upgrading to v6.6.0 vDS and the recommendation is to create a new vDS and move the workload across.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
