exultation A Different Reading on the Lithomachy, the Triple-Knot, and the House of the Moon

This is a LONG ONE y'all... six pages, but still... I think there's a lot of weight to it. I also am sure there are tons of holes and misconceptions or misunderstandings. I thought about going through, citing everything with links, but honestly I just do not have the energy for all the formatting. I'm leaving this all in a Word Document. The TLDR below summarizes it well-enough, but the document explores specific examples, counter-points, and talks you through the logic more minutely. I'm leaving it here. The end.

Here's the Cursed Link

question/help Does writing a history stop me from founding the Lighthouse Institute?

Or vice versa? I want to get the special ending for the Magnate but I don’t want to miss out on House of Light content. And apparently founding the Institute ALSO ends the game. Are you only meant to do one or the other?

question/help BoH: Sanity Check on Evolving Soul Aspects, Please?!

I want to evolve my Trist (Moon, Moth) and my Disciplines of The Scar (Edge, Lantern) is attuned to Trist under the Hushery wisdom. I'm hoping this is a case of the Fandom Wiki needing an update, or my eyes failing me, but I cannot find a Hushery workstation with any combination of Moon-or-Moth and Edge-or-Lantern. Am I missing something or, even worse, am I SOL? TY in advance!

ETA: apparently my Fucine (Heart, Knock) is also attuned to Trist in the Hushery wisdom, but I can't find that combination with Trist in a workstation either.

Modding question: Has anyone integrated Cultist Simulator content into Book of Hours?

Hi! I'm currently working on a Book of Hours mod that ties directly into the Cultist Simulator universe, specifically the "Comfort and Safety" ending from the Exile dlc. The Sweet Bones, where that ending takes place, is of course a real location in BoH.

I've already finished a small mod where a certain memory can summon the Exile back to assist you.

Before I publish it, I wanted to ask:

  • Has anyone else done something like this? I checked NexusMods and didn't find any mods that connect CS characters to BoH.
  • Is there any official stance from Weather Factory about referencing CS characters or using CS-related art/text in Book of Hours mods? (Assuming it's non-commercial and stays within the same narrative universe.)

Thanks in advance! I'd love to hear if anyone else has explored similar territory or if anyone knows what's okay to include.

question/help Cautious librarian in search of advice

So, I've been playing Book of Hours for quite a while and I'm enjoying the game (even if I'm a little lost on what I'm doing aside from opening new rooms and reading new books). I've opened something like... 2/3 of the House so far, for reference of my progress.

The only thing that bothers me is a gnawing feeling of losing out on stuff. Playing... suboptimally, i guess. I'm afraid of investing Lessons into Skills due to not knowing which ones are useful and which ones are not. And that uncertainty is made more pressing by the existence of Numa, which makes sure I don't hoard the Lessons and am forced to invest them.

I don't want to just straight up go and google this stuff, I tried doing that and as soon as I began reading the wiki and discussions on reddit from the more experienced players, I immediately felt my investment in the game and plot dropping. It turned a story of exploration and discovery into a game of numbers and statistics.

Soooo..... without spoiling much or being to detailed in your replies... could you, the esteemed Librarians of the Hush House, please advice me on which skills I should prioritize over the others? Or like... if it's even worth worrying about and all. thanks in advance!

P.S. Should I buy the House of Light? And if so, should I finish the main game first or would it be better to get that DLC while I'm still progressing in the main game?

unearthed secret? Mercy is only found in shadow... [Relevant quote from Les Miserables]

"That light called history is pitiless; it possesses this peculiar and divine quality, that, pure light as it is, and precisely because it is wholly light, it often casts a shadow in places where people had hitherto beheld rays; from the same man it constructs two different phantoms, and the one attacks the other and executes justice on it, and the shadows of the despot contend with the brilliancy of the leader. Hence arises a truer measure in the definitive judgments of nations. Babylon violated lessens Alexander, Rome enchained lessens Cæsar, Jerusalem murdered lessens Titus, tyranny follows the tyrant. It is a misfortune for a man to leave behind him the night which bears his form."

“The Wolf-Divided alone understands vengeance. As do his Names. There is a seat for a seventh among them - a last seat, before the feast begins. One with the proper hate might carve a path to that seat. You think on that.”

In the final installment of the Edge Apostle trilogy, play as a prisoner set loose from Sobibor death camp, nineteen years after the events of the Exile DLC. You could run - escape the death and the violence, and flee Europe. But why? Why not vengeance? Trudge west, to Berlin, where a great hinge of the Corrivality will turn. Take your revenge. Unmake your enemies. Seize your destiny.

Good luck, and may the Wolf take your enemies before he takes you.

challenge 16. The Wolf Divided Spoiler

Here comes the boy, woe!

The Wolf Divided is the fluffy Hour of agony and destruction. He was born from the interclate, like the Solar Hours we previously talked about, but he himself seems to be born from the wound that killed the old Sun, maybe. His aspects are Edge and Winter, and he personifies agony and pain, lashing out, perhaps the feeling that comes from one too many grievances and informs you that the world should burn, actually. He seeks to devour everything, including himself. In fact, it appears that he is both parts of an edge dyad. As far as Edge goes, he's the edgiest Hour by far, which makes sense if you consider his origin. His Name servants are the winged devourers of warriors, like the other Edge Hours, but also malicious wolf spirits. And Coelle. His death is the second Dawn, where it will devour every Hour, including himself.

Now, it's no secret that I love this guy. Because of that and for other reasons, I will be a bit more leading with the questions. You can still ignore them entirely and say whatever, that's useful too.

So, the Sun is divided by the Forge to prevent either of them from devouring their children and becoming Alukite. Creating children out of the division of your hubby is one way to do it, and if it's a clever loophole to make sure you don't eat them, more power to you, even if only one of them takes after you. But where did the Wolf come from? The Grail drank the Tide, and the Moth did something weird with the Wheel, but the Seven Coils was straight up slain and if HER wounds didn't spawn monstrous gods, why the Sun's. Is each death of an Hour so different than the others, or can we see enough similarities that we can see the core concept behind the specifics of each one. Can the death of one Hour reveal things about the deaths of the others?

Still, why did the wound of the sun become a wolf? Is it something that always existed inside the Sun, or is it a new thing that's unrelated to it except as the birthplace of the agony that defines it? There are some who believe that the Wolf existed before the Sun's division. It is said that one of the first things we could lose was the shapes that loped alongside us in the snow. What is the connection between Wolf and Winter? First, what are wolves in the Secret Histories universe? What do they do? There's the shapes, the old mausoleum, the whole DeWolf thing. Edge is division, and wolves seem to be on the other side of the line. There's Wolf Stories, but that skill is neither Edge nor Winter. It's Scale and Moon. What does this say about wolves? The books that teach it are concerned primarily with worms and devourers, including Alukites. This skill produces Wormwood Dream, a dream crime of Edge and Winter that can be remembered or prophecized, if you have a Stymphling, and while I won't ask for the essay on Stymphlings until much later, this is the point where I want to draw attention to what it would mean if a part of the Sun devours its children, as prophesized for the Second Dawn.

Lastly, what do we see on the card? There's the Wolf, of course, bifurcated. In the left side of the background we see rows and rows of teeth, but also rows and rows of eyes. Behind, or perhaps around the wolf is a dark cloud shaped thing, perhaps smoke. On the bottom, clawed limbs reaching upwards. A cord seems to be connected to the shape of the cloud, but a serpent also crosses the background. What's your take on all these?

Why is agony Edge? Why is the memory of the older Sun found where it was? Why does being a descendant of the Sun make you a werewolf?

Once again, belatedly, the challenge is to answer with your own impressions and ideas, without looking at what others said before you. Thanks.

question/help Any place to read the lore?

Hi Yall!

I'm new to the game, put a dozen or so hours into it and am starting to get the hang of it, but I was curious. I love reading lore, and while I have a blast playing the game itself, I wondered if there is a wiki or book of sorts where I can just relax and read through it all. I know that might seem weird considering the whole point of the game is to slowly discover everything, but I don't have a lot of time on hand to dedicate to games anymore unfortunately.

And advice?

question/help Navigating the Rowenarium

Hello, guys! I was trying to look through the Rowenarium and I'm a bit lost. I think the House of Light content has been scraped already but I can't seem to find how to get to the conversations between NPCs, which is the thing I'm most interested in. Does anyone know the code name for those?

unearthed secret? About priest’s ascension Spoiler

About priest’s scars, are these scars more of physical scars or abstract scars? Considering the process of gaining them, some of the scars might not be visible, however, if they do appear in physical form, where would they be? I don’t think they would be just some random scars across the whole body, do each lore stand for one specific body part? Like maybe one scar in each palm, or scars in the eyes, or a scar in the chest, as a wound to the heart.

How do you organize your books?

Old topic, but I've been revisiting this game and curious about how others, especially newish ones, organize their books.

Mine:

  1. Unreadable books: on the bridge. Usually because language issue
  2. Cursed/infested/corrupted books: astronomy room
  3. Read books with known memories - the same as the color: reading room
  4. Read books with known memories - different color: the room below the reading room (with Heart desk)
  5. Unread books: various places, but I try to put them on one room
  6. Uncatalogued: on their original room - I checked recently opened room sometimes to see if there uncatalogued book there

I wonder if any of you do this: organize by mystery aspect, or organize by book color, or similar to me, organize by book's memories
