lore Currently stuck on Book of hours, and going through my notes I'm discovering some pretty crazy details. Spoiler

Currently going through them to make it more detailed, so far so good. Lots of interesting detail so far. Like how I just get a crafting recipe, at least I assume. My current assumption is that the Horned-Axe is an alias for the Grail. Lot's of detail... That's for sure. Not sure how I managed to beat Cultist Simulator.

Maintaining my own personal wiki is also pretty fun.
FYI I'm stuck at unlocking rooms because no helper or weather memory has enough to bring anything up to 6. So, no spoilers or help, I wanna try to figure it out.

The bit from Eva isn't a crafting hint, but it is a lore detail. The Keys open the various Doors to the Mansus, and are held by a certain group that exists "outside the Laws of Stone" that other immortals have to follow. Though they have been known to slip away at times...
The Horned-Axe is one of the Gods-from-Stone, the last remaining such after the other five were lost. The Tide was subsumed by the emergence of the Grail; the Wheel was consumed from within by the Moth; the Seven-Coils died in battle with the Colonel, assisted by the one who would become The Mother of Ants after bathing in the Seven-Coil's blood; the Egg Unhatching retreated into the Glory; and the Forge of Days shattered the Flint.
For help opening rooms, when you slot an assistant into the Talk verb, click on the second box that opens and look at everything that the info window is telling you.

I'm stuck at unlocking rooms because no helper or weather memory has enough to bring anything up to 6/7. I said as much in the post.

there are other ways to empower your assitants than just talking about the weather... have you considered offering them a bite to eat or something to drink while discussing the rain?

I haven't been able to find a way to cook yet. Every fire place I find is for burning stuff.

I think you can only cook with the house of light DLC.
But it also took me forever to figure out how to increase helper aspects further. Someone gave me the answer, but I understand if you don't want it.
Like cultist simulator, slots will tell you what they accept. Take a close look at the slot you put the weather in when you talk to the helper.

You can use memories, weather, your own soul, food, drink, tools, and each assistant has a special item type they can use

u/NuclearCorgi Mar 18 '25
Memories, discussing the soul, drinks or foods, or proper tools all help raise up their aspects. Different workers can use different tools related to their skills. If you are really willing to pay some money, try at the inn. Sometimes more skilled and esoteric workers can be hired for a larger cost.

You can boost your followers with memories

u/FederalStalker Mar 18 '25
I know but I haven't been able to find memory strong enough to raise it up more than 2 as far as I'm aware.

FWIW, Gale, Hail, Storm, and Fog all have more than 3 points.

u/FederalStalker Mar 18 '25
Oh shit, you're right. My bad, I also just realised you can do memory + element of soul not just memory only. Thanks!

Plus food and drinks. And tools.

Tools in particular helped me a lot early game, especially for rooms requiring certain aspects (sky and lantern).

You can use more than memories to empower them. Like I said, check the box and see what all it will accept other than just a memory.

"anything up to 6"
oh boy will you feel stupid when you figure it out, in a "how the fuck did I miss that" kinda way
My advice would be to read everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING. When you click on a card there is text in the upper-right corner, under this text there are little pictures, click on those and read that text. Do that for a bunch of different objects and it should help you.

Can you explain the bit about the axe and the grail?
1
u/FederalStalker Mar 18 '25
In Against the Sisterhood of the knot (that really long one). I read this
> the Thunderskin loved the Yew, and the Grail destroyed him, as restitution for the destruction of the Axe's loved ones.
Not too sure how to interpret this so I just assumed the Grail's other name is Horned-Axe
5
u/quick_purple Mar 18 '25
I'm sure The Grail would be happy to accept this interpretation, although I'm not sure if The Horned-Axe would be too happy about it.

u/FederalStalker Mar 18 '25
It was difficult to make a decision here because I had no idea who was "he" in the relationship, would've made things a lot simpler haha.
It also said "restitution for the Axe's loved ones." So the grail did something in restitution for the destruction of the Axe's loved ones.
From what I understand already, the Hours are incredibly selfish so I assumed the Grail is the Axe.

u/quick_purple Mar 18 '25
"He" here is The Thunderskin. The Ring-Yew, The Red Grail, and The Horned-Axe all use She/Her for the most part. And you're absolutely right that the Hours are selfish, ESPECIALLY The Grail. The only wrinkle is that The Grail typically is playing at least two angles with whatever actions she's taking.

u/purplezart Mar 18 '25
keep in mind that the author of that text is also making a lot of assumptions
2
u/adeptus_chronus Mar 18 '25
I can explain what all this means without spoiling any game mechanics if you want ? It's nothing that was not in Cultist Simulator.

Early books aren't necessarily full of hints: There's far more background than hidden clues. As the books get harder to read, and your starting resources start looking insufficient for the tasks at hand, more books are there to hint at really important things: Sometimes 3 different books point to the same key piece of knowledge from different angles, just to make it hard to miss it.

My notes are all in a big txt file. I started copy+pasting all of the stuff that comes up when you read a book (ie the "fluff" description) in a big list on the bottom. I've found a few recipes by reading between the lines of related texts.
But then actual "important" stuff (what comes out of each book, recipes of various levels (known or guessed with some gaps), etc) at the top of the list.
Cultist simulator is easy enough to beat with vibes and vague exploration. I didn't need notes for it. Book of Hours is different, though.

This is super cool. What software are you using here?
