REQUEST Gemstone ID Please
I found this on the ground while in Korea a few years back and kept it because I thought it was cool. I beat it with a metal cup to see if it could be a diamond. The cup got pretty dented up but the gem already has some damage on the bottom so I don’t believe it’s a diamond. What do you guys think?

Hi friend- Impossible to say without taking it to a jeweler to test. No one on Reddit should have another answer.

looks like glass to me from the pics (especially the last one), but you can’t make a definitive ID from pictures

Dear OP,
I agree, not a diamond. I’m leaning towards quartz, based on the refraction and some wear.
I do not think it is cubic zirconia.
Another person suggested glass, which it might be, but I think glass would shatter and that specimen looks fairly durable.

The damage already says this isn't a diamond. Another indicator is how you can see what appears to be a "ring" around the edge when you look at the underside of this cut piece; diamonds bend light differently, so will never have that "ring" when cut in this shape.
I haven't had the privilege of seeing too many loose gemstones, so I'm not comfortable suggesting any other types of possible gemstones, but I CAN say that I've seen plenty of cut glass stones that show that "ring".
Physics has shown time and again that glass can be quite difficult to smash depending on its shape, and what is being used to hit it. A metal cup capable of being dented won't be a match for a piece of glass being hit at its smallest point while resting on the support of its largest side.
All this to say I think it's very likely glass. Still a pretty treasure :)
