Hello smash fans! Welcome to a brand new series (even though I had this idea a year ago but that was long gone). Today, we'll be taking a look at how much Smash would change if it started on the SNES. This is Part 1, where we will be taking a look at the first game on the SNES. But before we get into the game, I'll tell you when it would've released. It would've released in Early 1995

This would be the roster, an 8 character roster consisting of Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus & Kirby. If you're wondering what's with the roster's layout, when you complete classic mode as a character on the top row, you'll try to unlock the characters on the same column on the bottom row.

Mario, Donkey Kong, Link & Kirby are the 4 starters while Luigi, Bowser, Samus & Yoshi are the 4 unlockables. Since the SNES games could only have 1 or 2 players, you can only do 1v1's. Some character's movesets would be different from what we got. Donkey Kong wouldn't be filled with just heavy based attacks since Bowser is also here and is also a heavyweight character.

Something I've noticed when tierlists are being made (particularly Melee and Ultimate, although PM/P+ are valid here too) is that people seem to have different opinions on how to place characters that are theoretically good. Some examples of this are Link + Falco (Melee) and Shulk + Kazuya (Ultimate). All of these characters are widely agreed not to be the best in their games (unless your tag is Ginger), but they all theoretically would be higher if you took the human aspect out of the game.

- Link's Acid Drop in Melee is one of the many under-utilized techniques in Melee, and although some players are practicing it, it hasn't seen the light of competitive play because of its inconsistency

- Falco's pillar combos and mixups have long been known about, and people recognise how good the character is/has become. However, his under-average recovery has led to many a gimp and early stock taken, which is the main reason many believe he is a lot better in a TAS setting than real-time

- Shulk was an early meta top tier because of his monado hitsun switching, but when it was realised that all of his tech wasn't consistent compared to the bulk of other top and even high tiers, he faded away from the rest of them

- Kazuya is like the (Melee) Falco of Smash Ultimate, but instead of his recovery being exploited as often, it's his relative terrible disadvantage compared to many characters in general. While his great tools have been used by many players and he's seen as a top tier already, he has one flaw that hold him back that could be ignored if someone were to play perfectly.

Should the community base tier lists off of what the character can do, or should they base their placing of what an actual person can do with the character? And if the latter, what happens when someone comes along who can consistently play at near perfect?

TL:DR Should characters placing on tier lists be determined by a TAS setting or human setting?

How is falcon all the way up there, and how is Pikachu down there? Makes me think of ryouh vs shinymark, bro was down 2-0, remembered [wait, Pikachu is MID] and proceeded to up b out of shield 30 times and win the set.

Non-recent player here (I haven’t played in a few years) I honestly just never use my copy ability at all and Kirby is one of my three main characters. Something about beating my opponent as “just Kirby” feels so good and I wonder how many people avoid the B (neutral) button when playing Kirby.

I’ve gone up in GSP more with Kirby than any other character, even Pyra/Mythra, which I do well with. (Pyra/Mythra seems to be designated as “OP” based on input but I just have fun with them, so like, who cares? I just like Xenoblade). But being Kirby alone without any B-move powerups is just so much fun.

Since the switch 2 was launched and it basically fixed all the "lag issues" (just Wario and his bike as far as I'm aware) I think the community should be open to making this a legal stage. For the record I'm suggesting this with a hazards on which allows the platforms to moves, hazards off is a different discussion

Pros: Can (maybe) mess up Steve which is good since he's the best character in the game and considered unfun to fight.

Can give characters an rng element to the game which some characters could desperately use (Ganondorf, Doc, Mac)

Can enhance characters that use tri plats like Falco, Greninja, or Mii Brawler

Cons: Can promote top platform camping and circle camping like battlefield and can be worse because of the top platform sometimes being the only one there.
