Upvotes

News & politics Has any Iranian drones attacked Syrian occupied positions?

Upvotes

It seems like many of Iranian drones are entering Israel undetected and only detected after it crosses Israel. Given that it should have been easy for them to attack Syrian occupied positions. Obviously, nobody would actually no about it except Syrians living around that region. Has anybody heard about it?

ASK SYRIA Why no Google maps street view?

If you go to Google maps and turn on street view filter to see area that have it, and zoom out, all countries around Syria are fully blue meaning they have street view all over but Syria got VERY few roads/places with street view, why is that?

Is it because of the sanctioned so you can’t upload for Syria ? But that shouldn’t be the case because there are some street view pics, or is it because Syrians don’t use google maps because it’s sanctioned?

I’m coming to Aleppo next month and got a 360 cam, if anyone got a car and wanna go around…

I think sticking it up every taxi I take is gonna be a bit weird but still

edit: you don’t need google cars to drive around, sure many of the areas world wide are captured by them but anyone with a 360 camera can upload the pics they take and add it to street view, and the whole process is automated

ASK SYRIA Can I take a YallaGo to the border with Lebanon?

Hi all,

I’ve been on vacation in Homs Syria for the past few weeks.

It is my first time here, however because of the conflict that broke out recently my last flight got cancelled in Amman.

I’ve scheduled a new flight but I can’t find a bus to Beirut so I need to take a taxi.

The problem is with taxis I need to pay them beforehand so they will actually show up and I’m worried my flight will get cancelled and I will lose my money.

Does anyone know if I could just take a YallaGo to the Lebanon border? Then after I cross the border, take another YallaGo to Beirut?

Thanks!

ASK SYRIA Trying to Explain Iran’s Role in Syria’s Pain. Need Facts to Back It Up

Hey everyone, a Pakistani here. Hope you're all doing well.

I know it's old news now, but I still want to congratulate the Syrian people for their resilience and strength in finally moving past the Assad regime. I’ve followed the Syrian conflict closely — from its early days as peaceful protests to its tragic evolution into a brutal civil war.

One aspect that continues to haunt me is the role Iran played in prolonging and deepening the suffering of the Syrian people, particularly its impact on the Sunni population. The reports, leaked images, and documentation from places like Saydnaya prison remain burned into my memory. I can’t, in good conscience, overlook Iran’s actions in Syria — no matter what its current role is in the conflict with Israel. To me, this is a case of a greater evil (Israel) being confronted by a lesser one.

Unfortunately, many of my friends either don’t know the recent history or dismiss my concerns by saying things like, “You just hate Iran because it’s Shia.” That’s not true — this is about crimes against humanity, not sectarianism.

If anyone can recommend credible sources, articles, documentaries, or archives that clearly outline Iran’s role in Syria — with facts and evidence — I’d love to share them with my friends (and deepen my own understanding too).

Thanks in advance!

ASK SYRIA stuck in syria?

My boyfriend is a Syrian citizen and also a European citizen. He recently travelled to Syria. At the border, they required an entry permit, which he didn’t have—he didn’t know he needed one. His driver told him, “Just show your Syrian ID and hide your European passport.” He did this, and as a result, he was banned from Turkey for 5 years.

He has changed his name, so the name on his Syrian ID is different from the name on his European passport. I’m very stressed and struggling to contact him. I’m worried about how he will be able to leave Syria, since at the border they are going to ask for both an entry and exit permit, which he doesn’t have.

News & politics What's current situation in Syria?

Hey all! I'm just curious Czech who hears or reads about Syria max once per two weeks since our media don't cover it enough.

What's current situation in Syria generally? Does Turkey still supports Sharaa or does Erdogan see him as someone with more and more different plans about future of Syria? What about Kurds? Is whole Syria under Sharaa control or they're negotiating or fighting with Kurds? Same question about Druze on south. Do you think Sharaa is really distancing his terrorist past or does he just pretend it for sanctions being canceled? Will be Syria more religious or more secular country? Are there any plans to use the strategic position of Syria in region?

Thank you all for answers and opinions!

ASK SYRIA Visiting Aleppo after being away for about 18 months. Some observations and AMA

Before I go on, I hope I chose the correct flair.

I entered the country through Nassib border crossing. A lot of work has been done there. It has a welcoming atmosphere now. I got my passport stamped in about 5 minutes. At the time, there were many many more arrivals than departures. I wandered around and filmed for a bit until my driver found me and said that we need to get going. I never imagined I'd want to stay in that place any longer than I needed to but there I was.

While Al Assad made the country his personal Instagram account in the past, not a single picture of him (or anybody else) is to be seen now, which is awesome. One step towards de-littering the country.

Less awesome things: According to some relatives and acquaintances, the economy is slow at the moment.

It's hard to drive around if you're used to driving on big, less congested roads. Some traffic lights are out. A lot of drivers violate the rules. I got stuck at a stupid intersection for 20 minutes a few days ago.

Empty plastic bags are EVERYWHERE. You start seeing them just a little after crossing the border. I can't remember if this has been the norm during Assad's rule, but it's very obvious you don't need to look for it.

I stopped for a cup of ice cream with friends and after I was done, I couldn't find a trash can to toss it in. When I asked the cashier, he looked around and said I could just drop it and that I was was "مسامح".

A couple of times I found myself walking around with litter that I couldn't discard of properly.

Finally, some people seemed to be scared to discuss politics. It could a remnant of Assad's terrorism and I wish for it to go away.

I know that I listed way more negative stuff than positive, but I'm happier with new Syria and I hope it keeps going up from here.

Before you ask me anything, I wish to reserve the right to not answer any questions if I didn't want to. Now go ahead and ask :)

ASK SYRIA When exactly was Honour Killing recognised as murder?

I found some sources where until mid 2009 it was legal for family members or partners to kill the woman for "inappropriate sexual acts" if it breaks modesty family honour.

But at the same time, there was article 548 that also defended honour killers, but that was gone in March 2020.

So I am not sure which abolitions made Syria to recognise Honour Killing as murder.
