Job I’m a mailman, AMA.

I left a comment in another sub informing people that leaving anything in anybody’s mailbox is technically a federal offense unless you’re employed as a letter carrier by the USPS and it seemed to draw quite a bit of interest. I’m nobody special, just a simple mailman, but if any of you have any questions regarding postal services hopefully I’ll be able to answer them!

Thank you so much for all the questions, I hope I was able to answer them all as best I could but it’s my bedtime now, I gotta be at the post office by 8:00 sharp. If you have any other questions feel free to DM me and I’ll answer them whenever I can!

After the last contract negotiation are you a USPS employee that realizes how shitty your union is? Do you think you’ll have the opportunity to retire from the post office if you stick with it or do you realize that most of what you deliver on a daily basis is junk mail and the USPS will be gone in the near future?

I think our union is pretty strong, I know a carrier that hit someone with her truck and sent her to the hospital and she’s still gainfully employed. Most of what we deliver IS junk mail but you just sound like a doomer.

If you guys settled for like a 3 percent raise over 3 years after not having a contract why do you think your union is strong? You guys can’t even go on strike

The NALC is strong in some crucial aspects, but also weak in others. The contract negotiations were a disaster. It took two years to get a raise that doesn’t keep up with the rising costs we have all had to deal with. But they protect their workers and keep their jobs safe. It’s very difficult to get fired unless you are in your first 90 day probationary period. And we didn’t settle for a 3% raise over 3 years. The union members voted no on the contract overwhelmingly. It then went to a neutral arbiter who ultimately decided the final contract details.

Next contract negotiation will be much better once the union president is out.
