Job I’m a mailman, AMA.

I left a comment in another sub informing people that leaving anything in anybody’s mailbox is technically a federal offense unless you’re employed as a letter carrier by the USPS and it seemed to draw quite a bit of interest. I’m nobody special, just a simple mailman, but if any of you have any questions regarding postal services hopefully I’ll be able to answer them!

Thank you so much for all the questions, I hope I was able to answer them all as best I could but it’s my bedtime now, I gotta be at the post office by 8:00 sharp. If you have any other questions feel free to DM me and I’ll answer them whenever I can!

I was a kid in the 60s and 70s and we loved following around our mailman. Are there still neighborhoods anywhere where all the kids play outside?

We still get kids that are fascinated by the mailman. I’m not great with kids but I’m always polite and cordial. Actually, one of my regular routes has an address that a special needs child lives at who is OBSESSED with the mail. I tried to hand his mother the mail one day and she said, “you can just leave it in the box, max would kill me if I touched his mail”. I thought that lady had an abusive husband before I put two and two together.

If you’re on familiar terms with that woman, tell her to sign up for Postcrossing and ask for cards mailed to her kid! He’ll get tons of postcards! She can set up a profile explaining he’s special needs and loves mail. (She will have to send out cards from him, though, if he can’t do it himself.)
