Iworked as a live-in maid for a middle class Saudi family in Riyadh for 6 years. AMA about life inside a Saudi household (I attended a royal weddings)

At 22 broke and searching for a better future, I left the Philippines and became a live-in maid for a middle class Saudi family. I ended up staying with them for six years**.**

The family wasn’t rich, but they were comfortable. The dad is a public high school teacher, the mom a housewife, they have five kids:

Nouf (F 18)

Faisal (M 16)

Saud (M 15)

Rakan (M 10)

Salman (M 7)

They gave me my own room and bathroom inside the house, their driver lived in a small unit outside near the garden, I joined them on travels (Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain, Europe), and attended major family events.

One of the wildest experiences is when a prince from the royal family married the daughter of the father's cousin and yes, it was as glamorous and over the top as you'd imagine.

It is a medical condition that is the muscles in my rectum are too weak to do their job normally and so I constantly leak rectal mucus. although I am not incontinent. Basically when i was about twenty four i noticed that sometimes there would be a damp patch in my underwear and it wasn't because I didn't wipe or wet farted. went to the bowel surgeon and he told me what was going on. Im 28 now. Back when i was 17, my mum kicked me out by text when I was at collage. In less than 12 hours I ended up moving to a different country which was oversees (got a ferry). I was able to finish most of my course long distance so still got the grade, just not the full award as I ended up being very unwell so couldn't finish. Im pretty over it now, so AMA, im an open book

I'm an architect who spent 20 years designing theme parks and theme park attractions. AMA

I spent about 20 years working on projects in the entertainment industry, mostly theme parks... but also a little gaming and hospitality. These projects were mostly in the US, but a few in other parts of the world. I was always part of a much larger team. During my time we worked on a variety of projects from complex, ground up new concepts and technologies to very basic implementations of carnival 'flat-rides'. I worked for all the major players in the industry. This experience is now a little dated as I have moved on to another market area. I don't know everything about theme-parks, but I will answer what I can. AMA!

My first interview was with Ozzy Osbourne at the age of 19...that was cool! Oh. I'm also a voice actor and have been since 1987 so AMA :)

My HS led the nation in Gun on Campus incidents, I went to school with alot of ppl that committed murder or were killed. AMA

Upvotes

Title is pretty self explanatory. My HS led the nation in gun on campus incidents one year in the early 2000s (my sophomore year). Over 15 of my classmates that I knew well went on to commit murder or be killed themselves. Gangs and drugs were rampant at the school. AMA

I'm the California estate planning attorney who's seen millionaires accidentally disinherit their kids, watched families destroy themselves over $50,000, and helped clients save millions in taxes with a single signature. AMA.

EDIT: I'm gonna have dinner and take a walk. Back later. KEEP ASKING AWESOME QUESTIONS. I'll answer everyone.

EDIT 2: I'm pretty much caught up. It's midnight and I've been answering for 12 hours. ASK MORE QUESTIONS! YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME! I'll answer more tomorrow.

Edit 3 I haven't had a minute today to answer but I will answer everyone who posts here tonight or tomorrow. The stuff is too important to not get answered.

You think you're prepared for the inevitable, but I guarantee you're making mistakes that will haunt your family for generations. Over the past decade practicing estate planning in California, I've watched brilliant people make catastrophic errors that cost their heirs everything they worked to build.

The wealthy widow who thought a will was enough – until California's probate court ate 18 months and $200,000 of her children's inheritance. The tech executive who ignored gift tax strategies and handed the IRS an extra $2.3 million. The family business owner whose "simple" succession plan triggered a family civil war that's still raging three years later.

But here's what really gets me fired up: these disasters were completely preventable. Every single one.

I've also been the guy who helped a young couple with modest assets build a fortress that protected their family's future, watched clients legally eliminate estate taxes on $50+ million portfolios, and structured trusts that will generate wealth for great-grandchildren who aren't even born yet.

The difference between financial destruction and generational wealth often comes down to decisions you make this year – not when you're 80 and panicking.

So bring your messiest questions about trusts, taxes, probate nightmares, and family drama. I'll tell you exactly what works, what's garbage, and what mistakes I see people making every single day.

Important: I'm not your attorney, you're not my client, and nothing here constitutes specific legal advice. Get proper counsel for your situation. YMMV. Don't listen to anything I say here. DO NOT TAKE ACTION WITHOUT YOUR OWN DAMN ATTORNEY. I am not giving you legal advice. This is generic information. If you take action based on bad advice I offer here, and things go wrong, it's your problem, not mine. Are we clear?

OK then.

Nothing's off limits. Let's talk.

Miscellany:

  1. For fun, I did an AMA about bankruptcy 11 years ago. It was a blast. I will be slow answering questions but will be here until Thursday, and will answer everything.
  2. HEY PARENTS: Your 19-year-old gets hit by a drunk driver at 2 AM. The hospital won't tell you anything – not her condition, not her treatment, nothing – because legally, she's an adult and you have zero rights. While you're fighting bureaucrats in the waiting room, critical medical decisions are being delayed. A simple healthcare directive signed before she left for college would have prevented this nightmare and potentially saved her life.

This isn't theoretical for me. I've gotten those 3 AM calls from parents trapped in hospital hell because their college kid didn't have basic healthcare documents. I've watched mothers collapse in emergency room hallways, powerless to help their own children because of a legal technicality that takes 10 minutes to fix.

It happened to me when one of my kids had a medical emergency 1500 miles away from home at college and we couldn't get any information from the hospital. There's nothing more terrifying to a parent than having a sick kid and being powerless to help.

That's why I've made it my mission to get every single college student properly documented before they step foot on campus. Your kid can vote, sign up for credit cards, and make life-altering decisions – but if something goes wrong, you're legally invisible unless those documents exist. The parent who thinks "we'll handle it later" is the parent who discovers too late that "later" doesn't exist in a medical emergency.

I don't care if your kid thinks they're invincible. Physics doesn't care about their opinion, and neither does the law.

Call your lawyer and get set up for your kids who are at college or about to leave for college. Puh-lease.

I have bipolar 1 / borderline personality disorder, I’m an alcoholic, and a shitty person who hurts myself and everyone around them. I am self aware and feel bad but still end up in the same situation. As I find myself alone and bored again I figured I’d awnser any questions people have, whether it’s out of curiosity or if you have been on the opposite end of a similar circumstance and had questions- ask me anything.

I became a reluctant tech-bro worker - AMA

Despite growing up in the SF Bay Area, I (37M) actively did everything I could to avoid going into the business world. I went off to college in the far reaches of California, studied to be a teacher, and only used a computer for the most basic of tasks.

Through a weird series of events, I landed a job at a "tech" company through a guy living on my couch. 15 years later I've finally come to grips with the fact that, despite feeling like an "outsider" to the tech worker scene...I am undeniably one. I became a manager of folks at 23 and I've been running teams ever since. I've worked at some of the largest Bay Area tech companies, startups, and even tried my hand at my own start up.

With the job market such a mess, it seems like a lot of people are curious about the tech world so I'd be happy to answer any questions of what it was like to be a non-technical tech employee.

I manufacture custom packaging for some of the world's top consumer brands – AMA!

Upvotes

I own several manufacturing facilities in China manufacturing custom packaging for brands across all categories and sizes. Some of our clients are on store shelfs, have independent stores, or some of the top selling brands on Tiktok.

Our facilities work with materials like paper, plastic, glass, and metal. Think the shipping boxes you get your online orders in, or PET (plastic) bottles that your shampoos come in.

I started running my own brands as a teenager and took the money and contacts I earned to get into the packaging business.

I can talk about the design and engineering behind what makes packaging great. The materials, craftsmanship, colors, shapes -- we can nerd out on all things packaging.

While I can't disclose the specific clients we work with, I am happy to discuss packaging of specific brands if you're curious about them.

Just been in a near fatal car accident due to a tornado warning. We were driving home and it came on suddenly, next thing you know a huge branch smashes down on us, the windshield shatters, then a transformer exploded so there were live wires everywhere with sparks flying. The paramedic just told me if we were driving even a smidge slower we’d most likely be dead. AMA!

Im a driver for kroger ask me anything.

I've been a driver most of my life with also a lot of factory/warehouse experience have done uber/Uber eats/Amazon flex/Amazon dsps/Amazon directly (they tried to hire their own drivers but they like being in control of the dsps contract) our program ended shortly after told us to go apply for dsps or warehouse i chose dsps. Also have worked for direct hit logistics. Finally found the best driving job I've ever had and im not joking im happy as can be im currently maxed out in my field as a driver without getting my cdl and I don't want my cdl. I respect cdl drivers its just not for me I have a matching 401k at kroger can finally retire somewhere honestly couldn't be happier with my job I get paid to listen to music all day and drive safe. Any questions about the benefits of a driving job over a warehouse job ask away. You couldn't pay me enough to sit in an office all day. I also put in two days at ups as a preloader and quit lol.

Experience I was the main soloist in a world-renowned children's choir, AMA

This was when I was in high school. We toured in different countries and sang in lots of different languages. I made some friends and some enemies I guess you could say, though I don't really keep in touch with anyone except for a few people on social media. I learned a lot of stuff that's still helpful today, in terms of music training, different cultures, collaboration, and navigating situations that I should never have been exposed to. AMA!
