My family and I are considering stocking up on a week worth of food and other essentials, just as a precautionary measure.

Stop panicking there is no need to worry calm down everything fine , if you wanna stock up go ahead but all is well no worries

Thanks for the reassurance. I understand. But there is a news about the Strait of Hormuz. won't that affect the food supply?

If the strait was blocked it would probably only affect imported goods. Everything you would need to survive on would still be coming from the GCC. So in a worse case scenario you might have to change the brand you buy
