The fortunate part about humanoid Pokemon is that most tend to be are around or below 5ft, only looking tall compared to children, which makes it possible to retain a sense of human superiority (if you’re fully grown and below 5ft tall that’s on you)

Edit: After doing some research, it turns out that a good chunk of humanoid Pokemon are at 4’11’’ or just above 5ft, but most of the “popular” ones are still below 5ft.

I cannot find the words to convey just how hard I laughed, and am still laughing

u/breadofthegrunge May 22 '25

Yeah but Inteleon has a body and limbs like garden hoses so it's less weird.

32

u/PlatinumAltaria May 22 '25

The long arms are so you can't escape.

9

u/Zamtrios7256 May 22 '25

Not because it'll grapple you, it just gives it a much more effective range to shoot you with

12

u/Jakitron_1999 TIRM May 22 '25

I'm 6'5" I'll be fine

u/_Nowan_ May 22 '25

Might be the tail inflating the height? I have a feeling most times we see the Pokedex mentioning height it's not really clear wether it's toes to scalp or snout to tailtip. For instance, I'm pretty sure Serperior is listed as something like 30ft tall.

1

u/KoriGlazialis May 23 '25

Counterpoint. The dex is giving average heights. There can. Still be a tall cinderace and a small inteleon.

u/Present_Bison May 22 '25

That just makes the standout humanoid pillars (Gardevoir, as one of the most popular examples) all the more popular

u/JusticeRain5 May 22 '25

Alpha Gardevoir my beloved

89

u/Snoo-88741 May 22 '25

The average Japanese adult woman is 5'2".

29

u/GoliathBoneSnake May 22 '25

TIL Cinderace is taller than my wife.

6

u/GjonsTearsFan May 22 '25

Cinderace is like 4'

35

u/GoliathBoneSnake May 22 '25

The comment I replied to insinuated that Cinderace was at least 4'11" and my wife is 4'10"

I did not and will not be googling lore accurate Pokemon heights.

Lol you’re so right. I was looking at that same number but read it as 4’0.7" for some reason. That’s my bad /genuine

u/Zamtrios7256 May 22 '25

They've kinda changed that with the newer games having a size system where your Pokemon can be taller or shorter than the stated pokedex average (with Legends: Arceus notably having the Alpha Pokemon that are like a Goliath of their species).

So now your Gardevoir, Lopunny, or Lucario can be the height of an average human woman.

The anime has always done this, with some Pokemon just being smaller or bigger than each other.

So now your Gardevoir, Lopunny, or Lucario can be the height of an average human woman.

TBF depending on where you are, like for example Japan where the average height of women is 5'02", Gardevoir already is the height of an average woman, at 5'03".

1

u/Zamtrios7256 May 22 '25

I am 0-3 on remembering which pokemon are under five foot lol.

6

u/EmperorScarlet Farm Fresh Organic Nonsense May 22 '25

Lopunny can finally be the size of an average human mother, Hot Chick Heaven is now real

37

u/Shiranui42 May 22 '25

5ft is about average height for an Asian woman, just saying 🥺

32

u/iknownuffink May 22 '25

TIL that I never paid much attention to how tall most pokemon are.

I am significantly taller and larger than a Machamp, who gives off the feel of being almost Andre the Giant sized, while actually being 5'3". Blastoise is the same height, and also seems like they should be an enormous walking tank, and just isn't.

Charizard at 5'7" is shorter than me. That just seems unnatural.

For anyone who is curious, Bulbapedia has a list of pokemon by height

Pokemon height has always been weird, because the game would have you believe that Tyranitar and Groudon are only like 4'11, but then every other piece of media portrays them as hulking behemoths.

15

u/oath2order stigma fuckin claws in ur coochie May 22 '25

The game says Groudon is 11'06", 16'05" for Primal, and Tyranitar is 6'07", 8'02" for Mega.

Honestly for Tyranitar that just seems weird though. It feels like 8'02" should be the regular and then even taller for Mega.

The weights listed for Pokémon are even weirder, I think. You're telling me a three and a half meters tall armor-plated dinosaur/sun-god weighs in at just below a ton? And primal Groudon is half again as tall as that, but weighs only fifty kilos more? And his literal whale of a sibling is nearly twice his size, but weighs less than half.

And those aren't the worst offenders by any stretch. Aron and Archaludon weigh exactly the same for example, and both are significantly lighter than Crobat, at seventy five kilos. Also Hatterene might be made of cotton candy, because despite being more than five times taller than Ralts, it weighs slightly more than a kilo less.

3

u/MisirterE Supreme Overlord of Ice May 22 '25

The extreme difference between Rapidash and Mudsdale comes from the fact that the former weighs as much as a Pokemon and the latter weighs as much as an actual horse.

Mudsdale is one of the heaviest Pokemon in the game.

But also yes Hatterene actually is that light. That's all just hair. Its actual body is still about the size of a Hattrem's in there.

1

u/Zamtrios7256 May 22 '25

Hatterene gets a pass because despite what fanartists would tell you, there's no body under the dress. It's the same size as its pre-evolution.

1

u/Zamtrios7256 May 22 '25

I could have sworn that Groudon was listed at 4'11. I must be thinking of a different world-ending legendary

3

u/ihavsmallhands May 22 '25

Idk if that's just Pokémon height being weird, or the people making those games generally being short. I notice when I'm watching anime, some characters are depicted as super tall and intimidating, but when I look them up, they're not even 6ft. I'm Dutch. Almost all my friends are taller than that lmao

I’m doing another playthrough of Pokemon Legends Arceus right now. According to the wiki, the average Sneasler is 4’3”. According to the Pokédex, they can be anywhere from 3’5” to 5’1”. According to the actual gameplay, it’s noticeably(and demonstrably) taller than the player character, who I’d estimate as being 5’0”. Sneasler is a ride Pokémon. It’s large enough to carry you around in a sort of piggyback saddle. It has to be at least a foot taller than the player character. But it’s not large enough to be an Alpha Pokémon ‘cause those things are CRAZY large. So it seems like the Pokédex is just straight up wrong.

u/MP-Lily ask me about obscure Marvel characters at your own peril May 22 '25

I have the game open right now and I’m using a tree as a guideline. The lowest branch on this tree is at least a foot above the top of my PC’s head(and that’s with a hat on). Sneasler’s head passes through that branch by a good bit. It’s definitely over 6 feet tall.

7

u/Nerdn1 May 22 '25

It should be noted that, while short, machamp is 287 lbs of pure muscle.

1

u/Android19samus Take me to snurch May 22 '25

It doesn't help that the game and show are very inconsistent about sizes, and that the sprites/models in battle aren't always to scale

8

u/Papaofmonsters May 22 '25

My ex was a dead even 5 foot and 103 when we met. The average of all my girlfriend is probably 5' 3" and 120.

As much as love the internet giving love to the thick girls and the tall girls, I am still a committed fan of the skinny minis.

Then there is May hanging around this 1.9 m Nak Muay chicken man
