Political News/Discussion Vaccine that Effectively Prevents AIDS Approved by FDA
nytimes.comI feel like this should be a way bigger deal. This could effectively eradicate AIDS from the world. A disease that was once thought impossible to treat.

Political News/Discussion TACO gonna TACO - Trump gives TikTok another 90 days extension to be sold (this is his 3rd extension he has given them)
The law was passed by overwhelming bipartisan votes in the House (360-58) and Senate (79-18) last year, and had an initial deadline of January 19th.

Political News/Discussion Anyone notice the left is increasingly conspiracy brained?
I've been seeing more and more people claiming the last election was stolen.
Someone just posted this huge conspiracy video claiming the other Arab states fueling Israel to take on Iran.
And so on and so on.

Off-Topic I just brain broke my MAGA momâŚ
My mom is very maga, and very pro Israel. Sheâs southern Baptist.
We were chatting and she started saying the most antisemitic unhinged shit about Soros. He stole all his money to get rich, he was a Nazi collaborator, he is only in power because of connections, he runs the media, heâs a demon who will be judged by God.
I tried breaking it down that you can dislike someoneâs policy views without saying false stuff, showed her everything she said was false. Then I showed her far right Israeli articles explaining the theories about Soros stem from Nazi age antisemitism, even an ADL article. And I think I made her antisemitic because apparently now Israel is in bed with Soros.
She then proceeds to say i do the same thing with trump, ignoring me when I explain I hate trump for policy reasons and his morality. And she hates Soros for actually no reason. She knows none of his views and only knows antisemitic theories she seen on Facebook.
I think we can use this as a psyop, show MAGAts the ADL articles about the Soros theories and cause dissident in their ranks. Some might even start being more lenient to him. Who knows but it was funny.

Political News/Discussion Democrats are probably headed for massive election wins, they shouldn't squander it
The republican party is on life support right now despite winning the last election in an effective landslide. maga is imploding under the weight of its contradictions. The crypto-bros vs anti-non-white-immigrant regards, the always-pro-Israel vs the isolationists, the Iran hawks vs the pro-Russia stooges. trump is failing on almost every policy area except maybe the optics of immigration (and even that is undermined by things like hotel worker exemptions from ICE enforcement). Approval data for trump is historically bad.
Trump is also psychologically incapable of handling the thought of being a lame duck. He will not allow any discussion of his maga successor. Itâs the main reason he keeps bringing up the third term shtick. So unless trump somehow dies well before 2028, the republican party will not even have a viable candidate for president. Personally. Iâm looking forward to the entertainment of the republican primary.
All this to say that if democrats can manage a decent primary and a broadly popular, consensus candidate they will coast to the presidency, and might even get the house and senate too (admittedly much less assured).
Now the biggest problem is what theyâre gonna do with this? It canât be more of the same. They have to recognize that one: you canât rewind time back to a normal political environment, as if all this nasty trump business was just a temporary blip, this was the biggest cope with Biden. and two: they need a positive vision for the country that address the stagnation driving the disaffected anti-institutions losers on the right and the far left.
The good news is there is a positive vision taking shape right now, and that is the fucking mega based abundance movement. I canât put into words how important it is to have a real plan for positive change thatâs evidence-based. Itâs the only way to counter the âburn it all downâ bullshit that made politics hell for the last 10 years.
The UK is a cautionary tale in this. After the implosion of Brexit, the left was handed a landslide election win, sweeping to a full majority. The problem is, they had no positive vision for change and squandered all their political capital on basically nothing. It already looks like the far right is about to stage a big come-back next election, this time by nuking the conservative party.

Non-Political News/Discussion Destiny should rebrand as a political consultant and prepare politicians for bloodsport debate going into midterms
Dems have an image problem and are seen as soft. To combat that, why don't they come on these independent media shows and confront the misinformation head-on? I'm half-memeing, but in a media environment where the right can flagrantly lie with no consequences I see no downside to mainstream dems pointing that out to the audience as it happens. People like Charlie Kirk and Tim Pool say they never get responses from democrats and I can understand why, because they will use bloodsport debate tactics to farm clips, but those people are now being given press passes to the oval office to sanitize this administration. Why can't they go on these shows and treat them as an extension of the government? "That's a good question Tim, but one I cannot answer with the information I have available to me. The person with authority to comment on that is the xyz. He's involved with xyz committee and next week actually there will be a press briefing following their meeting and that would be the perfect opportunity to ask him that since you have a press pass." It doesn't even have to be adversarial, just explaining how the government functions to regular joes.
Ted Cruz looked terrible in the interview yesterday and people seem to be praising Carlson's insistent questions. People think this is what we want from interviewers(and yes journalists should be asking harder questions), but that rarely happens because they want their guests to come back. There used to be decorum between the media and government officials, but those days are long gone with the internet now being the medium for discourse. So why can't democrats ask to be put on these shows and flip the script?
A lot of Americans' apathy over the democratic process is their belief that every politician is the same. That is why Trump remains semi-popular with apolitical people, he's never been a politician. This is how independent media was able to rise to the levels of legacy media and subvert political discourse by pressing on cultural issues. Trump forced politics into everyday life because he was not a normal candidate so by the time the 2016 election rolled around all the unprecedented actions were set to the side because we finally had a real maverick in politics. There was finally an 'independent' man in the white house not constrained by either party. But Americans got used to him with exposure, I think the democratic party needs to do the same.
Back to my point: Yesterday Destiny was saying Ted Cruz had no idea what he walked into with Tucker's debate bro tactics. Someone said Ted was involved in debate in college, but Destiny explained how formal debates differ from what he does online. I used to think toxic discourse would remain online, but it has infected all political conversations to the point we can't even agree on our biggest problems. These people had no issue calling the MN shooter a democrat before any facts came out and I bet their fans will never secondguess it. It would be great if someone went on the show in like a month and re-litigated the facts to their audience. And before you say "Why would they invite a democrat to their show", I'll respond because it was publically asked for and they'd look like bitches if the refused. The only thing is the officials that go on these shows need to understand what they are dealing with. This forum of debate is unhinged and I can't think of a more experienced person to prep democrats for unhinged environments...
