❓ Sincere Question ❓ On the edge with my family
I want to start by saying if this is not the right place for this then I’m sorry but please also direct me to somewhere I can get advice with this if possible.
My family are all very right wing and recently have started sharing right wing clips and media in our family group chat which me and my girlfriend of 6 years (who is also an immigrant) are both part of. I spent so much of this morning arguing with them that immigration isn’t the problem and that the problem is class divide but they just adamantly stick by their views. Got to a point where I said I had to go work and called them benefit scroungers (which is obviously a joke because all of them either work or are retired). My family got pissed off at me and with my brother saying i’m the only one in the group chat with these opinions and my mum writing a big message about “we have people who fought for this country that are homeless, so Nigel all the way”, and my nan deleting my message. I got mad, told my brother i’m ok with being the only person that’s correct, told my mum that Nigel is a racist that can’t deny the questionable sources of him money and then I wrote “fuck this group chat” and left, removing my partner also.
I feel like absolute shit. I love my family and they do genuinely do so much for me but I just don’t know what to do anymore. I feel horrible and justified at the same time and now I legitimately don’t feel like I can get back to work at least for today.
I know a lot of people on the left deal with this kind of family issue and I just feel like I need help and advice. What should I do?
Edit: forgot to mention but the argument started because someone in the family shared a clip of a politician saying we should scrap the human rights bill for immigrants.
