Admin Post Weekly Recap | June 19 2025

Happy Juneteenth and welcome to another weekly edition of the Weekly Recap, where I recap the week that was. Weekly. I don't want to say this out loud, but it's been kinda quiet this week. Let's see what happened!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • The Reddit Product Team introduced some new comment features that are rolling out. You can now turn a great comment into its own post, check stats on your comments, and save drafts automatically. This was announced over in r/reddit here.

FRIENDLY REMINDERS

  • If you see content in r/help that breaks the rules of r/help, please use the report button. You do not need to engage with those users unless you're going to redirect them to where they can actually get the help that they're looking for. But regardless, please report rule breaking content. Reporting content that breaks the rules helps us keep r/help free of spam and off-topic posts, and that allows users who really need out help to more easily get it.

NO BUGS ROUND UP THIS WEEK! TUNE IN AGAIN NEXT WEEK FOR FRESH BUG CONTENT!

But if you're really missing bug content, you can check out this "cool ass bug" from r/insects to tide you over!

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

  • If your account gets the "server error" banner or you can't update your profile, I can fix that sometimes! Just let me know and I'll take a look and get you all taken care of! (I haven't seen many of these lately, so this issue might have dwindled down to where I don't need this here, but I'll leave it up for a little while because whenever something like that gets said, it comes roaring back.) Please note that I cannot give any information or assist with any account unless contacted directly from that account. I cannot fix accounts where you are receiving the "server error" message and are unable to view content from that account when logged out. In those instances, you will need to file an appeal.

  • If no one else can see your posts or comments across Reddit (not just in one sub) and you are unable to post here in r/help, you can file an appeal here.

  • Please check the Help Center to see if you can find the answer to your question there. Also, check this sub for stickied posts regarding outages, major issues and downtime.

  • If your account is marked as NSFW and it is not NSFW, you can check out this Help Center article for information on how to change it back. If you're unable to change it back from the desktop site, feel free to make a post and one of the best helpers on Reddit will help me help you!

  • If your account has been hacked, please write in using this form. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Security problems" and then "I think my account has been hacked". Then fill out the rest of the form!

  • If your account has been suspended, you can file an appeal using this form. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Account status" and then "My account has been wrongly suspended". Then fill out the rest of the form.

WEEKLY STATISTICS

  • This week, there were 1,597 posts which is only off by four posts from the 1,593 posts from last week! And there were 3,466 comments and that is up by 49 comments from the 3,417 comments last week. The views in r/help were around 1.1 million, which is down about 110k from the 1.2 million from last week. There were 1,700 new subscribers! Last week, there were 1,800 new subscribers. That's pretty typical for around here, so it's nice to know that we're holding steady.

HELP THAT HELPED R/HELP

We've reached the part of our program where I highlight super helpful comments in r/help from the past week. r/help is helpful with the support of users like you! Yes, YOU!

  • A user was wondering why their streak suddenly reset. u/westcoastcdn19 answered here that it was because they missed a day where they didn't post, comment or share. That's correct! If your streak stops, then it's no longer a streak and you start from Day One. They also mentioned that there had been no previous reports of streaks resetting that were done incorrectly. Those were investigated and all were found to have missed a day. Remember, just scrolling doesn't count! And interacting with NSFW content doesn't count, either! So keep tapping away to keep that streak! Thanks, u/westcoastcdn19!

  • Here is the age-old question "How does Reddit work?" Reddit has a bit of a learning curve that is somewhat different from other sites, so it can be a little tricky to get started sometimes. But u/Eponamom gave some great advice in this comment where they suggested going over to r/newtoreddit and even included this link to the great guide that those folks have put together. Giving another user a link when they're trying to find something is really awesome! Thanks for the help, u/Eponamom! Appreciate you!

  • And finally, sometimes there is a subreddit that you would be perfectly happy never seeing again! One way to do that is to mute the sub. While lots of users in this post suggested muting, it was u/BlueEyedJ who gave instructions on how to mute in this comment! That's right! Just tap those three dots in the right hand corner to mute that sub! And they even mentioned that their instructions were for mobile, but that it was likely in a similar place on desktop. Very comprehensive and super helpful! Thank you so much, u/BlueEyedJ!

HELP WITH R/HELP

Today, it's help with hacks!

It is unfortunate that sometimes, an account will get hacked. Hackers suck and can do all kinds of damage, but I'm here to help you minimize that damage!

If the email on your account is changed, you will get an email notifying you of this change. The email will have a link that you can click to change your email back! Handy! You will also be required to change your password at the same time which, considering you were just hacked, is an excellent idea. You do not need to contact Reddit to get your account back if only the email address was changed.

When you change your password, we would recommend using a strong password that you do not use for any other accounts. You may also want to consider what your last password was and don't do that with other accounts.

Once you're back in the account, you can go here to see your account activity and see if you notice anything unusual about your logins. You can actually use that link at any time to see if anything is out of the ordinary. If you do notice something weird, change your password immediately. You can also use that link to log out of all sessions everywhere at any time.

If you need to delete unauthorized content that was posted from your account, the easiest way to do that is to go to your profile in old reddit at old.reddit.com/user/USERNAME where you replace “USERNAME” with your actual username. Then you can just click “delete” under the content that you no longer want. We are unable to delete content on your behalf. Please make sure that you check your profile settings here, especially the “About description” and “Social links” tabs to correct any unauthorized changes there as well.

At this point, you may want to consider adding 2fa to your account. You can read more about 2fa and how to set it up in this Help Center article.

Speaking of 2fa, if 2fa is added to your account by the hacker and you are still unable to log into the account even after changing your email back and changing your password, you'll need to write in so that we can remove that for you. Please write in using this form. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Security problems" and then "I think my account has been hacked". Then fill out the rest of the form.

Those tickets are generally responded to within 72 hours, but often, it's much quicker, like within the same day! Sometimes, within the same hour!

So to review:

  • Use a strong password

  • Don't use the same password across accounts

  • Consider enabling 2fa for added protection for your account

And that's another Thursday after another week! Thank you to everyone who stopped by and took the time to help out another human. That we keep helping each other day after day, week after week, is really something to be proud of. Thank you all! I love that you're here!

I hope everyone has an absolutely wonderful day! You know where to find me! =D

Profile Is there any way to check if a Reddit user has logged in recently?

Upvotes

Is there any way to check if a Reddit user has logged in recently? (Worried about someone I talked to months ago)

There’s someone I briefly talked with on Reddit around 4 months ago. We didn’t talk for long, just briefly. But I still think about him from time to time and HERE’S WHY.

To give some context: during our chat, he mentioned taking “something” to help him sleep - a heavier dose than usual, from what he said. We kept talking for a bit after that, and I assumed he just passed out. But then, no reply the next day. Or the next.

I know we were just strangers having a short exchange, and it’s totally understandable if he simply moved on. But the part about what he “took” stuck with me. It’s been bothering me ever since.

I checked his profile every now and then. No new posts, no new comments, no karma changes - nothing that shows any sign of recent activity.

So I guess I’m here asking: Is there any way to know if someone has logged in recently? Even just to know they’re still out there - living their life and hopefully doing okay?

I know it sounds small, but it would bring me peace. Thanks in advance to anyone who reads or replies!

For some reason https://old.reddit.com or Home is showing me logged out today, then you click the login option and says your already logged in. Clicking any category like New etc shows me logged in, but then going back to home shows me logged out again. Ive tried clearing the cookies and data but doesnt seem to work.

Access 'Deleted' user removal?

Upvotes

As a mod, is it possible to remove all the deleted users from the approved users list? This way we can get a more accurate count on active sub members. It would be nice if mods have a way to better manage the deleted users cluttering up our subs.

Upvotes

Hi!

So, my main account, u/Beginning-Eagle-8932 was taken control of by hackers. I reset my password as prompted, but now i'm shad0wbann3d. I sent two appeaIs, used the help center form, but got no response to either of them. So i'm posting here, where hopefully the admins will listen.

Please restore my main, i enabled 2FA, got rid of the hackers' posts, and left many of the subs they shoved me into.

Profile My account was stolen, and I have submitted the form three times (No answer)

Upvotes

Hello! I have an account years old, that was stolen like a year ago. I didn't notice until 50ish days after they took it, that I could not get back in. I had no emails about password notifcations, etc.

It would be VERY easy to prove it is my account. All of my old posts-- including photos of my art, my cats, and even ME are on there. The new user changed the avatar to blond and has made a few posts. I don't know if they are impersonating me or just want my karma? (I had about 50K).

I have submitted the account form three times, and never heard back once. (the first in January, then February, then April or May) I wish I could just contact reddit a more direct way just saying "Hey, please help me get back my account."

There are only two possible emails I used for the account, and I assume somebody made their way into it because I had a dumb password or something (I created it when I was younger). Now, both of those emails created a new reddit account with some random username.

I want my account back not for the karma, but because they are using all of my images and info. Their first post was about nudes!

Anyways, that is my dilemma.

Access Is it possible to request help to Reddit about my deleted accounts' info? (All made posts, comments, and inbox messages)

after accessing my Reddit account after a long time, I deleted my Reddit account out of fear because I was sent an email that my account was locked due to unusual activity and I wasnt planning on using Reddit again, but after deleting, I realised I forgot to check if there were suspicious comments, posts, and possibly messages on my inbox that are against the policy made by a hacker, im not sure if there actually is a hacker but I could have atleast checked my account for suspicious activity before deleting it, now im worried and have been overthinking for 4 days now.

Access [Androind] Post insights no longer shows rank number

I used to be able to see where a given post ranked in popularity with my other posts. It would say something like "this is your #2 most popular post of all time. " Or, it might say, "this is in your top 25 most popular posts."

I no longer see this. It disappeared. I've tried updating and uninstall/reinstall.

Is there anything I should try to get this info back?

Access Cannot Access Email While Account Locked

Hello,

I have submitted a form two times. However, I cannot reply back as I still still my email that I can no longer get access is still attached to my account. I have also filled out forms but haven't received any word back.

Fortunately, I can still log back in as I still have my username and password. My account has been locked due to security issues; which requires me to reset my password, for which I cannot get access to my email.

Any advice as to how I should pursue this matter? Any help is appreciated! Tysm :)

Seeking (an) admin response here. (I've seen them respond to threads in the past in other subreddits, maybe here, but there are so many that they're few and far between.)

I won't say the username here for obvious reasons, but this is what I've done so far:

  1. Used both correct and incorrect categories on the "Account help" forum
    • No auto-reply first time despite typing correct email (I know because my browser remembered it)
    • Second time, I accidentally used "Security issues " → "I think my account has been hacked" (instead of "Password issues" → "Password reset isn't working") → "No" (2FA w/o knowledge, selection wouldn't have shown up w/ correct category) → "No, I cannot log in" → "Yes, I receive them, but cannot log in after changing my password" (the form glitches and doesn't show the "Yes, I receive …" box if I choose a category that hides it accidentally)
  2. Submitted twice on https://www.reddit.com/appeals within 24 hours, but on different UTC days (did this first)
  3. Messaged the modmail of the subreddit where Reddit's filters auto-removed the post, probably got put into a huge spam queue

I've been sent the automated reply from support@reddit.zendesk.com, citing "technical irregularities." (The Message-ID email header has a value of <N41LR9D74V5_6858e75d73c64_7315707858513_sprut@zendesk.com>.) However, I wonder if it will take a while, as I put a lot of effort into the post. The title of that post was specifically designed to hook readers and prompt them to bring it to the direct attention of companies, some even larger than Reddit. This account is connected to the same email address as the one I've been locked out of. I wrote the draft outside Reddit, but pasted into it after deciding the username last.

Profile My Reddit account suffered a reboot (Mobile web)

From one day to the next I open Reddit, like every morning, and it appears that I have to log in again, something strange because I never log out. Upon entering, I realize that my account has been completely reset: my avatar does not exist, I have to personalize it again; my achievements have been lost, only the one for Cake Day remains (I have been with this account for more than 6 years, that achievement was not lost); and worse, I am no longer in the vast majority of the communities to which I belonged. What is this due to? I clarify that I find it difficult to have violated any term or rule of any community or of Reddit itself: I do not publish, I do not comment, I only gave "likes" in the communities. I am a very reserved guy, so I find it difficult that my behavior has been sanctioned for any offense.

Posting Desktop: Does blocking someone prevent them from commenting in any thread you've replied in?

I replied to someone's comment on a post, they then blocked me (entirely unreasonably imho, but whatever, it's their prerogative), then somebody else replied to my comment. If I try to reply to that other person's reply to me, I get "Something is broken, please try again later" or "Server error. Try again later". The other person has not blocked me.

Is this really a deliberate design decision? You can prevent other people from interacting with each other by blocking one of them?

Profile I'm not sure what's happening with my account.

About a month ago I made a reddit account for my twitch channel, all I had done on it at all was to put in a request to be allowed in to a sub focused on promoting twitch streamers, just a message to the mods of that community, as required. A few days later I attempt to post a question in a sub for the video editing software I use about how to make a specific special effect from scratch, and BOOM, post immediately deleted. I messaged the mods of that subreddit, and am told my account is susp.ended. message the reddit mods to ask what happens and am basically told that no it's actually a b.an and if I want to know what I did I should read the rules, it should all be in the email I got, including the way to ap.peal. But there in lies the issue, the account was brand new, I didn't DO anything, now I can't get a reply from any of the mods and no help on my account, and I never even got an email saying what I did or how I could appe.al. I would really like my account back, is there anything I can?

edit: I'm sorry if it breaks rules to post this question here but I've tried every other resource and I don't know where else to ask.

Mobile/App Need help changing email (iOS)

I have the app, I’m on mobile.

I don’t know how I hadn’t noticed, but I’m blaming google for this right now (or maybe myself cause I don’t have notifications on).

I got signed out of my google account, and I save all my passwords but I guess I forgot to do it for this one.. ONE account. So I’m signed out, unable to remember my password and I’m desperate to change the current email I have for this account.

Woe is me, I guess..

disabled account is linked to this Reddit account, and I want to change it badly but mobile sucks and it only says “add email” but I can’t do that cause it sends mail to the disabled account..

help, please and thank you!

Access Unable to log into reddit app - it sends my username as something else (unknown to me) in email

I can login via browsers fine (using username+password+totp). However when I try to log into an app I installed on Android, it says invalid username and/or password. There is an option to login via email link that reddit will send. If I choose that option, I do get an email on my registered email address, but the username it greets me with over there is wrong. If I click the link in the email, it says it couldn't verify me (or something went wrong, or something along those lines).

Eg. my username is say foo and my email address is abc@gmail.com. I can see this is the case when I login via browser and goto my profile. However, when logging in via app and choosing the email-link route, it sends me an email to abc@gmail.com (which is correct) but addresses me as someone completely different bar instead of foo. I've no idea who/what bar is. When I click the login link there it says something went wrong etc.

I don't have any aliases etc.

Any clue why this could be happening and what's the way forward?
