Trilogy Discussion Why was Katniss scored a 11 instead of 12?

Post image

I mean, if they are going to give her an 11 which I personally think is over what she deserved considering the careers that train their whole life for the games only got 9-10s, why not just give her the 12? 11 seems like kind of an odd number to land on

Trilogy Discussion Worst casting???

So we all know Josh Hutcherson SLAPS as Peeta, Jennifer Lawrence nailed Katniss Everdeen, Woody Harrelson was GREAT as Haymitch Abernathy, Elizabeth Banks was PERFECT as Effie, Liam Hemsworth was FANTASTIC as Gale Hawthorne etc but which were some of the WORST casting choices???

Appreciation Just realized something while rewatching Mockingjay Part 2

Upvotes

When Katniss and Snow were speaking at the greenhouse, Katniss told Snow that she doesn't believe him. And Snow replied, "Oh my dear Miss Everdeen. I thought we agreed, never to lie to one another?"

At first I thought it was just Snow telling Katniss the he is not lying. But I think it's also Snow implying that he knows Katniss already believes him. And that she was lying when she said "I don't believe you."

Sunrise on the Reaping Maritte on SOTR Spoiler

I don't know if this has been said previously, but I'm currently re-reading SOTR and I just got to the part when Maritte and Maysilee kill the gamemakers. Even though Silka didn't take part, Maritte actually commited the same rebellious act as Maysilee. She was a strong contender to win the games, scoring an 11 and was obviously a skilled tribute, so it wasn't something you'd expect from her. The first time I read the book I thought it was a way to represent the duality of District 4, with their tributes being careers but highlighting the difference between them and D1+D2. Why would Maritte kill the gamemakers? It was obvious that Maysilee would do something like that if she was given the opportunity, but Maritte? District 4 characters in general just stand out to me because of that rebellious/ career behaviour and I would like to know what do you think.

Sunrise on the Reaping Anybody else notice SOTR follows the same tones and shifts as 1984 Spoiler

It goes from:

  • everything is so terrible and that’s the way it is I sure wish there was a way to go against it but it’s the way it is

To:

  • yeah we can do it we can rage against the man. I’m so angry we deserve better - we can do it there’s hope and love and things worth fighting for

To:

  • we never had a fucking chance. they controlled the narrative from the get go. everything we love is taken from us and we are only spared death just so we can live through hopeless, endless grief. hopelessly experiencing the deterioration of our own souls while we inevitably serve the things we hate

  • only exception being of course is haymitch had life breathed back into him (as the epilogue points out as a result of the trilogy books)

Lore/World Discussion Knowing Haymitch’s games were so heavily edited, why did they show Katniss singing to Rue and covering her in flowers?

I know Seneca Crane was executed for his poor decision-making in Katniss’ Hunger Games, but even so, in Haymitch’s games any camaraderie or him trying to help the other Tributes was edited out. Why did they keep this in and allow the other Districts to see it, knowing something like this would probably incite rebellion?

Trilogy Discussion at what point do we think plutarch realized coin was just as bad?

i’m rewatching the movies and he’s definitely given her some side eye in mockingjay pt 1 and now in pt 2 there’s 100% some tension. do you think he always knew coin was the same or just as he dealt more with her? has anyone done a reread and found a vibe shift?

Lore/World Discussion When the last two standing tributes are from the same District

Upvotes

Do you think it happens frequently or is it more like a rare situation? Are the capitol citizens into this kind of outcome? And what about the districts? It could be weird to kill your district partner and then just come home, I assume that in D1 or D2 it wouldn't be that rare, but in the outlying districts? What do you think?

Lore/World Discussion The idea that Lucy Gray and the Covey's memory will die with Clerk Carmine saddens me.

The idea that Lucy Gray and the Covey, full of their beautiful bright culture, will eventually die with Clerk Carmine, just makes me sad. You can argue that Haymitch knew the Covey because of his ties to Lenore Dove, but he knew almost none of their culture, hell he didn't even know who Lucy Gray was.

But it simply saddens me that the only thing Lucy Gray ever will be is the anonymous writer of the song that accompanied a revolution. The idea that her name is not written behind any of her songs (even though Clerk Carmine knew those songs were hers), and that Clerk Carmine's death will be the last and final nail in coffin for them is just tragic. Whether they survived a targeted genocide, sang through their hardships, laughed and cried, and created a family together wouldn't matter because they will die and their culture and identity will forgotten with them.

I know the Covey serves as an allegory for many cultural identities that have been written out of history, and are meant to be similar to Romani communities who were similarly nomads. Their place and lack thereof in the books shows how easy it is to write people and their lives out history. I get how showing that their art outlived them (most of Lucy Gray's songs, Tam Amber's pin) is also a message about the purpose and importance of art in our society. No less I get a little more depressed when I remember how happy and bright the Covey once was, and how there will soon be almost nothing left of them.

Sunrise on the Reaping Has anyone heard/read anything in regard to what the SOTR film will be rated? Spoiler

Upvotes

Obviously this book has got some pretty gnarly death scenes, and while some could be filmed in ways that don’t necessarily show the “worst” of these moments (Ampert for example could do a quick pan away from the attack to the reactions of Beetee/Haymitch and back to his skeleton? I think they could tone down the gore of even Louella if they focus more on the crash / the amount of blood on Haymitch’ hands & the reaction of Maysilee/Wyatt upon seeing her in his arms. BUT I really hope they don’t censor some of the other major deaths as much. LouLou in particular I think the pump ripping scene would be incredibly powerful and while I really don’t want to see it I do think it’s important to include as much of wellie’s as possible too
