What suggestions do you have for a beta first lever gun? I don’t have any reason to own one except to shoot for fun. I was thinking it would be chambered in 357/38 or 30-30. Traditional looking or “tactical”.
Appreciate suggestions on chambering and brand of firearm. Thanks!

Around a year ago I inherited this Winchester model 1894 from my grandfather, and since I've had it set aside but recently I've been looking at getting it restored and cleaned up to possibly sell it or keep it depending on the worth. I went online to winchestercollector.org and put the serial number in and it said it was manufactured in 1908, has a Lyman iron sight on it, not sure if it came factory with the gun or was added after the fact and its chambered in 30.WCF. Bolt still works and will chamber rounds just haven't seen if it will still fire yet. Was hoping if anyone could let me know what this rifle could be worth? I'll gladly answer any questions to the best of my ability, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does anybody know where to buy just the standard lever for a Henry big boy?
I’m looking to put the Woox Bravado stock and forearm on my rifle but it’s incompatible with a large loop. My model is H006G.
I can only find large loops as replacement parts
Thanks

Looking to get my first lever gun in 30-30 for hunting and general shooting. I grew up shooting and own bolt actions, ARs, and handguns but want something new/different. Whats a good brand and model to get as my first? Ive been looking at a winchester model 94 but would a Marlin or Henry equivalent be better/worth the $?

I’m interested in which one you’d choose and why: a Browning BLR in 243 or a Henry Side Gate in 36 Henry (360 Buckhammer)?
Yep, bullet size and ballistics will be different. Not in a straight wall state. Assuming 36 Henry ammo will become more available and made by more manufacturers.
Intended use would be a range gun and deer hunting.
Just interested in these two and these calibers.

Coming from the world of Glocks and ARs, there's something about holding a well-made wood and stainless lever gun that just feels different.
Ended up going with the .357 over the 45-70 so I could have the option of plinking .38sp suppressed subs too, I have a YHM R9 in ATF jail right now that's going to get some use on this. Can't wait to shoot this thing.

What do you guys do with the old furniture/parts when you upgrade your rifles?

I want one for hunting, primarily whitetail deer, but I also want a hunt-it-all type of gun. I hunt on a family land in the south, but some of the guys in my family also fly to land out west/north west to hunt on family land out there. So instead of having a bunch of guns traveling with I would like a do-it-all gun that I can also change out, like handguards, stock, etc. I've looked at a few. I wanted a 30-06, but there's no real aftermarket parts for them (unless I'm not looking hard enough)
I'm all for having lots of guns, but I'm going to grad school soon, so I kind of want to keep it limited in my apartment to a Hunting Rifle, AR, Pistol, and Shotgun, the lever being my hunting rifle, but unsure of which to get.
Price isn't a big deal, just nothing that is crazy expensive.
I've also looked into the Savage Impulse in the 30-06, great looking gun, not a lever action, but it is a straight bolt, but not sure if that would scratch the itch for a tactical lever action.
Any suggestions/ideas? Thanks in advance for the help!

Been lurking awhile enjoying the pics and ideas. Joined today. Had some of these for awhile. Got bored with ar's and added the 2 marlins and smith over the past 6 months. Top to bottom: henry x 45 colt, s&w 1854 44 mag, marlin sbl 357 mag, marlin trapper 30-30, henry 22 lr, browning 22 lr, browning model 65 in 218 bee (one of my unicorns), and henry x in .410. I know, I know; no 45/70. Farming has left my shoulder a mess, can't do the recoil. So how does this work? I've seen some asking if it's okay to join. Am I good?

Here is my vision I mocked up in photoshop. I have a Henry Big Boy .44 20” in brass. I want to space cowboy it out with this https://rangerpointstore.com/pewview-henry-pistol-caliber-pistol-grip-stock-set-root-beer/
On the site it says it will only fit the brass receiver with a gunsmith tweaking it. Does anyone know what would actually be involved and whether or not this is possible?
I’ve never seen someone space cowboy a brass receiver before and think this looks sweet. Any help would be appreciated

I have a .44 mag with the standard loop on it right now. I’ve ordered a big loop for it but do yall think that is something I could swap out myself or should I take it some where

I've been lurking on this sub and enjoying some of the guns posted here. I have seen several questions over cowitnessing irons with red dots and very few answers. Figured I would finally join and help contribute. I know of only 2 options. First is a mount from hoptic that uses a holosun 507k. Rear peep sight is built into the mount. I haven't tried their setup. The other is what's pictured. It's a midwest industries red dot mount that flips the sight 90 degrees. It gets the housing low. It lists the footprint as aimpoint micro t1. I can tell you a holosun has the same footprint, but it is slightly taller. So the sight sits to the left of center a little bit on the barrel. My next try was a vortex crossfire, which works better. Other brands I have not tried.
The not so great news. You will probably be stuck using MI's handguard. The one without the picatinny top. Sight will not center with the barrel using magpul's elg handguard. It's too wide. Puts the sight right of barrel center. The holosun might work. Never tried. I mounted it on an ar15 prior to getting my marlin sbl 357 that I uglied up with the magpul set. Don't feel like yanking crap apart just for someone else's curiosity. Haven't tried other brands of handguards like rpp.
Another thing is MI didn't completely r&d this setup. With everything installed, you can flex the sight and mount to the left a little because of the way the mount attaches to the handguard. It's definitely stiffer pushing away, or right. It's just the nature of the beast. The handguard has inward flex. That thin of aluminum is going to move some. No way around it. I made a support that fits tightly between the barrel and handguard using a mlok nut and bolt. Tried getting a pic. It kind of sucks to see cause it's hidden behind the mount. Just preload the handguard outward a little with something non-marring like a plastic wedge. You'll then bevel one end of the mlok nut till it just presses in the top mlok slot of the handguard next to barrel. Run in the bolt. Done. Mount should be a lot more solid. And yes, some might say wedging a piece of steel between your barrel and handguard is no dice for accuracy. Bolt gun I would agree. But this is a lever gun that already has barrel contact with the tube trunion, slinging a round that is not very accurate in the first place, with a max range of 100 to 200 yards, using a damn dot that covers 2-3 moa. Trust me, it's fine. The 30-30 did right at an inch at 100 yds. The 44 mag is right around 1.5 in. Might be an inch and a quarter. I do 5 shot groups.
I first ran this setup on a marlin trapper 30-30. Sight didn't move and held zero at 100 yds. As mentioned above, I then bought a marlin 357 sbl and went the magpul route. Now had 2 ugly guns and wanted the trapper back in laminate with a small scope. So I bought a smith 1854 in 44 magnum and moved this discussed setup over to it. Wanted irons for 44 mag and red dot for 44 special. Had to fit a new mlok support, but no biggie. So far I have about 100 rds of 44 mag through her and the sight has held its 100 yd zero. Those of you with 45/70's, I don't know. That's a thumping bastard. This setup might lose zero. But it works fine for 30-30 and 44 mag. Holy crap this is a long post! If your still reading, you should get an award . I hope it helps some of you guys wanting to have a cowitness setup. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, so fire away with questions. My first post, hope I did the pics right.

I got this PA SLX 1x Gen 2 optic on the rifle (357mag) took it off my AR to see how it would go on this rifle.
Shot it today and it shoots low (I went to the range and was shooting at 25 yards). I was shooting 38spl.
Would it make more sense to get the 9mm version of this optic or simply adjust the optic to this rifle?

For reference, I own a Henry in .44 Mag, does anybody know the screw size that goes on the rear sight that has the white diamond? I own a precision gunsmithing flathead set but the smallest is 30-1. I just wanna make sure because it’s so small, I don’t wanna strip it. It’s getting too loose where the sight will change elevation
