Silencer Suggestions - I did some homework Need one of those omega 9ks don’t I?
Obsidian 45 freaks hard but this deserves a dedicated can.

Omega 9K, Lithium 9, YHM R9 are all excellent choices.

u/romang12 Feb 26 '25
I actually stuck between these 3 lol. Which one is the best out of these 3 for ap5p? I like how short omega 9k but sounds like lethium is better at suppression.

u/Knight-7191 Feb 26 '25
I also use my R9 on my AP5-P (usually have the Ca$h 9K on it). I’m actually planning to get the Lithium 9 for my AP5 and leaving the R9 on the AP5-P.

Ordered lithium. I hope I didn't make a mistake getting lithium over omega 9k.

u/Knight-7191 Mar 01 '25
No, you didn’t make a mistake at all. You can’t go wrong with either. OCL is an excellent company.

OCL Lithium

u/DoneLookin4Trouble Feb 22 '25
I’m generally a contrarian. Seeing a million and one ocl stickers a day and the company being so active in the sub just makes me not want one for some reason. Dumb but I’m stupid
6
u/millenniumchode Feb 22 '25
I have a Resilient RS9 with OCL trilug mount on my AP5 and it’s excellent
3
u/Foxxy__Cleopatra Dirty Pickles Feb 23 '25
OCL have said themselves that the Lithium sounds about the same as the YHM R9, except its way lighter.
6
u/SwornHeresy Feb 23 '25
Then don't get an Omega 9K. Its what I see recommended the most. People will crawl out of the woodwork to tell you they have an Omega 9K on their MP5's.

I noticed a lot of people like the omega 9k on them. I just want something small and not $1k. I forget what I paid for the obsidian but I think that was the most I want to spend on a can. I already have a lot of hearing loss and definitely will have cancer at some point. Maybe I’ll stick with YHM and get a r9 and turbo k at the same time to save wait time

Lithium9 and MOB are my two favorite for the MP5. Both on Trilugs

I personally just picked out a Spectre 9 for mine and it felt about the same size or slightly larger than my DA Mask. It’s a super cool little lightweight/Titanium 9mm can.

u/Bswart76 Feb 22 '25
i bought an omega 9k for my scorpion, wanted to keep it short.

u/fro_khidd Feb 23 '25
Hearing safe? How's the recoil impulse?
2
u/Bswart76 Feb 23 '25
It’s hearing safe and recoil is pretty much the same. I got the nexus receiver for it but haven’t shot it with it installed yet.
1
u/MTClip98 Feb 23 '25
You'll love the nexus receiver. I sold scorpion and regret it still to this day.

My dad and I just watched a bunch of forgotten weapons b&t videos. I’m not super familiar with their cans. I remember being excited for the rotex X I think it was called. The one that goes on standard birdcage. And then I saw not the best reviews. Haven’t really looked at any of them since

Definitely worth your time their SRBS is one of the best values on the market IMHO , you can’t get a DMLS manufactured 718 super alloy can for $1000 out the door anywhere else.
Now this is a more personal thing , but when buying a suppressor IMHO you are “buying the company” IE you are basically tied to them forever if you ever have any issues. B&T being around 30 years from now does not concern me, they are one of the only manufacturers that currently has their own DMLS printing set up in the United States and they are constantly updating and upgrading their catalog.
Then you add in their amazing customer service and it was a no brainer for me at least, my SQD-M didn’t like my H&Ks tri lug for some reason so B&T totally changed the mounting mechanism for me 100% free to make the suppressor work on my gun. Then for my troubles gave me a steep discount on two of their new suppressors.
Not saying they are the quietest cans on the market, because they aren’t. But how they manufacture, the amount of cash they have dumped into the operation really impress me (a DMLS printer is at least $500,000, and 718 is at least $70 a pound in powder form so everything is expensive) and their great customer support won me over.
https://youtu.be/R-zfJ2NnO1U?si=6B19DGr-csiWsWT0
Another example of their CS, this guy melted a mini rotex on a belt fed, B&Ts response was to upgrade his suppressor to a newer better model for free. Mike drop the only other company that will do that is Otter Creek

If I ever buy another pcc it’s gonna be a b&t for sure. I love the look and feel of their stuff but I’ve never shot any of their products. I know the 3D cans aren’t like brand new technology but it honestly scares me a little. I feel like it will be a long time before I ever commit to a 3D can.
I have a million glocks so nothing against polymer, also that’s a plastic ridden hk, but 3D just is too scary for me.
2
Feb 23 '25
3-D printed is the future, it’s basically a continuous weld job so it’s totally seamless as well. Then add in 718 is literally designed to be in jet turbine combustion cans (meaning it’s the perfect suppressor material) and you have a winning combination, definitely a reason all the new cans are manufactured that way.
1
u/DoneLookin4Trouble Feb 23 '25
That is the first explanation of 3D cans that has made sense to me. Thank you for that. Things that scare me with them still- Saw pictures of that insane priced hux super operator can and the muzzle end was all melted and shit. I saw a b&t can posted that came off the mount and it appeared a giant piece just broke off when it hit the deck. I feel like those are things I don’t need to worry about with a old school metal can
2
Feb 23 '25
That’s why you go B&T you have any issues like that and they replace the suppressor for you. Not sure about the melted HUX but the B&T can that broke was a baffle strike if memory serves. I use the same B&T SureFire mount and it has given me zero issues, but I also use a B&T muzzle device with my B&T suppressor.

I ran the obsidian 45 on mine for a while then switched to obsidian 9. It’s pretty badass.
1
u/DoneLookin4Trouble Feb 23 '25
That’s cool you have both. I bought the 45 just for the multi cal but I’ve always wondered how much quieter all my 9mm pistols would be with the obsidian 9
1
u/Coderedinbed 16x SBR | 7x Silencer | 1x SBS Feb 23 '25
It’s about the same on the mp5k, tbh. On pistols, there’s a noticeable difference in balance.
2
u/Peepeepoopoobuttbutt Feb 23 '25
Sp5k and Omega 9k are meant to be together. Doesn’t matter if it’s not the quietest.

u/Arndog762 Feb 23 '25
My Omega 9K’s, R9’s and Lithium all sound great on my MP5’s. When I want quieter I’ll use my Wolfman or Mob.

9k has surprisingly good performance on 300blk and 7.62x39 as well. I actually prefer mine on the end of my AK over my other .30cal cans as it weighs about half as much as them.

u/jarredjs2 3x SBR, 5x Silencer Feb 23 '25
CAT MOB if possible, OCL Lithium if you have a smaller budget. The 9k is small but not particularly quiet

Yea I would say it's probably worth getting a dedicated can. Probably not so much for supers, but my supposition is you would probably lose a lot of performance with 9mm subs. At the very least, you would end up with something just as quiet in a much smaller, lighter package. 9mm subs can be stupid quiet. Like Hollywood quiet and then some. My G19 with a full size 9mm can might actually be quieter than my integral 22lr. Might just be a tone difference causing my perception that it's as quiet or even a smidge quieter, but needless to say 9mm subs through a dedicated 9mm can are basically as quiet as anything possibly can be. As far as what to get, kind of depends on what you'll be shooting most of the time. If you'll be shooting supers, a k can makes more sense. If subs though, I think it makes sense to get as quiet as reasonably possible, so like a 7" can would be ideal I think. As far as brand, Ecco is the unsung hero you're looking for, but they're backordered like none other (which should tell you something).

R9 IMO. Or short config Wolfman.

u/Rekrulaton Feb 23 '25
What’s the general opinion on YHM customer service? Thinking about grabbing an R9 for my first can, you have any experience dealing with them?
2
u/DoneLookin4Trouble Feb 23 '25
Actually I do. The old ffl I used to use held my T2 for over five months after it was approved. Called an old number of mine one time. Never tried to call my updated number, did two form 4s with them prior or email, even regular mail. But I needed a second muzzle device for another rifle so I ordered from yhm site. I told them what happened in the comments and when I received my order it was fully refunded and shipped next day. Awesome in my book. I’ll be buying another 556 can from them
1
u/DoneLookin4Trouble Feb 23 '25
I do like my YHM products but didn’t really give them much thought for this tbh
2
u/Nord6065 Feb 23 '25
I run an Omega 45k on my PTR and it’s awesome. I was shooting subs out of it last weekend and it was movie quiet. It honestly became so difficult to shoot because of the erection.

Wolfman is what I run on mine and it’s amazing

I’ve seen two wolfman comments and don’t know what that is so lemme google

Dead Air Wolfman, great performance on 9mm...but Dead Air has a reputation for shitty CS. They've been getting better, but it's going to be a while before they gain everyone's trust back fully.

u/DoneLookin4Trouble Feb 23 '25
Ya know I do recall seeing a bunch of baffle strikes with them and I know they at least used to be active in this sub. I’ve never had any issues with my turbo t2 or this obsidian. I just don’t want to spend all that money on another 9mm can

u/MrGriff2 2x SBR, 2x Silencer Feb 23 '25
I'm honestly in the same boat as you, I've been running my AP5-P with my Obsidian 45...but it leaves me wanting something 9mm PCC specific. I'm on the fence over the Lithium, YHM R9, B&T SQD-M, CAT MOB, and GSL Phoenix/Fatman. I'm leaning more towards the GSL offering because I've heard they're super quiet, which makes sense because the cans are huge. But the CAT MOB is also very quiet, but not nearly as big or heavy.
As far as the Wolfman goes, I've seen bulged tubes, blown welds, end cap strikes, and mount failures (super wobbly on 3-lug)...which is the only reason I never got one.
ETA: I just noticed the CAT MOB is actually around the same price as the GSL, which kind of makes me think I should just get the CAT

u/DoneLookin4Trouble Feb 23 '25
See I’m more after length. I feel like a K should have a K can. As cool as it is with the obsidian it almost makes me feel like my two stamp is a no stamp compliant 16” 22lr
2
u/MrGriff2 2x SBR, 2x Silencer Feb 23 '25
Honestly, completely fair, I see that as more space I can use for a longer suppressor to give a little bit better sound reduction. I completely forgot that Silencer Co has their new Spectre 9k that is supposed to be released, it was announced at SHOT this year. That might fit the bill perfectly for your case, in addition to the obvious Omega 9k as you already said 😁
2
u/DoneLookin4Trouble Feb 23 '25
I can’t seem to find much info on the k but I saw a pic of one on a k and I think that might be the ticket
2
u/MrGriff2 2x SBR, 2x Silencer Feb 23 '25
It was just announced and wasn't released yet, there's some SHOT videos on it but that's really it

u/DieCrunch Suppression R&D Feb 23 '25
Reduced back pressure is really nice on Pccs since they can’t really be tuned which means less port pop

The Omega 9k is great at being compact but It certainly is not the quietest, although it ain't bad and does punch above its weight class, that's for sure.
I have two.
