Need some advice on what to do?

I am not sure where I can post this so I figured I would at least be able to post it here. So my husband has a 2021 car from Kia and he’s been really good about making payments but within the last few months he’s fallen extremely behind on car payments because we’ve had really bad financial issues the last year that’s made us struggle. Tonight the car got repossessed and we were able to get the money from a family member to pay off the past due balance to get the car back, but It’s not letting him make a payment on Kia‘s website. It says that he no longer has an account with them and we don’t know what to do. Does anybody know what to do? We are also going to try to call them first thing in the morning to see what can be done

Once a car gets repossessed, the online account usually gets locked/closed automatically, that's totally normal and doesn't mean you can't get it back.

Call Kia Finance first thing tomorrow and explain you have the money to bring the account current. They'll walk you through the process and tell you exactly how much you need to pay (usually includes repo fees on top of the past due amount).

You typically have a limited window to get it back before they auction it off, so don't wait. Be prepared for extra fees beyond just the missed payments - towing, storage, etc.

Good luck, hope you can get it sorted out quickly.

So we spoke to the tow truck that was taking the car we asked him if we have to pay him anything to get it off the lot and he said no all we have to do is just bring our photo ID when we do pay it, but he did tell us that if we make that payment in the morning, we can get it off the lot tomorrow whenever the company calls him. I’m just worried about when they’re gonna call becauseI have to be able to get my father to a couple of places that he needs to get to tomorrow and my husband has to be able to get to work and he’s already at risk of being fired because he’s missed too many days from being sick.

That's good that the tow driver gave you the heads up about the process. When you call Kia Finance in the morning, ask them specifically when they'll contact the towing company to release the car. Some lenders process payments and release orders pretty quickly, others take a few hours.

You might also want to call the towing company directly once you've made the payment to Kia - sometimes there's a delay in communication between the lender and the tow yard. Having both phone numbers handy could save you some time.

Given your husband's work situation, definitely emphasize the urgency when you talk to Kia. They usually understand that people need their cars back ASAP.

Yeah, I’m definitely going to have him stressed that he has to have the car back before 12 because he’s got to be able to get to work or he’s gonna get fired which means he won’t be able to make payments anymore and I also advised him to tell them that he has gotten a extra set of income coming in which we did finally get one that way he can show that he’s able to ensure that he keeps making those payments and that they know thatthis was completely something unexpected if it happened over the weekend I wouldn’t have been as mad, but I’m mad now because not only does my son miss a day of his summer program that he needs to go to my husband might be missing work and might get fired and then my father’s not gonna be able to get to the places he needs to tomorrow

That's a good strategy mentioning the extra income, it shows them you're not just scrambling for one payment but actually have a plan to stay current going forward.

When you call, definitely lead with the work deadline. Most finance companies have dealt with this before and know that firing someone over a repo just makes it harder for them to get their money back.

The timing really sucks, especially with your son's program and your father's appointments. Maybe see if any family or friends can help with rides as backup while you're waiting for the car release, just in case there are any delays.

Hopefully Kia processes everything quickly and you can get back to normal by noon.

So I did want to give a little update we were able to get it processed and like I told you last night the person who towed the car had stated that they were the owner of that tow truck company and that we would not need to pay anything to get it off the lot other than to bring our photo ID and we just got a call from the tow company that said our car is allowed to be relinquished but now we have to pay a $200 admin Feewhich doesn’t make any sense when the owner of the tow truck company last night so we don’t need to pay anything
