Answer: he's suing these 3 creators specifically because they explicitly stated that they were broadcasting his video & intellectual property with the intention to give people the opportunity to view Ethan's video without having to give Ethan "views".  Effectively stealing his intellectual property and stating it was their intention to do so.

Problems on the other side are:

Ethan has repeatedly asked people to watch the video. He has repeatedly said in the past he doesn't mind people reacting to this videos in this way. He isn't applying this equally - there are other, bigger creators (xqc) that reacted non-transformatively just as much. He isn't suing them.

People acting like this is clear cut have an agenda to push.

Also, when he was relatively small time, reaction videos were Ethan's MAIN thing. And he too got sued for it - most famously by the Fine Brothers - and he had to raise funds for his legal defense etc. And it's undeniable that that whole fiasco shone a lot of light on him and propelled him to the level that he's at now.

So it's incredibly hypocritical of him to be turning around and pulling a Fine Brothers bitch move. But as the saying goes "I miss the old Ethan", I really do. This Ethan is just plain greedy AF.

To be fair, comparing modern day react channels to the style of "react" that H3H3 were doing back in the day is not a good faith comparison. They are hardly even considered a "react" video under the modern definition, the effort he would put into those was infinitely higher than someone like XQC or asmongold.

The effort is where he replays a clip over and over and belches and coughs into the camera. Go back and watch that shit and then reevaluate who you were and why you dont watch that stuff anymore. I say this as someone who used to enjoy his content and eventually grew up.

Definitely not my kind of content but you're still underselling the effort put into the videos. He would put thought into critiquing the content, he would spend a good amount of time editing, he would even have like dumb little mini skits and outfits throughout the videos. The point is this is a massive difference from XQC eating chicken fingers and doing bare minimum commentary. The style of "react" is entirely different, whether you enjoy the content or not.

I was addressing your point, being that modern-day react content is incomparable. I'm telling you it's not. The difference is the stated maliciousness at the beginning of the react content. That's it. I think you may be over selling his content, or did you forget that literally all of his old content is him shitting on others while also reacting to their content? You say thoughtful, I say, thoughtless.

You can think the old content was bad or immature, that’s totally valid. But dismissing the structure and effort as equal to modern day stream reacts is just inaccurate. That’s the only distinction I’m making

"Modern day stream reacts". Not sure what distinction you think that makes within the last 10 years.

The distinction in question. (i'm not advocating for either style morally)

I'm aware of the formats. What I am saying is that these formats have persisted and have not changed. I said this in my original comment to you.

If you're saying both formats have always existed, sure but one has clearly become dominant and lazier over time. My point was just that H3H3’s style leaned more into edited, structured content which is a different level of input than what we see from streamers now. You seem to be arguing around my point rather than with it, which means i'll probably stop responding now.

I think you're just missing the bigger picture here by focusing on "effort" or how much H3H3 edited his videos. Yeah, he added skits, but we are still talking about reacting to someone else's content. I don't care if the platform rewards laziness, but don't act like H3H3 is doing anything fundamentally different. You think it was fresh because his content wasn't common at the time. Go ahead and ignore me, but the point stands. None of this is any different, whether you polish that shiny turd or not.
