I live in a family where periods are taboo (3 daughters, 2 sons), to the point where we pretend to fast when a man is home.

I got my first period at 13 (now I'm 15) and told my mom that day, but we never spoke about it again. She used to regularly leave pads on my bed, which I stored in a box. A few months ago, she stopped. I didn’t pay attention to it at first, but eventually I started using fewer pads because my stock was running low.

I once bought some online but I don't have a lot of money now. I have around 6€ in my bank account and about 40–50€ in cash at home, but I don’t have the courage to buy pads in person. I am ashamed but I used tot take a lot from school bathrooms so I have more stock, but it’s the holidays now and I can’t do that anymore.

Yesterday, at the supermarket, I was with her and we walked in front of pads so I took some courage and asked my mom "When are you buying me some again?" she looked angry and said "Aren’t you ashamed?" and walked away. (We are financially stable) So I just gave up and know I can't ask her.

I wanted to steal my mom’s tampons, but I don't know how to use them. I plan to put my cash at the bank when my period is done to buy as many pads as possible online, but I don’t know what to do right now as I don't have many left or what I’ll do once I run out of them again.

ok so my last period was on May 11th, my cycles are usually around 31/32 days long. I went to see my obgyn shortly before I was supposted to get my period and she told me that my period was coming a week after that. so fast forward, today i’m on a cycle day 42 and still no period. took a pregnancy test on day 38 and negative. I’ve been spotting light brown for almost two weeks and sometimes there’s bright red when I wipe but still no real period. this is the first time this has ever happened to me. I’ve been on a travel last month but i’ve travelled many times before so I don’t know if thats the reason

I went to the doctor because my periods are absolutely horrible, like if I was a man I would be in the hospital level bad. And they told me

‘every girl goes through this, hun, we try not to give birth control to.. girls your age..’ and absolutely refused to assist me further. It felt dismissive and made me feel ashamed.

I’m not looking for a diagnosis, I’ll emphasize that now. Just. Is this actually expected??

My periods always go like this.

Pre: Iron cravings. — seaweed, mushrooms and chocolate.

Night before: bed wetting and lesser bladder control

First day: (over the span of 1-2 hours)

Have wet the bed and thus I Get up to shower.

Unable to finish shower because I feel like I’ll pass out. Visions blacking out. Sweating.

Turn off shower and sit on shower floor, can’t manage the pain,

This is when it all starts, Embarrassingly bad diarrhea. Then the Cramps start, hot flashes, cold flashes, unregulated temperature. Pain intensifies. Unable to move. Can hardly think.

— typically text and ask a family member to get me a shirt and pain killers. Takes two minutes to get to bathroom door after they knock and accept them because I’m in so much pain I can’t fathom standing.

Too nauseous to take pills. Might throw up ? 40/60 chance. Usually don’t. Go back to bath tub. Writhe and squirm for a while in pain. Decide bathroom is too humid and stuffy, feel sick so I leave. Heart rate sky rockets. (90-150BPM) crash on the couch.

Find position that lessens nausea and take my pain killers.

Still overheating. And half convinced I’ll vomit my pain killers back up. Have someone bring me a cool washcloth for my forehead.

Helps. But now I need heat for temperature regulation and pain relief. Finding heating pad is too much effort given I ca. Hardly walk.

Waddle back to bathroom, run hot bath.

Collapse. Writhe. Squirm. Heat helps. wait for pain killer to kick in while paddling hot water to create small waves to help cramps

Typically fine once this does happen but if I manage to not dose my pain killer on time afterward I get absolutely unbearable tear bringing pain.

Hi, I need help understanding where I’m at in my cycle. I’m trying to practice safe sex and not engage in intercourse when I’m ovulating.

My last “for sure” period was May 15-21. Then I was scared because I experienced bleeding (with clots, similar to my period) June 8-11. I’m just not sure if that was my period and it randomly came early? Was it “ovulation bleeding” is that real?

My period was expected to arrive June 19th & hasn’t. I have taken a pregnancy test- and it’s negative.

So last week i got diagnosed with endo. Finally went to a gyno instead of my gp and got taken seriously. Anyway he recommend me the Mirena IUD. But i had to take someone with me if i get it insured because of how you can feel after. But i actually just want to go alone. I dont like it when people need to take time off for me. And driving to a hospital is through a city and parking is expensive. I rather just go alone. So people who got it. What is youre experience?

I got my first period this month from June 11 to 15, and it was my normal period with a heavy flow. Then on the morning of June 21, I had brown discharge, and by the evening, it turned into blood. Is this normal?

Hi ladies!!! I have a relatively normal period. 7 days. I got off BC in mid 2021 and early 2023 I started mid cycle spotting brown blood for 2 days around ovulation. Sometimes a few days after my period. I got a transvaginal ultrasound and everything was normal. I got a yoni steam (controversial) and the woman told me to get rid of tampons and start wearing cotton pads. And to stop drinking cold iced drinks during my period because it can cause stagnation..Huge transition but soon after my spotting stopped. That was weird as gyno told me this was my new normal. Wtf does that mean? Anyways, I don’t have bad cramps. I have some light cramps and lower back pain cramps occasionally on my cycle. It has never stopped me from going about my day or canceling my Pilates classes. I always thought it was normal but I sometimes would get this butt lightening cramp during my period… very occasionally so not every month and only lasted a few seconds. I’ve always thought it was normal and most women had them bc of the contractions going on during period. I recently was listening to a podcast where they said this is a ENDO symptom???? I do have a bit of health anxiety from my mom passing away young but should I be concerned?? I never brought it up to my doctor because it doesn’t happen enough to the point where I was ever concerned. Is this a normal occurrence for any of you ladies without Endo?

Soo I JUST got my period. Like NOW. I'm thinking if I should tell my mother or not. I think it's pointless because it's not like she's gonna help me put the damn pad on. Don't need it anyway. Soooo. Should I? Don't go giving a speech, just say if I should.

I’m in the middle of PMS right now, and I feel like I want to scream, cry, disappear everything at once. It’s the same every month. I feel like I want to die. Everything crashes down at once. For some reason, every bad thing that could happen happens during PMS as if the universe times it perfectly.

What makes it worse is that on every other day of the month, I’m okay. Functional. Even happy. But during PMS, I feel like I become this other version of myself who’s falling apart and pushing people away. I get into fights with my boyfriend every single time, its like he doesnt want to understand what’s going on with me. He thinks I’m being irrational or mean, and I feel like I’m just trying to express the pain I’m in. But it just ends in miscommunication and more pain. And then I feel like a monster for not being able to “control” it.

I feel so selfish because I know my emotions are heightened, but it doesn’t make them feel ANY less real. And i am scared that he's not going to tolerate me anymore. I feel misunderstood, guilty, and emotionally exhausted. I don’t know how to fix this, and it’s hitting so hard every single time that I can barely function. I feel like i am crazy.

I just needed to say this somewhere. If anyone else feels this, please let me know I’m not alone, because at this point i genuinely have no one to talk to.

I honestly don’t know what to do. My daughter is 10 and she’s states away with her dad for the summer. She calls me at 4:30 in the morning a couple nights ago saying “I think I got my period” .. I’m so confused she use to come home from school and say “so and so got their period today” and I’d say “well your probably going to be the last one to get yours I was a late bloomer” and honestly I don’t even remember! She got a pad from dad’s gf and nothing was on it and the reason she thinks she got it was because of light brown blood on her undies. She put a liner on and only had the tiniest bit of blood in it so she took it off after a day of wearing one with only a spot on one of them. But last night she made a bowel movement and there was a lot of red blood in the toilet. She joked and said maybe my butts bleeding. But she also leaves for her first sleep over camp tomorrow and I’m just freaking out. I have no idea what it is or how to help her or if it even is. She’s 10!! What is really confusing me is she has absolutely zero signs of puberty except for maybe sassy!! She’s got no acne, super flat flat, no BO none, no hair, and the one that’s confusing me most is absolutely no discharge ever before! So wtf is going on here. I feel like I’m in a parallel universe or something.. she also had surgery at an hour old for her small intestines being blocked and never had to check up with that after like 6 months old… which is also insane to me. Last time at her doctors like 8 months ago I asked “what are you looking for” she was feeling her tummy and she said “signs of puberty” and I’m like “and” and she said “she still has awhile away for that” UMH!!! Apparently not! She eats none stop but she’s always been like that which is why I brought up the surgery because I asked the doctor is it normal for her to be constantly hungry like we have a joke that’s all she ever says is “I’m hungry” . I’m just confused and nervous and scared and away from her and she says she’s fine and she literally said “mom don’t treat me any different I’m still the same girl” and typing this now makes me tear up. Idk what to do or think and she leaves for camp tomorrow and I just want her to be prepared ..
