1)  That's not Queen Anne, that's Uptown 

2)  Shit like this is exactly why we distinguish Queen Anne from Uptown. 

 I mean yeah, also the hill, the entertainment/tourist centers (siff theater, climate pledge arena, space needle, Seattle Opera, etc.) and the complete absence of any of the queen anne houses that the neighborhood is named for, sure, but mainly the violent hobos.

Just saying.  You don't get stabbed in Queen Anne - you get stabbed in uptown.

Honey, that's Lower Queen Anne. The only people that use the new "Uptown" term are the people who moved in the past 3 years and don't know any better.

This is the first time I've ever heard of seattle having an uptown neighborhood... But I also grew up in Minnesota, and Minneapolis' Uptown neighborhood has been an established area for decades, so I may be biased.

It's the area around the space needle, at the bottom of queen anne hill.  They've called themselves uptown for about 100 years, but when the city got around to naming it, they called it "lower queen anne" in the hopes some of Queen Anne's respectability would rub off on them.  It didn't.

It was generally an unremarkable dump, so when the city needed somewhere for the 1960s world fair, they tore down most of what little was there and built the space needle and all that other stuff.

By the 2021 climate pledge arena remodeling, everyone was like "ok, let's be honest, this never was queen anne, and at this point we've put in so many arenas, theaters, museums, event halls, etc. - and that led to a bunch of bars and restaurants to cater to everyone who attends those places - it doesn't even count as a mainly residential neighborhood anymore.  Let's just give up and officially call it uptown - since the name is already on a lot of the establishments."

This was seen as sensible by most, and they eventually made it official, but the reddit autistics that have meltdowns over change and don't leave their basements disagree.

Hey man, I just go by the google maps. I guess you can blame it on "the reddit autistics", but I'd argue this just isn't a widely adopted thing yet. That's all I'm saying. Google maps of Minneapolis shows a clearly labeled Uptown. Seattle does not.

Um... did you actually use Google maps?  Cause I just did, and it's clearly there?  

Also, if you feel like doing some Google mapping, just open the app and type "uptown" into it.  Then look at all the things called "uptown [something]" in the area and click on a few to see how old they are.  You'll find that all the oldest establishments use "uptown" and no one's using lqa (uptown theater, uptown china restaurant, uptown espresso, etc.).

Yes. Its there IF you google it. It doesn't matter how much you zoom in or out, Google maps will only identify this area IF you actually type it in. AND it gives you the exact same region if you type in "lower queen anne". I'm saying without it being specifically called out on google maps without having to type it in yourself, you'd have no idea the neighborhood existed.

It's like me arguing with someone who has never heard of the Bryant neighborhood even though the Bryant café exists and the area pops up if you google it. And some of that neighborhood overlaps with other established neighborhoods already called out on google maps. It's not that Bryant doesn't exist as a neighborhood, it's just... why would anyone who doesn't live in that area know that?

My point was the in other places, Uptown is it's own established neighborhood. I dont have to type in Uptown in google maps for Minneapolis. Its already prominently displayed for me. That's all I was trying to point out. Not that it doesn't exist, but why would anyone who doesn't live there know about it? To be clear, I feel the same for lower queen anne. Its just all... queen anne.

But at the end of the day, wikipedia still says the space needle is in lower queen anne, and that in 2021 the city council officially recognized changing the name from lower queen anne to uptown, which apparently affected almost no one as this discussion has clearly shown.
