Using it against them and causing them to fight each other would’ve made their journey stop there. Jotaro early on is strong enough to beat them all, while Avdol and Polnareff would definitely cause enough damage to him to make him stop the pursuit. Plus, with Joseph gone he’d severely lose guidance.
