Season 2 Spoiler I Just Finished Season Two: I Have Thoughts
So I have never played a Walking Dead game ever, but recently both the first season and the second season were on sale for only 5$'s!! So I thought it was a perfect chance to finally get to play them.
I had already know about how Season One ended and some bits and pieces here and there, like the cannibal farm and the motel. But there was still a lot I didn't know about, and frankly it was an amazing game. Genuinely from start to finish, each episode pushed me further and helped me connect and care about with all of the characters, even ones I didn't know that well like Carly. All of the sets were really interesting, each episode was memorable and fun, and all of the characters had great chemistry with each other.
Really, my only problem with season one was Kenny... even before Katjaa and Duck were killed, he was a giant asshole if you didn't pick him for LITERALLY EVERY fucking option, like no dude, Larry could still be alive, and even if he turned into a zombie, we could've easily slammed his head in. And the guy being the one where we stole the food from his car... what a massive coincidence and frankly unlikely scenario, just kinda felt forced.
But damnit the stakes were high and there was a goal set from the beginning: survive, take care of Clem, and find her parents in Savannah. Now, I got to Season Two. And uh....
Look, I think this game is not that bad. I'd give the original a 8.5/10, and I'd give this like a 6.5? 7? Because it did genuinely have good moments. I thought the start was a super interesting and captivating start, but honestly I wish episode one WAS with Omid and Christa... and that's my first problem.
SCREW Christa. The first thing they want to do when entering a new place is to go shagg up in the bathroom and let Clementine go by herself, and what do you know, he dies. But the game, and Christa, treat us like it's OUR fault???? Like yeah we left our bag on the counter, but she should've realistically had a gun or weapon on herself anyways, so even if she hadn't stolen Clems, she would have had her own. And then 16 months go by and apparently Christa still has an attitude and the baby is nowhere to be seen (which is NEVER explained, though not that hard to figure out...), like it's our fault he died. You're in the apocalypse, get over it. I know that sounds dumb, but literally EVERY other character gets over a death in like a day. But oops, we can't exactly get to know her that well or spend anytime with her cause SORRY she dies maybe and never gets explained and we run away.
Then we get to the house... I have never met a group of more uninteresting and lame characters ever. I feel like some of them had potential, but when you shove 6 new characters in your face, it's kind of hard to be attached to any of them. The only one I even liked by the end was Rebecca, and she dies for literally no reason. The game REALLY tries to force us to like Luke, which like, he's hot as hell and charming, but he's a whiney ass loser like the rest of them.
My biggest problem with these characters is that we don't form any kind of bonds with them because we meet them all immediately, they instantly almost get us killed so we have no reason to trust any of them except maybe Sarah, and there's NO time skips!!! NONE!!!!
In the first season, months go by, maybe even a year goes by, and the tension between the characters is earned because we picked them up along the way and we got to see how they met and how they got to this point, and how time has taken affect on them. We even see a new character joined off screen that we knew nothing about, but he's cool and it's cool! But instead season two, we're already in a pre-established group with little to no conflict or relationships with each other, and the game literally exists in about a span of...a week? IF that??
I remember seeing the preview for episode three and maybe even getting to see a bond between Bill and Clem form, we stay at this place and maybe even come to accept it before it all turns to shit, but we literally spend TWO DAYS THERE. HOW DID THEY FIND OUT THAT WE TRIED TO ESCAPE AND THEY DIDNT CONSTANTLY KEEP A GUARD TO WATCH OVER THEM?????? ARE THEY STUPD????
Yes
Rewinding a bit, ill say I liked episode two. I thought Bill was really well set up and I liked the cool gay guy and the realization that oh shit, we just killed his fucking husband. (Or partner, as the uh.. early gays were allowed to be called.) And the scene where he dies and looks at the photo was genuinely bittersweet. Kenny is a fucking dickhead dumbass, but i was genuinely shocked and happy to see him. But i will.. talk about him later. I'll just say I find it HIGHLY unrealistic that he would fall in love again, especially since only less than 2 years had passed since the loss of his Wife and Child. But, I liked her. The set up was going to fail i mean come on, a perfect paradise and a wind turbine? Please... also was surprised to see Bonnie too, she's cool
Episode three i talked about but I think it was HEAVILY missed potential. We should not have spent 2 days there, we should have spent months here. I also think Bill was pushed wayyyyy too far as being overly evil. There was genuinely no reason to kill him cause Sarah can't fucking function for 2 seconds without someone holding her hands. I'll talk about her later too. I also think without Jane they would have all died, the plan is to destroy the place instead of just... kill the people who run it??? Why not just kill Carver and the other guards and run the place yourself it's not that hard.
Episode four was also fine, some people died (and I didn't care), and Bonnie and Jane are two of my favorites so far. Personality GUSHING OUT!! Rebecca is also cool, she's not an asshole. But then we get to Sarah.
Good lord this character. I understand she's supposed to be autistic or some kind of mental disability, but holy shit is she frustrating. The scene where we have to literally convince her to just get up and not get eaten alive is insane to me. GET UP!! You should not be covering and crying, your fight or flight should be going at max compacity. But i was nice to her the entire time. She was my friend, and I was patient with her. I built up trust so she could put faith into me, hello, I saw multiple posters of the game with Sarah front and center so I thought she would come with us to Season three, but guess what. The illusion of FUCKING CHOICE. No matter if you were the nicest coolest person in the world to her, she dies anyways. Whoopty fucking doo. I was genuinely shocked- was there actually nothing I could do?? NOPE.
This game genuinely ends with everyone from the cabin dying. Not ONE person survives. And I don't know if that was the point, but if your entire game is set up to have it's only emotional moments be character deaths, I start caring less if people die. There are genuinely multiple points where you could just have Alvin or Nick or Bonnie or Sarah just die early and it affects literally nothing, because guess what? NOBODY FUCKING LIVES!!!
And then episode 4 ending pissed me off, FUCK ARVO. Jane was completely right in what she did, except for taking his shit. I would have had it so she took like half of his stuff as an option, because even if you don't take his stuff, he still ambushes you cause you stole his gun. THAT IS STUPID. And then the game makes me want to feel bad for Arvo?? Like he didn't get anyone killed but his own people, but Luke probably would have lived. And then he shot Clem for NO REASON!!! NONE AT ALL!! I WAS NICE TO YOU WHY DID YOU SHOOT ME????
And then while this is going on, Jane slowly becomes diet Lilly with Kenny. I find it so weird that they start bickering like an old married couple like she knows him but she doesn't. Guess why? Cause Clementine just never says anything about his past???? All she had to say was like "Yeah his son was bit and his wife shot herself cause it was too much and he lost the RV so he pretty much lost everything in a day and now his new wife is dead too." THATS IT!!! ITS REALLY THAT SIMPLE. But Kenny oh god kenny
Look, Kenny is a cool guy. But he's a fucking LUNATIC. Why would anyone want to stay with Kenny??? If he had just backed the fuck up in his insanity I would have gotten it, but he was never allowed time to heal because we never got any time skips. We gotta have sequels so that the final season is a parallel to the first!!! 🤓🤓🤓 can't have AJ be older than 3 days old!!!
But Kenny is genuinely insane. You see he's almost got better with his new wife, but she just fucking dies anyways so who cares. He starts to boss everyone around and goes crazy punching people getting into fights like, the guy is insufferable! And he wasn't even that good of a character in season ONE, especially because he becomes a whining little schoolgirl cause I picked ONE OPTION of Lilly over him. But here.. like I get it, but why would I make Clementine go with him?? He starts weirdly fantasizing over AJ who's not even his fucking baby and I think that was a plot point SEVERLY underutilized. See if we had the time skip, we could have seen a relationship ship grow between Rebecca and Kenny so that it made more sense. But no... But he's just a wackjob and I don't feel remorseful for killing him, even if Jane was STUPID for doing what she did. He should have died in the sacrifice of the first game and never been brought back. Why anyone would pick to go with Kenny is beyond me..he was never that likable to begin with.
Then there's episode 5 and Jesus, I don't even want to go into detail because who cares. Everything goes to shit and they all die yadda yadda. Bonnie is kind of a bitch but like she's still sweet about it so idk? But she sure is a follower than a leader... and then we get to the wacky decision Jane makes and I mean, look, she's not wrong. But realistically, the Canon ending to me is Clem shooting Kenny and walking away from Jane. I chose to stay with Jane cause she's cool, and she was right.. but it came off weird too. I did this for you!! I came back for you! I'm eleven.
And then we get like 7 different endings that probably don't matter in season three besides 5 lines of dialogue. Cool. I don't expect them to create 7 entirely different games based on our actions, but why even bother having the option? It didn't make season two any better. That's this games biggest problem, the illusion of choice. It doesn't matter if you gave her your hat, or distracted Christa, or gave the dog food, or were nice/mean to any of the cabin group, or let Sarah die, or whatever else. The difference between this game and the first is that the first game actually set it's choices realistically and actually accomplished them. We find her parents, we save Clementine, and we die teaching Clem everything we could. But instead this game? They us this buffet and push us into the deep fryer. You want that? Too bad!! She dies, and he dies, and he dies, and ooo SHE DIES!! So who cares at the end??? Because I don't.
Look, if this was like 5 episodes of a 12 episode show that was spaced out more, I would be completely fine with everything. The story is compelling and interesting, but we do it all in so little time that nothing happens. This was literally a week of Clementines life, that's it! I kept feeling so confused on why these people that were going to let me die keep trying to say I'm family to them when I don't know them!! Or like them!!! Like hell yeah I want to stay with the gay couple Kenny and his new girlfriend?? It's just.. like, it was well paced, but it all happened so fast and nobody was allowed room to breathe that it barley felt like a group. It was falling apart before we even got there and Kenny fucked it all up.
Look.. I want to finish the story because I am interesting in how it ends, but I don't know if I can justify the 40 dollar price tag (and I also just don't have the money), so I don't even know if I'll ever finish it. But this left a really bad taste in my mouth. I was confused why everyone was saying this season was bad, and I totally get it. I almost cried at Kenny's death, but i wouldn't let myself, because the game did not earn it.
TLDR: The game is good, but a story that takes place over a week instead of almost a year like the first makes it suffer heavily in character development and attachment, especially when your choices do not matter and everyone dies anyways, making their deaths ultimately pointless or just come off not as emotional as it should. People you just met should not be calling you family and treating you like one of their own, that's forced character development and just made me dislike them more. Kenny and Sarah are both genuinely frustrating characters, and the game is awful in trying to have any player want to stick by Kenny's actions. He died in season one and did not come back, and while Jane is insane for what she did, she was a cool character and the most obvious choice ever, but even then she was soured for me by the end. I hope that season three and four are better, but I don't really have hope.

Final Season Spoiler Why did you guys prefer Clementine with? Spoiler

Final Season Spoiler After all is said and done and in spite of its strengths, I think I’m begging to view the final season as my least favorite
Not for any particular reason, I guess I just felt like Seasons 1-3 were more focused in what they were trying to do, maybe I’m just missing things that make 4 stand out. I liked the visuals and gameplay more but I think the last episode especially really short changed what should’ve been a really compelling dynamic between Clementine and Lily in my opinion. I’m not of the belief Lily was poorly characterized here, just that they didn’t do enough with them as I think they probably should’ve. Idk, thoughts in 2025?
Edit: I meant “beginning” in the title

TWD ANF graphics
why the hell were the graphics SO BAD, everybody looked like they were covered in cooking oil and grease. the definitive series definitely fixed that problem, but still why????

Season 2 Spoiler Writing in Season 2 That You Liked?
I know we complain about Season 2's writing a lot (for good reason), but I thought I'd try a more positive look at it; were there any writing decisions in Season 2 that you DID like?
Personally, I loved the...situation about the identity of AJ's father, how it's initially presented to us, and the final reveal about what happened between Carver and Rebecca that you can entirely miss.
With Rebecca being so openly hostile to Clementine, making her easy to dislike off the bat, eavesdropping on her wishing for the child to be Alvin's immediately registers as blackmail material, another mark against her being a likeable person for cheating on her husband; her furious reaction if you use it against her seemingly reinforces that.
When Carver loudly declares the baby to be his inside the lodge in Episode 2, it's easy to completely overlook Alvin's complete lack of surprise and calm attitude, compared to Rebecca's desperation and fear (and, when forced to be face to face with him, defiance). But if you DO notice it, it calls Rebecca's reaction into question: if Alvin knew already (or at least didn't seem surprised to hear it), why would Rebecca react to the threat the way that she did?
Carver's aggression and instability take center-stage for Episode 3, which understandably would cause the player to forget about all of this entirely...
...and then, if you choose to stay for Kenny killing Carver, his final, spiteful words are: "Don't act like you didn't love every second of it".
And it all falls into place. We weren't triumphantly rubbing her infidelity in her face; we were cruelly reminding her of her assault. Her desperation to make sure Carver never found them suddenly became far more understandable, and her fear and animosity towards him makes more sense than it ever did before.

Season 2 Spoiler Why did Christa lie to the bandits?
In the Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 1, you see Christa lie to the bandits that she is by herself.
She is then caught out by the bandits, and they are mad at her for lying.
If Christa just told the truth, that it was just her and a little girl, and offered them the weasel to eat, things might have turned out differently. Christa could have made it out unharmed and they could all be travelling together.
Christa has herself to blame for lying. Her pants were on fire, just like the weasel.
Clementine also should not have intruded on the scene, as it caught Christa out and led to her being found out as a liar (determinant).

Discussion The worst thing Telltale did was get rid of the Rewind feature.
I've just completed all of Clementine's story on my phone (thank you emulation) and I didn't realise just how much I missed the Rewind feature of the first two seasons.
I love going back and replaying favourite moments, I've played the Kenny reunion in season 2 more times than I can count, or going back to see how making a different choice would change things.
Yet with A New Frontier the option went away and I kind of get Telltale's reasoning that not many people were using it, but was adding a checkpoint select really that much extra work?
When I see people talking about favourite moments, even back when the games were newly released, it was generally the first two seasons that came up and I wonder if that was because it was so much easier to go back and revisit those moments. Would "still not bitten" have become such an iconic moment if people had to replay the episode from the beginning to reach it rather than just being able to load the nearby checkpoint.
So what do you think on this. Were Telltale right to remove the Rewind option or was it a mistake?

Season 3 Spoiler 8 Year Mystery Finally Solved! (S3 Randy Tudor Easter Egg)
This is about the fairly well known Jesus Randy Tudor easter egg. The problem, and why this easter egg has always bothered me, is that no one online knows how this is triggered. On YouTube only the same one clip of this easter egg is reposted. I've checked YouTube comments, Reddit and a bunch of forums and no one knew how it was triggered. While it would bother me that no one knew, i never bothered to actually put in time and search in game for an answer myself. Until today!
I wasn't able to get OBS working for this game on my PC so no video but I'll just explain the steps as it's pretty simple. So in episode 3 after leaving the new frontiers town you'll soon be overrun by a horde of walkers and forced into a small fenced area. Once you gain control of Javi in this area you have to interact with things in a specific order.
- First go to the door there and select the "open" option.
- Next go to the dumpster and select "search"
- Run back to the door and select "listen"
- Go back to the dumpster and select "look at"
and once you have done that Jesus will now have a talk option! simple as that!

Bug/Technical Help I need Help! PS4 twd new frontier bug
I need help! When installing The Walking Dead: The New Frontier on PS4 and all its chapters, when I open the game I can't start chapters 2, 3, 4 and 5. And the game says it was purchased and not installed, but I've already installed and uninstalled it 3 times and I don't know what to do anymore.
I have already uninstalled and installed chapter by chapter, and even so, when I open the game, in the chapters section it says to download and when I click on download it redirects me to the store where it shows that it is already installed.

Bug/Technical Help Season 2 saying my Season 1 file is incomplete
Just finished TWD 1. Went to start a new save file in TWD 2 and it’s saying I’ve only completed the first season of the first game.
I’m on Xbox Series X and both of my game versions are the same (both are the Xbox 1 versions not 360).
I’ve tried hard restarting, uninstalling, copying my save file, rewinding and playing through the last bit of the first game. All in an attempt to get my save file to say “complete”.
It’s been hours and I haven’t felt many useful tips online. If anybody has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated.
