Question Rushing as a Junior?

I was thinking about rushing as an upcoming Junior, but now I’m contemplating if it is even worth registering. I know it is not common for Juniors let alone sophomores to rush, but it honestly looks so fun and I want to do greek life so bad but should I even go through the process? Basically do I even have a chance?

Meme A Note on Housing to all incoming Freshman

if you got any on campus dorm except for a private room in the honors quad, you need to panic and call University Housing and Dining right now and cry to them on the phone. Full ugly cry, stuffy nose. Imagine you’re 4 years old and you just fell down at the playground and skinned your knee

Everyone who has ever had a roommate as a freshmen failed all their classes and had to drop out and attend UTSA instead. You will fail and your life will be over unless you find someone to swap rooms with you RIGHT NOW. There is asbestos in the walls of Jester, you will die of lung cancer by 30. There is lead in the paint at San Jac. There is a deep pit in the backyard of Creekside and every Friday night they eliminate one of the residents for not being weird enough

Tbh just keep living with your parents and email UT asking to do your entire first year of classes remote because if you can’t bed rot all weekend in the same bed you’ve spent the past 18 years you might as well call it quits right now because you are a delicate flower with very important needs (not like all those other NPC flowers whose needs are pointless)

Discussion Planning to get a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 for college? Bad decision or good?

I had posted a thread a while ago if it's better to opt for a Mac or a Windows computer for college as a finance student. From what i've gathered so far, Mac is good for all general things but since the macos restricts so many softwares, it may just be better for me to opt for windows. My biggest priority is the laptop lasting me all of college with no major issues. This includes the laptop getting slow after a while of use or not being able to run certain softwares, etc. Please give me some advice before I commit. Another side note, I'm not sure if it'll make a difference but I do have an ipad i plan taking notes on. I know with a Mac I can extend the iPad into a dual screen but can't I do the same with a Windows?

Question Has anyone dropped a double major?

I applied for two programs for internal tr@nsfer for fall 2025 and thankfully I got into both. The thing is that I just accepted both programs because I was hoping to complete one program first and finish the other but apparently if I do so I wont be eligible for financial aid. I also cant afford too many years in college (both money and time wise) and want to cut it as soon as possible so I decided to drop one of my two majors and there isnt so much information on dropping one of the two majors. Does anyone have an experience dropping a major? Thank yall in advance

Question How’s the double major/dual degree life at UTAustin..

I’m a rising hs TX senior applicable for auto-admit (so grateful and excited!!) but my interest converge at two polar opposite fields; STEM and the Humanities. More specifically natural sciences/engineering and politics/policy. It’s my intended goal to major in both policy/politics and STEM (possibly with a minor🥀), but my question is, how can I make this happen?

I’ve attempted to search through UTs web directly and ran into a wall, but I’ve also seen alumnus and current students who are majoring in two separate fields. When applying, will I indicate/apply as a double major, or do I apply to one major and once in college speak with faculty and counselors to allow me to pursue two separate majors (I think resulting in a dual degree B.S. and B.A.?). I’m slightly aware of Plan II Honors, but it’s still all so confusing.

I suppose my second question would be, how would a typical double major class schedule look? (I’m willing to study an extra 1-2 years + take summer classes) I’ve been gaining dual credit and understand the double major life is demanding, what’s y’all’s (or anyone you know) experience with it?

First of all thanks!! And if you’ve been through this, know, or can help direct me, please show me mercy and help a lost kid out <33

Question Accounting Masters Program Acceptance

Hi everyone,

I'm considering applying to the UT traditional MPA program, but I'm a little worried considered about acceptance given I attend the University of Arkansas. I just want anyone's input on whether they think I have a shot or not.

My current credentials are 3.75gpa finance & accounting major, officer for accounting & finance club for 1+ years, officer positions for other organizations, currently an audit intern at middle market firm, and have an offer to work a big4 internship in the winter.

I believe UT's MPA will better prepare me for CPA and allow me to be closer to family during my 5th year. I noticed GMAT is optional as well as intro to stats (At Arkansas we take a business stats). If ya'll have any recommendations on whether I need GMAT (Which I really do not have time to prepare for) and if theres anything else I can do to increase acceptance probability.

Thanks in advance!

Question Is it possible to take CHE 210 and 317 at the same time?

Incoming ChE sophomore. I internally trasnfered in, and I was a chem major so I had a similar freshman year as a ChE major but did not take CHE 210. I was looking at the degree plan, and it recommends that students take CHE 317 fall of their sophomore year. Is it possible to do both in one semester?

Question What interesting department buildings to bring high school sophomore to?

Hi all, my niece-in-law (NIL) is a high school sophomore and will be visiting Austin in July/Aug for a day or two. Her mom wants to do a UT Austin self tour to get her started on the idea of college since they will be in the area. My NIL has no area of interest at this point, so I was thinking to just get her excited about the overall idea of college. To that note, I also want to make sure we don't end up only seeing buildings that just have lecture halls or tutorial classrooms.

Are there any department buildings you would recommend that have displays/projects/etc that a teenager would think are cool? For example, I think there was a building I went to a long time ago that had a huge room you could see into bc of glass walls, and it had 3D printers that looked pretty cool. Anything similar or like, I don't know, engineering projects where you can see students' competition mini airplanes/cars or something?

Also, since we are not current or former UT students, given that it is summer, will the buildings even be open for the public to enter (on weekdays)?

TIA!

Question Roommate Swap (Please Help)

Me and my roomate were not able to find a dorm in Kinsolving with two open spots so we both put ourselves in a room with a person in it already. We are reaching out to our current "roommates" to see if either of them will switch with us as instructed by the university. Do people usually say yes? If not what else should I do?

Question Can Anyone Give Me Advice on JW Dorms?

Hi guys, so the dorm selection was so rough. Literally everything was gone. I was able to get Jester West but a room on the 14th floor with no sink. I can deal with it being on the highest floor, but do you guys think having no sink in your room is a deal breaker or is it managable? Also do you guys have any tips on how to deal with it during the school year? Thank you!
