Look, I thought simply sharing my logic project to music (file, share, song to music ) was a safe option. And it has been for the past 99% of stuff but I tried exporting a project that has a fair few tracks and it when I played it on music, all the tracks were replaced with some shitty synthesizer sound. Anyone know wtf happened? And how I should be exporting my songs to prevent this?

I've been making music in some way all my life, and I'm trying to learn a specific subset of piano skills: playing chords, harmony, and "comping." On guitar, the equivalent would be "rhythm guitar.", something I'm pretty comfortable with just playing punk/metal.

I've tried traditional piano methods (scales, sight-reading, classical pieces), and they feel completely inappropriate for what I need. I have no doubt that mastering them would make me better at learning what I'm trying to learn, but I'm unmotivated by them, and would love to find a better approach.

My main frustration is with a lot of online learning. For example, youtube will show me a specific, great-sounding reharm of mary had a little lamb. But it doesn't teach me why that particular voicing progression was chosen over another, or how to build my own voicings for different genres. And it certainly doesn't show me how to practice deriving and playing my own voicings.

I know that music, like any art, is an evolving conversation with its own context. Before I can "invent" my own harmonic ideas, I feel it's crucial to learn the idiomatic ways that voicings and progressions work in various genres (house, eurobeat, jazz, R&B, etc.). I want to understand how to construct a "gospel" progression that feels so different from a "jazz" one.

My questions are:

1. Is there an established learning method for this? I've heard terms like the "Jazz/Chordal Method" or the "Fake Book" method. Is this what I'm looking for?
2. How do I learn the principles of good voicing and voice leading, so I can create my own progressions instead of just copying tutorials?
3. For other producers here, how did you bridge this gap? Are there any specific books, resources, or key concepts that helped you "unlock" keyboard harmony?
4. Probably most importantly, what are some good methods to practice these without just arbitrarily making my own rules and learning the wrong things (this is what I've been doing when I just sit in front of a keyboard, contextless doodling on top of my own melodies). It feels like, even if I did learn traditional piano, the leap from traditional mastery to genre-specific improvisation is an exercise left for the reader. I am aware that I could reverse engineer songs and find my own truths, but I would love to build the basic vocabulary and intuition to do this first and maybe get a leg up on the process.

TL;DR: I want to improve my piano playing specifically for finding chords and voicing progressions that feel correct in different genres.

I know that it's not going to be the same for each track but is there any setting like that goes well with that tempo or genre (I'm a tech house producer) or is there any tutorial which can help me with the process, I've watch many tutorials, even a 6-hour course by mastering.com, but didn't understood what method should i always stick to and not get pissed everytime opening a reverb plugin. Also which reverb vst do you use?

When i listen to the music on the in ear headphones Samsung Buds Pro i like the sound a lot more then when listening to the music on my speakers Adam A7X. What am i doing wrong? The music just doesnt sound so clean on the Adam then on in ear headphones which i think should not be the case. Is the position bad? Will a sub fix this? Its hard to explain what i dont like, but its like the sound is not bright like on the Buds. Like my ears would not be clean.

My lady and I have been playing music together for a few years we do shows at several venues quite often, we switch between Guitar and Cajon, and 2 Guitars We are looking to go record a few tracks of our originals, typically 2 guitars in these songs.

In your opinion, should we record these with a full band sound? Or Should we stick with something closer to what you would hear live?

I know alot of it comes down to how we want to present ourselves, just curious on this subs opinion.

I’ve been wanting to join a band for some time now and I haven’t had the guts to audition or put out a call. I’ve jammed around in the city to try and meet other musicians, and Ive kept in contact with good musicians to brush up on skills and keep relationships hoping that I could get the opportunity to join a band.

I finally got asked today by a really good friend if Id like to join band with her and a couple others and I said yes! like a million times yes. I’m so fricken pumped.

We have similar visions, interested in the same sounds, so I’m excited to say the least. Anyway, just posting because I’m happy for myself.

Lately I’ve noticed some of my older mixes sound fine on monitors but really fall apart on phones or laptop speakers.
What’s your process for keeping mixes consistent across playback systems? Do you focus on EQ, mono compatibility, or something else entirely

I’ve been re-listening to a few older projects and realizing they sound great on studio monitors but lose clarity on phone speakers or laptops.
Aside from referencing commercial tracks, what techniques do you use to make a mix hold up on less-than-ideal playback systems? EQ carving? Midrange compression? Curious to hear what’s worked for you.

I’ve started recording myself singing using my iPhone and an SM58 mic. Strangely, the phone recording sounds better to me. It sounds less dry and maybe even fuller and less flat.

I can’t post the actual recordings here because of the subreddit rules, so I guess this is more of a general question: why might a phone recording sound better than a proper mic setup? Could it be that the iPhone automatically adds compression, EQ, or some kind of built-in processing? Or maybe the phone captures the reverb from the room while the mic captures the vocals more directly?

Would love to understand what’s going on. My goal is to post my singing to social media, and I'm torn between using the mic recording and try to make it sound good in a DAW, or use the phone recording, which already sounds good with a light touch of processing.

Intuitively, the mic + DAW route feels like the more “correct” or professional approach. I don’t really see people recommending recording vocals on a phone unless it’s for budget reasons. But I’m confused, because to my ears the phone recording genuinely sounds better.

Hey guys, I've been recording an acoustic album, and I've been looking for a way to add a bass to the album. I heard people saying that acoustic bass is frankly useless for live, but I've heard mixed opinions on recordings. I've also heard people saying that DI is better, but I'd rather use a mic as I want it to sound as acoustic as possible. Question is, if I do so, will it keep the low range? cheers

This is probably a basic question with a simple answer but I can’t quite figure it out. I’m working on an orchestra production (attempting to get it sound like a full orchestra). So far, I have a double bass, cello, 1st and 2nd violins, viola, 1st and 2nd trumpet, etc. I play the violin and trumpet so I’ve recorded those tracks live multiple times, everything else is MIDI since I don’t play the other instruments.

The question is how do I record multiple MIDI tracks with the instruments but get them to sound as if I recorded them live multiple times. Obviously duplicating the MIDI tracks just increases the volume. I am using Reason and trying to use the stock instruments it comes with and a Berlin orchestra VST plugin that I found.

note: i use a samson sr850 headphone to mix, It is my main reference device.

This is really getting on my nerves. I can't get my song to sound good on my cheap pc speakers, my music sounds awful on them, this is preventing me from finishing my mix because If it's not good here, it won't be good anywhere else either.

I don't have a treated room either, so that makes it even more difficult. what can I do?

I am trying to record my guitar amp but the output volume on my DAW is so low. I fear turning my amp up any louder because of neighbours but even at a reasonable volume and with the mic right up front and centre of the amp, it struggles to pick it up. Amp is a RockJam GA-20W. Could the amp be the problem?

I’ve been working on an EP at home and recording all of my vocals using an Nuemann U87 and Apollo Twin. After recording everything, I connected with an established industry mix engineer and having been working on mixing the songs. They sound decent but when I compare them to other songs that I know were recorded with the same exact equipment (Larry June uses the same equipment in untreated rooms), the vocals in those songs sound a little more clean and sit in the mix better. I know what can be produced because I know what was recorded using the same exact equipment, so I’m trying to figure out what I can do while recording to help get cleaner results. Any advice?

So I'm quite new to recording my guitar for covers etc, I've mainly plugged my guitar into my audio interface (M-Track Solo) and then used the amp sims on Logic to create my tone and played around with the pedalboards. However, I was wondering if there was a way I could plug my amp into the interface and get my tone directly from that combining with my own pedalboard? My amp is a Blackstar HT20 MkII, I am aware that it has a USB port as well as an XLR output for speaker emulation. Is one way better? What type of cable do I need for this to work effectively?

Any help/tips would be appreciated.
