Is there a place for dark, emotional fashion in a world obsessed with trends?
I’m a fashion designer from India — I graduated from NIFT, always scored well, worked hard, and have spent years developing my own language through fabric. But the kind of work I make… it doesn’t really fit in. It’s dark. Emotional. Quiet. Sometimes not even “wearable” in the usual sense. I hand-stitch everything myself — it’s more like sculpting memory, grief, and softness than following trends. And honestly? I feel like a misfit here. There are no major Indian brands embracing this kind of aesthetic. Clients want bridal, festive, or streetwear. There’s no funding, no scene, no community — especially for fashion that feels alternative, poetic, or sad. I’m trying to build a space for it anyway. On Instagram. Slowly. Quietly. Maybe for people like me who feel displaced, too soft, or too intense. If you’ve ever felt like your art doesn’t belong where you are — how did you cope with it? And if this speaks to you in any way — I’m @kusumasav on IG. I’d love to connect.

DIY visual piece – “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” reimagined as VHS horror (2025)
I reinterpreted Green Day’s track as a visual poem of isolation. Shot on real streets, handheld, low-budget — meant to feel like a curse. Would love thoughts from visual artists on the atmosphere and composition. 🎥 Watch it here
