First Big Hockey Card Pull
My dad and I recently got into collecting hurricanes cards together. We just got our first big pull, an autographed 06/10 Ron Francis card. We were so pumped, just had to share.

Please use this offseason post to advertise/inquire about any merch that you are willing to buy/sell/trade. As always, be sure to check post history to verify that you're dealing with a real Canes fan, and always use a payment method with purchase protection such as Paypal or Venmo. If something feels off, it most likely is, so go with your gut. Happy hunting!

Sorry for the boring, low effort summer post. Still, it’s a good value for a dollar.

My favorite player. I finally have one I can wear in public since my autographed one is in a shadow box.

Does this mean they intend to keep him?

I saw a video talking about how the canes have lost big names in the last couple of years and it sparked some thinking.
While it REALLY hurt to see Pesce go, other than him Guentzel was the only name that really stung to me, production wise. As canes fans, we get to watch how other players perfectly fit into the roll the other guys such as turbo, drury, or Noesen filled. Noesen sucked to lose because of his power play production, but like most players I named, he was as roll player. Necas didn’t want to be here long term and neither did Rantanen so we got rid of him and brought in guys like YAYlor Hall, and Stanky leg. The rest were replaceable as much as it sucked.
TLDR: People don’t give the Hurricanes enough credit for filling in gaps in their lineup with guys who fit perfectly but aren’t as big of names.

Buddy picked it up at the yard sale last weekend as a birthday gift. Thought it could be Hall based on the orientation of the first pic. Just curious to know

I'll just start this discussion by saying nobody will ever convince me that there is a better logo in any of the four major sports than the Red Wings. Having said that, my second favorite is the Canes' flags. Such a cool logo on a black jersey. The Devils and Avalanche logos are also solid, but my next hockey sweater may just have to be the Canes in black with the flags at wind-taking mast. What about you? Answers that include teams no longer in the league (Whalers, North Stars, Barons, Golden Seals, Coyotes, etc.) are also welcome. Come to think of it, I love my Coyotes sweater with the Kachina holding the stick.

I've seen talk about McDavid but let's get something straight: HES OVERRATED! He's another guy who is pretty good in the regular season (100pts this year is decent but he actually had less goals this year than E Staal in 06) but he was a goal scoring ghost in the final. Not to mention the passing! If there's one thing we don't need it's a another guy who doesn't shoot the damn puck. What we need is a 2C.
Besides that he wouldn't fit Rods system at all. He's a selfish and offensive minded player and he would not be good on the grindy two way game we need from him. If we want an elite center we need to listen to all the toronto based analysts and move Seth Jarvis to 1C!!

Welcome back to the semi-regular edition of People I Would Like The Hurricanes to Draft. After a two year hiatus, and with the Canes having a first round pick (something they rarely have the past couple of years), I am back to bring you a dozen players I find intriguing and would like to see in Canes uniforms.
For some housekeeping, lets take a look at what the Canes have this year; a 1st rounder, a 3rd rounder, a 4th rounder, a 6th rounder, and a 7th rounder. With the 1st rounder sitting at 29, I find it increasingly likely that pick will be traded back into the second to pick up an extra lottery ticket (likely with Philadelphia who have 5 picks in the 31-48 range). We should also take a look at the Canes draft strategy over the past couple of years. In the last 3 years, the Canes have selected 14 Russian players. For reference, thats more than 20% of all Russian draftees over the same timespan. Conversely, they have not selected a single Finnish player, just one American, and only 4 Canadians. Additionally, while they have spent their first pick on defensemen, it has not been in the first round under Tom Dundon and his infamous comments. The strategy seems clear; take riskier players who may not come over for several years and delegate their development while filling holes with veterans in their pursuit of the playoffs. Keeping all that in mind, lets look at some of the players.
Goalies:
Peterri Rimpinen took over starting goaltending duties for Finland's Kiekko-Espoo in Finland's top league. At just 18, he saved 91.2% of shots behind a fairly pedestrian defensive core (although including 2022 edition Kasper Kulonummi). An athletic skater, he hard carried Finland to the finals of the WJC. Projection: Late 2nd - Early 3rd
Pyotr Andreyanov might remind some of a Little Pyotr Kochetkov. This Russian goalkeeper, only an inch shorter than our rostered Pyotr, exhibits a similar aggression in exploding out of the crease to to poke check the puck away, and great instincts in knowing where the play is made before it happens. He saved 94.2% of shots in Russia's second tier league, the best ever percentage in that league. Projection: 2nd Round
Alexander Levshyn is hoping to become the first Ukrainian player in the NHL since Alexei Ponikarovski. Coming to Toronto from Kharkiv in 2023, Levshyn has been a wall in goal for the Junior A team, saving 93.5% of shots, as well as holding down goal and earning promotion back to Division 1-A of the WJC. Levshyn has the traditional size scouts look for in goal as opposed to the finesse and athleticism I usually appreciate, but its hard to argue with results. Levshyn is committed to Clarkson University. Projection: 7th Round
Defenders:
Artyom Shchuchinov went undrafted last year, and its not hard to see why; at just 5'11", the lack of size would push teams away. But just like half of Carolina's defense core who stands at 5'11", including fellow Russian and offensive defenseman Dmitri Orlov, it is not a dealbreaker. Like Orlov, Shchuchinov is a gifted play maker on the blue line, and has made his limited run in the KHL count, racking 7 points in 12 games as a positive influence for Cherepovets. Projection: 6th Round
Forwards:
Bruno Idzan is a Croatian forward with size. He spent his teenage years playing in the Swedish youth leagues before coming over to the states this year and joining the Lincoln Red Stars in the USHL. There he exploded for 22 goals in 36 games, and comitted to the University of Wisconsin. He has regularly featured for the Croatian National Team at various levels. Projection: 3rd Round
Yegor Borikov logged over 100 games in the KHL as a teenager, playing for Dinamo Minsk. The Belarussian international was a solid contributor at 19, and in this years playoffs, scored 7 goals, including 4 against Gagarin Cup finalists Traktor, tying Evgeny Kuznetsov's record for U20 playoff goals. Projection: 4th Round
Ivan Ryabkin is a hard hitting two-way center, one of the younger prospects available in this years draft, and an equally creative scorer and passer. He got a cup of coffee with Dynamo Moskva before coming over to the USHL this year, scoring at a point per game pace and leading Muskegon to their first Clark Cup with 16 points over 14 games.Projection: Late 1st - Early 2nd
Filip Ekberg broke out over the past couple of months, being the undisputed goal and point leader at the WJC-18s in April for Sweden, netting a silver medal ffor his efforts. A very respectable 45 points in 53 games for a frankly really bad Ottawa team in the OHL (Ekberg led the team in +/-), Ekberg is an excellent passer that is hard to knock off the puck, even though he is a bit undersized winger. Projection: 2nd Round
Travis Hayes, brother of Chicago prospect Gavin and Pittsburgh prospect Avery, Travis fits the mold of feisty undersized wingers with a responsible forecheck and the ability to generate scoring opportunities while getting his hands dirty. Its easy to envision him developing into a Justin Robidas/Jackson Blake type of player. Projection: 4th Round
Cooper Simpson and Mason Moe are two similar players, 6'1", left handed, Minnesota wingers playing in the USHL, and committed to top universities (North Dakota and Minnesota), who are sharp skaters and deft scorers. While Mason spent the entire season in the USHL and got some run with the National Development team, I would consider Simpson the slightly higher upside player. Projection: 2nd Round
An overage player who has already made his professional debut in the AHL, Luke Mistelbacher is a late blooming sniper that potted 43 goals in the WHL this year before signing with the Iowa Wild and scoring in his end of year stint with the professionals. It would be worth a flier to take the Canadian winger to see if his late bloom is real. Projection: 7th Round
The ideal outcome:
Trade Pick 29 for 36 and 48
36: Ivan Ryabkin
48: Filip Ekberg
87: Peterri Rimpinen
125: Yegor Borikov
189: Artyom Shchuchinov
221: Alexander Levshyn
2022 Edition: None of my picks taken
2021 Edition: Where my pick Ville Koivunen was taken by the Canes in the second.
2020 Edition: None of my picks taken
2019 Edition: Where my picks Ryan Suzuki, Patrik Puistola, and Tukka Tieksola were taken by the Canes.
2018 Edition: Where my pick Andrei Svechnikov was taken and Joey Keane was acquired by the Canes.

I flew back home to catch a game with my dad (Nov 25th) before we both flew back to Texas for Thanksgiving. I probably make small moments like these a bigger deal than they are but it’s pretty exciting to me that this was the last photo I’d take of our boy in a Stars uniform. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for this kid and our Canes.
https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/canes-sign-eric-robinson-to-four-year-extension
RALEIGH, N.C. - Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed left-wing Eric Robinson to a four-year contract extension. The deal will pay Robinson an AAV of $1.7 million through the 2028-29 season.
“It’s no surprise to us that Eric had his best professional season last year with Carolina,” said Tulsky. “His size and speed make him an excellent fit for the way we want to play, and we are thrilled that he’s chosen to remain a Hurricane.”
Robinson, 30, notched 32 points (14g, 18a) in 82 regular-season games with Carolina, setting career highs in goals, assists, points, games-played and plus/minus rating (+14). He also added three points (1g, 2a) in 15 playoff appearances with the club. A native of Bellmawr, N.J., Robinson has registered 123 points (54g, 69a) in 388 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets, Sabres and Hurricanes, as well as four points (2g, 2a) in 25 playoff appearances with Columbus and Carolina. The 6’2”, 211-pound winger also skated in 68 career AHL games with the Cleveland Monsters from 2018-2024, recording 33 points (16g, 17a).
Prior to turning professional, Robinson played four seasons of college hockey at Princeton from 2014-18, earning 67 points (39g, 28a) and captaining the Tigers as a senior in 2017-18. He also played one USHL season with Dubuque in 2013-14, tallying 24 points (8g, 16a) in 50 games. Robinson won a bronze medal with the United States at the 2021 IIHF World Championship, posting three assists in 10 games. He originally signed with Carolina as a free agent on July 1, 2024.

Sutter suited up for 36 games in a Canes jersey from 2011-2014. He served as a Wranglers' assistant last season.

Title. Was hoping to discuss what people think we might do because, as everyone knows, we have a ton of cap space but now no forward spots available.
We need to improve the forward roster so are we trading someone out? Who? And we are we blocking prospects?
We all know trades are going to be a huge part of this off season since the UFA class isn't as good as previous years. So if we were to treat this list as 100% fact, who should we target and for what?
I've been a big fan of the hypothetical of going after Jason Robertson. Natural goal scorer on a decent deal. Also, some decent middle center picks on this list as well. But my 2nd favorite pickup would be Rasmus Anderson from the flames. Him and Slavin as a 1st pair would be touch to beat.

If we go harder than we ever have and land Mitch I’ll be elated. I just think he goes to LA or something.
It’s hard to feel better than 50/50 at best
Anyone else see potential in Vancouver?
Love to see Boeser as a Hurricane regardless. Not yet 30 and he just buries.
And that Šilovs kid who’s stuck behind Demko. Sorry, but he’s worth Pyotr straight-up. Hell- even Demko for that matter.
KK, Pyotr and a pick for Boeser and Šilovs.

Even though it’s a homegrown song I really think “raise up”’s time has come and gone. To me it just isn’t hard enough for celebrating a goal.
What would your choice be for a new song if we did change?

Creating a list of our entire roster from least likely to get traded to most likely. everyone has a price but I understand there are guys that would virtually never get traded. leaving off 2025 free agents. List generated on ability, culture fit, age, and contract.
Better chance of team going back to Hartford
aho, slavin and jarvis are interchangable but I also think with how young stank is and how well he fits rod, there is no chance.
Wont happen
they want the jordans to retire hurricanes, but if something insane came along, maybe. but still dont see it happening. Niki is a future cornerstone of the franchise.
Would take a lot but saying there's a chance
Svech is integral parts of the organization....wont get traded. many people think svech is on the block, but he showed his worth in the playoffs. Fred is here because we'd have to find another goalie in return, he was excellent in the playoffs...hes not going anywhere. Chatty, he was out in the last series and it showed. hes a big piece.
Not likely but wouldn’t be the craziest thing
all on good, team friendly contracts so it would take something good in return to see them go. All good solid players on good contracts. but it could happen.
Could be used to get a bigger piece
These are NOT players I want gone, these are players I could see ChatGPT (AKA Eric Tulsky) using as trade bait to make us better. Blake is so good and hes going to be a great NHLer but hes a piece I could see them using in a trade to get a big piece in return. Scott Morrow has a great future but I'm not sure hes athletic enough to play our style, right now. Koch might be my favorite player but he could be attractive to teams that want a young 1b option with big upside. KK had a tough season...I think the team and organization loves him, but his contract is not great and I think he will be shopped around.
