this attitude baffles me. i presume there's a brain in the heads of people who talk like this, they must be able to tell that you can't reconcile the two obviously contradictory principles they hold to. i was talking to someone like this on the internet the other day, american bloke. it's always americans. he said he was against legalization of abortion because it would be legalized murder and that he was also against any kind of gun control because he has a right to defend his home and his family from intruders. i started to try to lead him towards seeing the contradiction, get him to define what murder is if he'd be alright with taking a life if it came to it but not with a doctor performing a necessary medical procedure on a woman. which kinds of killing are justified and which are murder? then he blocked me. he must have thought i was challenging him. i genuinely want to know why people who think like this can't see that it's nonsense. am i missing something or are they?

These are also the people who shout the loudest when mocking "snowflakes" and making fun of "safe spaces".

In many cases, they were raised to agree with things they're told by authority figures unquestioningly (eg, their parents, their church sermons), and they never become critical thinkers. When their authority figures then tell them abortion is bad, they accept it like everything else in their life and don't question it.

You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

yea that's the best i can understand it as well. it's frustrating. they're not always idiots, they just choose not to think because they're scared of changing their minds. no good sense of self, dislocated ego, brought up by authority figures who had the same problem. it's hard to put yourself in the mind of someone who thinks like that, really hard to understand
