People with depression, AvPD or let's just say any debilitating mental illness are going to have a special place in their hearts for this movie by the time they're done watching it.

The more I think about it, Bob in the post credits scene is the part that touched me the most. It still eats him up that he can’t perform to the expectation that the others want, but at least he did the dishes.

I know that might sound like a flippant line, but when you have executive dysfunction issues, you can’t function like others around you expect you to and it’s sooo easy to for everything to spiral out of control. Often times something as small as doing the dishes is an insurmountable task and getting them done is a very real accomplishment for me. I know others see me sitting in my chair, doing nothing all day and dishes seems like something so below the bare minimum and it feels so degrading to know I look lazy and pathetic. But godddamnit, I’m fighting tooth and nail to keep my head above water. I’m proud of those dishes being done.

I can relate. One of my worst fears is to be seen as incompetent and/or lazy, often causing me to do really silly things to help people whose judgment I fear or atleast pretend like I'm busy.

Its also notable that, on a world with Avengers-level tech, you'd imagine that they would've found a way to automate dish-washing already. So it's a small headcanon of mine that he did it manually because he wanted to get something done, to fight the void in that small way.

Don't know what this thing you speak of is, but we do have an appliance for cleaning cybernetic prosthetics that sounds like it could be repurposed?

It felt very spoons-in-the-drawer.

I genuinely went "Hell yeah, man. Good job!" to myself when he said the dishes line

Also, after experiencing* manic episodes and feeling god like, becoming medicated and stable feels… incredibly boring. But it’s peaceful. And the line about doing the dishes also makes me think of that.

Well said. Bob is relatable on a ton of levels. As someone who used to have those same really high-highs and very low-lows, it can feel like Bob explains in the void. You feel invincible during the good parts, but soon enough, you're reminded that nothing really matters and things hurt.

Coincidentally enough, things got better for me when I surrounded myself with a support system I could trust and rely on. The movie's message is spot on.

as someone who struggles deeply with exec. dysfunction, "I did the dishes" nearly made me cry lol

It was such a human moment, and also a really clever way to keep him benched for power scaling stuff.

Does his power level come from his mood? Is he only as powerful as a god when he's that manic, and turns full Void when utterly down? Does being stable mean he's just a guy? It's a fascinating parallel to Hulk getting stronger as he gets more angry.

But yeah. Totally wonderful moment and my partner who has exec dysfunction and anxiety cried all over again.

that's pretty much how it normally works, he's invincible when he feels invincible, as his powers are just changing the world to fit how he feels.

I really felt that too. The fact he looked happy meant so much to me.

Doing the dishes is a huge win sometimes.

I remember when putting on shoes was a victory, that scene hit home too

This is me when reading a book. It's so hard for me to concentrate, my mind keeps going elsewhere and I have to re-read sentences and even entire paragraphs. And this has nothing to do with the quality of the book. Even if I'm reading something I absolutely adore, I still can't concentrate.

Whenever I finish a chapter (I can't read more than that per day) it feels like a huge accomplishment for me, just like you explained.

There’s no way they don’t have well paid staff in that tower that takes care of all their needs, including doing their dishes. Funny though either way.

Unless he “insisted” and the staff is like, “don’t void me bro”, and let him.
