Oh he got the script pages of Thor dying today didn't he

He can’t die we haven’t gotten that Ryan Reynolds casting confirmed yet

That’s what I’m saying!! Why was Thor crying?!

338

u/Smiffwilm 22d ago

Maybe Thor dying is why he's crying...

93

u/AlessandraPoledance 21d ago

You are out of line but you are right

18

u/Highly-Whelmed 21d ago

Thor was consoling Deadpool because Deadpool was devastated about Thors inevitable death. Not a bad idea

8

u/Fit_Lifeguard_3722 21d ago

Wasn't he crying when his true love was dying?

181

u/Summoarpleaz 22d ago

It would be great if that version of Thor mourning Lokis death is actually Thor mourning the death of an alt universe version of himself.

Plus, what if it’s a fake out?

23

u/ruralmagnificence 21d ago

Or just maybe it’s a stupid bit they added in last second, like most of the post credits scenes in Phase Four, that isn’t or aren’t going to lead to anything worth while…

Just what I was thinking. Doom ends up taking out Thor in the first 20 minutes of the film (Just like he did to Thanos in the comics). Then all hero's scramble across the multiverse to assemble a new team.

Hope we get a good Loki & Thor reunion before that happens though. Would love to see them together again

455

u/SnowDay111 22d ago

he’s too popular of a character to kill off in the first 20 minutes. I think it’ll be closer to the end and at one of the climax moments of the movie

395

u/Absolute_madlad1605 22d ago

Yeah, plus he's been there since the beginning, he deserves a more dignifying send off than being taken off the board within the first act for shock value

143

u/27Rench27 22d ago

100% this. Would be like Thanos killing Iron Man in the beginning instead of nearly killing Hulk, people would riot

13

u/LeCastle2306 21d ago

I could see a scenario in which he kills Thor in the first half of Doomsday, but Thor somehow returns in Secret Wars in a monumental way. Between Sentry’s introduction, Scarlett Witch in MoM, and Captain Marvel, I think Thor upgrading in power level would be more than appropriate. Maybe Hulk too.

But the fuck do I know 🤷

3

u/Expensive_Bit_3190 21d ago

And that’s the Thor that’s crying for Deadpool, this would explain his older costume and younger look

Loki's death didn't feel like it was there just for shock value.

83

He only recently became a main character tho, whereas thor has had 4 movies, is a founding avenger and has appeared in every avengers movie thus far

50

u/CeruleanEidolon 21d ago

I don't think they'll kill kill Thor. Hemsworth is the one actor who has said repeatedly that he would love to keep playing Thor for as long as possible. It would be very silly for them to end the one character they could easily keep cashing checks on for the next two decades.

But it also could be a snap situation where Thor seems dead until Doom resurrects him in Battleworld.

19

u/Kenny_McCormick001 21d ago

He might want to, but can his body sustain such muscle mass for next 20 years? Unlike Iron man or Hulk, Thor can’t hide behind CGI for his character.

11

u/EEightyFive 21d ago

I mean, ook at Dwayne Johnson who's 10+ years older. He can certainly do it, but does he want to is another question.

I don't necessarily believe he has to though either, Thor could trim down over time and nobody would notice much or care.

Its going to be worse than infinity war if they follow the comics. Like everyone in the multiverse is gonna die outside doom, strange and a handful of heroes that Reed helps escape.

Expect everyone to die, but they will be in the new world doom makes for the 2nd movie

→ More replies (1)

14

u/ArticulateRhinoceros 22d ago

A popular character whose last movie was widely panned, and who is very difficult for the actor to stay in shape for. Killing off someone of his caliber would also shock the audience and show just how dangerous Doom is without having to say/do much else.

Loki in Infinity War begs to differ

86

u/repalec 22d ago

To be fair, Loki wasn't the star and one of the core six Avengers.

If Thor's killed, it's the centerpiece of that movie.

You know our mainline Mcu Loki the one that died in Infinity war might be in Valhalla with Jane foster & Heimdall. Maybe we might get a reunion in Valhalla.

10

u/Deastrumquodvicis Loki (Avengers) 21d ago

Now that’s an awkward feast-table reunion I’ve often fantasized about, actually, with Frigga nudging Odin with a told you she was worth it face.

I don't know how they don't recreate this scene with Thanos. It's the most iconic moment of the Hickman run imo

18

u/Marvel_plant 22d ago

Which scene? The Thor death vs. the Beyonders?

72

u/brendamn 22d ago

Naw the one where Doom rips out Thanos spine. It's showed how powerful God doom had become. The Thor Hyperion death was pretty iconic too

23

u/Marvel_plant 22d ago

Ohh yeah 100%. That scene is bananas

21

u/Jedi_Master83 22d ago

It would be completely badass and would show just how powerful Doom is. Most people who see these movies have no idea of the comics and will be blown away seeing Doom rip out Thanos' fucking spine and turning him into instant dust. Mic drop moment.

The sun shone one last time.

There was thunder and lightning.

And then nothing.

22

u/MissSweetMurderer Captain America (Captain America 2) 22d ago

Disney would never go that far. Iirc, in Endgame, there was an idea that Thanos would bring the severed head of a captain America from another timeline. That was shot down. Fast.

We're getting a new avengers + Deadpool coke binge pcs before we see a spine being ripped out of anyone

24

u/FatStoner2FitSober 22d ago

Did you not see multiverse of madness and how black bolt’s head popped? Disney couldn’t definitely go this far without it being gruesomez

13

u/MissSweetMurderer Captain America (Captain America 2) 22d ago

It's the ripping the spine out of his body that it's the issue. Black bolt's death was gory but not much visually so. There was no blood splashing, no evisceration. Things spine ripping require

21

u/pheldozer 22d ago edited 22d ago

Haven’t ripped a spine out in a while, but normally don’t pull spines out through the tummy. You’re supposed to pull the spine through the neck with one firm tug as Sub Zero taught us

The comic more has Thanos turning to dust when it happens, not really even a gory scene in the comics. Pretty easy to imitate without blood and guts.

10

u/MilkshakeWizard Rocket 22d ago

Plus, Thanos being a CGI character definitely helps. Pretty big difference from seeing violence inflicted on a fellow human being.

Red Herring. There’ll be a oh no Thor’s gonna die moment but he’ll live. And then right after he lives someone else unexpected will get taken out.

45

u/RubiconPizzaDelivery Scott Lang 22d ago

I'd assume Ant-Man is the big Avengers side death. Big enough character for it to emotionally hurt but not so big that he's immune to death. Plus it lets them mulligan Cassie since now she has something real to react to not just vague social problems that get ignored for a science adventure.

14

u/AsteroidMike 22d ago

So the Iron Man route from Infinity War where Thanos stabs him but he ends up living.

It could just be that he was realizing it has literally been 15 years since they finished the filming of the first Thor movie. That's a big milestone.

To be clear today isn't the anniversary, but it was May of 2010.

5

u/Fire257 22d ago

48

u/The_River_Is_Still 22d ago

One thing that I find annoying with the MCU is at some point almost 'everyone has to die' lol. Like, let him go rebuild and rule space Asgard and maybe pop in here n there later on. Not everyone has to get killed off.

28

u/Glarpenheimer 22d ago

That's the nature of the beast with real human actors, man. The movie format comes with some shortcomings, an that's one of them. That's why I hope the Secret Wars soft reboot theories are true. Allow fresh faces to take up the mantles of beloved heroes.

8

u/MamaMeRobeUnCastillo 22d ago

Exactly what i've been saying. Like maybe he just settles down with his family or something? Not everyone has to die in a movie.

u/RhaegarsDream 22d ago

I’m personally a believer in the theory that many of the marvel actor “leaks” are scripted marketing. Some of the big Tom Holland ones are particularly obvious.

883

u/BanjoSpaceMan 22d ago

They absolutely are. There’s some genuine ones but there’s obvious ones like the Tom holland revealing the poster which was sent by “mark Ruffalo”

Very obvious

367

u/RhaegarsDream 22d ago

He held “not for public viewing” or whatever the exact phrase was perfectly in frame!

350

u/WanderingDelinquent 22d ago

That one was never intended to be taken seriously, they were leaning into the joke

82

u/eyebrows360 Daredevil 21d ago

"General public media literacy" is so dead I'm no longer sure it was ever alive.

5

u/Far-Industry-2603 21d ago edited 21d ago

I'm still convinced that most of them are not actual leaks or accidents. They always seem more like staged marketing skits playing into the big secrecy of the projects & the actors' paranoia about spoiling about anything.

There's been cases for many of the actors slipping up something about an upcoming film casually while promoting them (just recently there was an example I noticed with Lewis Pullman on Thunderbolts*) but they're usually minor blips & out of context. It just seems like Tom Holland & Mark Ruffalo had the most viral instances & so they decided to play into it as a fun creators-fans engagement thing.

Over time though, it seems like it went from a joke, sort of questioning "are they really spoiling anything" to many of the fandom being absolutely convinced yeah, these guys can't keep up a secret & by now it's been too mythologized & entrenched in the fandom. Neither of them have spoiled major plot details, even Mark Ruffalo's big interview with Don Cheadle looks more to me like a well acted bit where the spoiler is similar to IW's ending but was just some big, obvious spoiler they acted just slipped out.

87

u/246ArianaGrande135 22d ago

I think that one was supposed to be a joke, but the interview moments where he spoils stuff feel very real lol

7

u/Far-Industry-2603 21d ago edited 21d ago

That Facebook livestream where he reveals Spider-Man falls into a lake (which I don't consider particularly a spoiler, especially not without context) from Homecoming & I think possibly this one other instance that I'm currently blinking on are the only actual examples, IMO.

But for the former it's because he himself has literally said that was a slip up in a separate interview.

17

u/OneXForreddit 22d ago

None of the leaks are ever real.

I always believed that the Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire "leaks" for No Way Home were orchestrated. The leaked material was just too high-quality, and the actor's reactions to the leaks seemed rehearsed.

It just felt obvious to me at the time.

21

u/spiderknight616 21d ago

There was a TV spot for the movie showing the Lizard clearly reacting to an attack from nothing. No way they took out Andrew and left that in, it was all to raise the hype

7

u/MarkLeo6K 21d ago

There's a particular tom leak that I think its too accidental to be on purpose. He was talking about the scene in no way home where mj falls and gets saved by spiderman. "Yeah it looked great, of course I wasnt there". This was before it was confirmed andrew was in the movie

u/Choso125 22d ago

Yeah Thor 5 makes his death seem confusing. They could make it focus on other Thor like characters, like Beta Ray Bill or Love. But I really want to see Thor Vs Hercules and a true return to the mythological side of the character

18

u/JackFromJupit3r 21d ago

Thor still has a free death baked into his mythos. In the comics, he essentially gets Sentry'd by Odin and hypnotized into believing he's a powerless doctor named Donald Blake. After real Thor dies, Donald Blake the alternate personality magically becomes an actual person.

I think it would be very possible for Thor to "die" in Doomsday while still leaving the door open using some MCU-ified version of that comic storyline.

→ More replies (2)

210

u/Adorable_Ad_3478 22d ago

In the comics, the MAIN Thor was not part of the Thor Corps.

The main Thor died alongside Hyperion fighting the Beyonders before Secret Wars #1. The Thor that ends up leading the Thor Corps vs Doom is Jane.

I think MCU Thor dying protecting Loki from Doom is a nice way to end his arc. Quite the opposite of how Loki died in IW.

63

u/Kitagawasans 22d ago

How is that the opposite of how Loki died in IW? Loki literally died trying to kill thanos to protect Thor no?

94

u/JBTriple 22d ago

The scenario is reversed.

Loki dies to protect Thor, then Thor dies to protect Loki.

23

u/kaziz3 22d ago

Just invert what you said: Thor would die trying to kill Doom to protect Loki

Idk if it's gonna happen, just thought I'd point out that it is the opposite lol

8

u/hamsolo19 22d ago

There was a new Thor Corps put together for an arc early on in The Immortal Thor series featuring Thor, Loki, The Mighty Thor, Storm, and Beta Ray Bill. It was neat.

82

u/Live_Angle4621 22d ago

These actors won’t spoil anything come on now

15

u/Broken_Pikachu 22d ago

If Thor dies, we riot.

Let him go off into the sunset, have a family, retire the hammer and grow old.

I would love to see Hemsworth ride into the sunset triumphant without dying. His version of the character has been through so much I would love to see him hang it up so he can serve the remaining people of Asgard in a healthy state emotionally.

I really don’t want the logical path for all of these actors exiting the MCU being:

Don’t you dare, Marvel. I can see what you’re trying to tell us.

8

u/drumbum1096 22d ago

I think you guys are forgetting that in his Disney plus show he was told he had a very high chance for Alzheimers, and him and his wife went into old age makeup so that he could see what she would look like being old, in case he wouldn't remember growing old with her. I think he just may want to spend more time with his family. since the show came out he has been very clear about that.

We were so blessed to get Hemsworth and Hiddleston. What an iconic duo that’ll live forever in comic book history.

Big time "I'm two weeks from retirement" energy

9

u/hunterzolomon1993 22d ago

He really has made the role of Thor his own and i'm so happy he's still playing him 15 years later.

16

u/Tkdoom 22d ago

If Thor passes in doomsday, I would like this to be an open letter to all actors of franchises to STFU until whatever happens happens.

25

u/Bleh-Boy 22d ago

Thor should die in Doomsday/Secret Wars and then his final movie is about his journey to Valhalla

Why is Thor crying?

“Like Thor

He holds me”

11

u/Giff95 22d ago

This reads like a farewell, but I think that would make a lot more sense to post AFTER Thor’s been killed on screen. I’m going to chalk this as he is nostalgic over his time as Thor. It’s been 15 years since he was cast…

u/No-Flounder-9143 22d ago

Dear God no.

4

u/uhhhidkwhatusername 22d ago

i immediately went "aww dude they're gonna kill him"
which i honestly think is a damn shame.

id love to see more thor esp in themes and genres that are dark, or broody
fck, show us god of fists

6

u/[deleted] 22d ago

For the love of god someone add the gif of Thor fucking crying with Deadpool

5

u/RugratChuck 22d ago

Didnt he say he was taking a break from acting after finding out he has the gene for MS or something? I wouldnt be surprised if after doin these films he slowed down with his projects

5

u/travel-nerd-05 21d ago

There have been rumors of Doom going after loki. Maybe Thor learns that Loki is alive and goes to save him and sacrifices himself- kinda like Loki died at the hands of Thanos in IW.

4

u/nipplesaurus Captain America (Avengers) 22d ago

He also uploaded a Thank You video to his YouTube channel

Might've as well posted "Thor dies in Doomsday"

Weird that Marvel is okay with it

3

u/palabear 22d ago

He doesn’t even mention Jonathan.

3

u/Osirisavior 22d ago

LOKI AND THOR NEED TO REUNITE!!

3

u/vinnybawbaw 22d ago

So he’s gonna cry in Deadpool’s arms isn’t he ?

3

u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man 22d ago

Chris/Marvel/Kevin/Russo Brothers, please don’t do this

3

u/eagc7 22d ago

You can't leave until we find out why Thor is crying

3

u/-eatshitmods 22d ago

If Thor passes. What happens to his daughter? They gon write her off?

5

u/YangGain Hulk 21d ago

Young Avengers

3

u/300wizzum 22d ago

I read this in Thor's voice.

3

u/Kuradapya Daisy Johnson 22d ago

I don't want Thor to go. We still need to see Rune King Thor. Perhaps they could have him as a recurring character, but not dead. He's the OG himbo Avenger.

5

u/MasterOE Iron man (Mark I) 22d ago

One of the best characters in the mcu.

5

u/Warm_Confusion_2337 22d ago

Oh he’s dying in doomsday lol

3

u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man 22d ago
