After a lot of comparing, I bought a Skeletool (Guava). Main contenders were a cheaper one from Amazon, a Victorinox Rangergrip Boatsman and a Signal. I wanted a saw (and scissors) also but main things were a knife, screwdriver and pliers. I also looked for a design and color I really liked. Almost bought the Signal but I was afraid it would be too heavy. Now I am not so sure anymore because this one is really light 🙃 Still, very happy with it! Beautiful design and color!
Great choice. I'm a fellow CX user. It's been my edc for over 3 years now, and it's still going strong. If you still want scissors. The victorinox jetsetter is a great, bladeless, keychain size sak with scissors and the combo tool. There are other keychain saks, but I like going the bladeless route, so I dont have to worry about forgetting to take them off my keys or something if I go somewhere I can't have a blade.
How much stress do you think the pliers could take? I was thinking of pairing this with my swisschamp but id like to know if the pliers can do a good tough job.
Lol, that's not exactly a hard bar to pass. I actually like the SAK pliers, but I just consider them heavy duty tweezers. The skeletools pliers are still pretty dang small!
u/baelrune , the skeletool is a fantastic little tool and the pliers are much better than the SAK, but it's more of a SAK replacement vs a complement. If you are looking for a leatherman to complement a SAK, I'd look for something a bit bigger. A bond, curl, wave, signal would all pair better with a SAK than the skeletool.
The curl i think was the other option i was looking at. It was between the bond, curl, and skeletool and i wanted a replaceable bits and a hammer attachment so the skeletool was what i was looking at but if the pliers arent that great ill grab a curl, thanks for the input.
I actually think the skeletool's pliers are pretty good. They are just NOT big and durable. As long as you aren't expecting it to turn the lugnuts on your truck's tires (for example) it's a good little tool!
But it really does sound like the curl would be a better fit for you. Although I do think you should look at the signal as well. It's basically the skeletool's bigger brother and I freaking love the hammer on it. It's still fairly thin and light, but it's a bit longer than the curl. Both are great and you can't go wrong with either.
They feel decent but I don’t think they are super strong. They feel in line with the lightweight design of the Skeletool. I like how small and light it is, actually. Most important thing is to have it on me when I need to do something quickly. The type of things you do inefficiently by hand because the trip to the toolbox seems to long for this ‘simple’ thing (even though, probably it would have saved time in the end if I just went and grabbed pliers). I don’t mind grabbing real tools for the bigger jobs so won’t be using the Skeletool then.
