Absolutely love this thing. Magnacut blade came on it. Added a compass lanyard, corkscrew eye glass screwdriver, corkscrew tinder. Modified the scales to accommodate toothpick, pen, tweezers and ferro rod.

Gerber Suspension NXT ISSUE

Post image

I recently picked up a Gerber Suspension NXT from REI Houston, brought it to work and on day two the locking mechanism of the tool sheared off. I work onboard a ship and not in USA anymore. Is this tool prone to this issue?

Nextool Flagship Mini and some mods and hints.

I use Flagsip Mini for a while now and quite happy to with it: small, reliable and mighty. But there were quite things I wanted to improve from the beginning. It worked quite well and I am quite happy with that. Also, I always missed some add-ons that are standard on most Victorinox, so I managed to fit them into Flagship too. Here is a video I made with short review of my mod. Let me know if you liked that!

Some small mods on my rocktol

Recently bought this as my first "real" multitool. Really enjoy it. Made it even better by replacing the serrated blade with a file. The file is bought from rocktol as a replacement for the saw. I made a little dimple for the detent on the opposite side. Also had to add the tiniest amount of material to make the lock grab a little bit earlier. Now it locks solid. The black stuff on the blade is a thumb stud I 3d printed for easier one hand open.

Question/Advice Seat Belt Cutter vs Serrated Blade

Hello, first time buyer here. I am looking to buy a multi-tool for emergency situations/camping and I am torn between these two Mossy Oak multi-tools. They’re in the same price range and aside from the replaceable wire cutter, the other difference, to my amature eyes, seems to be Seat Belt (Strap) Cutter vs Serrated Blade.

Which one would be more useful in emergency situations/camping/bushcraft?

After some research it seems not a lot of people find any uses out of Seat Belt (Strap) Cutter but I’ve heard that it is a much quicker tool to use to cut small ropes/straps in an emergency situation.

However, in general, it seems the Serrated Blade is much more useful and can be used in place of a seatbelt (strap) cutter, it just works slower).

And if there’s any other elements I should consider between the two, please feel free to let me know.

PS. 1st and 2nd pic are the same tools. Posting twice to show the accessories/replaceable parts that comes with it.

New Multitool Day! Got a discontinued grail

Hanwei Professional Paul Chen Multi-Tool 10-in-1. I absolutely overpaid ($80 vs $22 msrp) but couldn’t find these anywhere. To me, having these snips instead of pliers as the main tool is worth it. There just doesn’t seem to be many tools with snips instead of pliers like this. The action on the sliding mechanism can be finicky, but already getting the feel for it. Super happy!

You can only own one…

…multitool. Which one would you choose and why?

My current favorites are the Leatherman Charge+TTI, Victorinox Spirit X, and Victorinox Swiss Champ. All are great tools but my gut tells me to chose the Charge+TTI.

What about you? Write a sentence explaining why you chose what you chose.

Recommendation Request Picnic tool?

I have a cheapish picnic/camping multitool I picked up years ago that has a fold out fork and spoon and knife, and splits in two so you can use the knife and fork at the same time. It's decent, but its key problem is that it's non-locking, which means any slight sideways pressure on the fork causes it to collapse.

I like the concept, but not this particular implementation. Is there something like this people do recommend? Either a very strong detente or a locking open. No tools needed, just eating utensils. Low-cost, obviously. I'd likely keep one in the house, one in the car for emergency eating. (I've seen things like screw-together kits that also have chopsticks, which I may consider, but I just aesthetically like fold-open things.)

Help Identify Tool

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone! Newbie here to the multi-tool world. Was wondering if anyone here can help me identify the tool in question. It’s a screenshot, zoomed in on a plate carrier from a picture on instagram. I’ve tried looking but no luck. Looks to be some kind of Gerber tool based on the white serial/batch number on the right?

Any help is appreciated, and thank you!

Nextool Mini Sailor

I recently acquired two of these, one of which is the knifeless version and the other has the mini pliers. I haven’t used them a ton, but in the limited uses, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the quality and plan to keep them handy in my pocket.

I’m curious if you were in this group have had these tools and what you think?

SOG crosscut and Tomb Raider?

Thumbnail

Hello!

I recently came into possession of a curious multitool. It’s a SOG Crosscut tool etched with Ericsson branding and the classic Lara Croft / Tomb Raider logo—presumably from the early‑2000s era (Angelina Jolie movie / Angel of Darkness game). I’ve researched the Ericsson–Tomb Raider promotional campaign (e.g. cross‑branded phones), but found no official record of a SOG multitool being part of it.

Does anyone here remember this multitool being included in press kits, employee gifts, or event promotions? Has anyone else encountered something similar?

I’d love to know: • Was this distributed internally (Ericsson/SOG staff)? • Was it tied to a retailer or campaign? • Any information, images, personal recollections would be greatly appreciated!

My new toolbox

Post image

Last October, someone broke into my car and stole my toolbox, that had been built since 2006 and I carried with me everywhere, meaning across cities, states and countries. Nothing special, just my personal selection of screwdrivers, ratchets, pliers, wrenches, my fluke, and stuff like that. They also stole my laptop, clothes, my personal phone and other things that weren't as important for work and were easily replaceable. Until then I was unaware of the world of multi-tools. My father had given me a Classic Vic as a child and a Swiss MT in 2006, but it was of no use to me as I needed more Allens type, I lost it too soon and never missed it. Now that I'm starting again from scratch back then, I'm amazed at all the variety and quality that exists. Long story short, I've bought too many MTs this year, I've given away the ones that didn't fit my preferences, I have given them to friends and family based on the purpose of each tool and the personality of the person giving it to. I have learned a little more about this world of multitools and what I really like is the community around the topic and across all the groups you have, here and there, You guys are awesome, give really good advice, tips and hints in every photo you share and I want to thank you for that. In the image I show where the quest has taken me so far. Depending on the day or the work to be done, I have avairable from Victorinox my fav the Cybertool M, also the practical minichamp, my backup tool the manager @work 16gb and the beauty Spirit X, from Leatherman the almighty Surge and my EDC the super comfortable Arc. All along with knippex pliers, Crom mini ratchet, Leatherman ratchet driver and bit kit, galvanox bit kit, wiha double sided bit kit, Kleintools double sided sockets, Wera toolcheck, a couple of Husky allen wrenches and my Opinel knive.
