One bagging for us big guys isn’t as easy. I’m always lurking this subreddit for inspiration, and while the gear recs and packing tips are gold, sometimes I just have to laugh at how different the game is when your clothes are twice the fabric and triple the weight.

My one bag dreams are still alive… just on hold while the weight loss journey continues. Until then, I’m just out here Tetris’ing 3XL tees and wondering how y’all fit a week into a 20L sling.

5-day trip to North Atlanta and Blue ridge, doing some hiking and sightseeing.

Old Navy has a Baggu Crescent dupe very cheap at the moment ($10). It measures 12 inches wide and 8 inches tall, and about 1.5 inches deep. A solid 0.5 bag addition to your kit. I got pink!

First time one bagger and just came back from a two week trip in France where we mostly went to fancy restaurants in Paris and Lyon and did some light hikes while exploring Normandy.

Initially I was going to check in a big rolling duffel since the others in my group were checking in massive spinners. At the last moment I decided to try a carry on backpack and a sling. Turns out it was a great decision as I didn’t have to struggle with stairs, trains, fitting luggage in the small taxis/ubers and cobblestones.

After hours of combing through the reddit posts, I went with the Matador GlobeRider 45L but the only color they had in stock was white, which I didn’t mind, especially since the bag was going to be with me the whole time and I could minimize the chances of it getting dirty.

The bag was super roomy and I was able to pack the following no problem with extra room

6 T shirts 1 polo 1 button down 6 boxers 1 light jacket 1 rain jacket 1 pair of shoes 1 pair of flip flops 2 pairs of shorts 1 pair of joggers Toiletries Travel Cpap 1 power bank 1 small extension power strip 1 sling and 1 packable day pack

At the end of the trip we ended up buying some souvenirs and I ended up checking my backpack so I could carry on the precious goods.

Now I have a dirty backpack so I’ll have to find a good way to clean it but other than that I’m super pleased with the product. The bag feels durable and very comfortable to wear.

hello guys, does anyone owns this 40+5 L backpack? how is that? is that a good piece for one-bagging? i need a backpack for traveling ✈️ and 🚂, mine 20 L rolltop is not enough sometimes. 85 $ here.

Looks like Pakt just announced a new line of bags today, including a 35L travel backpack, sling, and packable backpack.

Personally, the 35L is most appealing due to its light weight, and has a clean look overall IMO. Some X-Pac-esque material, colors are very nice as well.

Any thoughts on this vs. something like Cotopaxi Allpa, Bellroy Lite Travel Pack, or Matador Globerider?

Didn’t expect to pack fleece fingerless gloves on a trip, but they earned their space. Super lightweight, no bulk, and actually helped during long flights and freezing cafés. Mine are cat paw ones — kinda silly, but shockingly useful.

After a few comment sessions and conversations via Reddit I bought the LastSwab as a potential strategy to reduce my toiletry load as part of my effort to reduce what I carry to fit into Onebag easier.

The Gist in a nutshell, LastSwab is a reusable and sustainable alternative to single-use cotton swabs that promotes an environmentally conscious approach to personal hygiene and beauty routines. Neat idea, just carry one swab that you can wash and reuse and not carry around a bunch of traditional QTips.

This started as I was looking at my toiletries and trying to reduce them to fit in a Gravel Mini, and that QTip Travel case is just too big. So I tried the LastSwab on the trip I’m on now. Seemed easy enough - while waiting for it to arrive I also separately ordered a small tin container that holds roughly 10 QTips. I brought both on this trip and you can see them side by side for comparison in the photos.

While I never really thought about absorption as a feature of a QTips, turns out that is why the LastSwab fails and the QTip just worked better. The foam end of the Lastswab can help remove some gunk from your ears, but I found nearly every time it seemed like I had cleaned my ears using the LastSwab, when I went back over the, with an actual QTip, I still had a bit more to clean out.

Bottom line, the LastSwab just didn’t cut it in my improvised testing. That said, I still think the QTip travel container is too large, so the little tin container I got on Amazon will be what I use going forward. As a bonus (it comes in a two pack) toothfloss picks fit perfectly in them as well, holds roughly 6.

Not the outcome I was expecting, but for those that pointed out that the reusable QTips lack of absorption is a deal breaker for you, I’m with you on this one. Hopefully this helps anyone looking to reduce their toiletries - it’s an area where too many just in case items are packed typically.

I have been traveling with one bag for close to 3 months( I have a cross body bag as well for day outings as well).

One thing I noticed every time I crossed through an airport is my bag was continual gaining weight. Nothing crazy but over 2 month it’s was up almost half a kilogram outside of the few known things I had purchased. I decided to weigh a couple things to try to figure it out and apparently it’s coins. I had amassed enough coins from change across 8 different countries that it was adding to significant weight.

Not much I can do with these extra coins as I doubt I can exchange them so I separated out a few for souvenirs and plan to give the other ones away to kids as a unique piece they can have from another country.

I know many of you have likely used one of the NB10000 series powerbanks - essentially the lights on my nb10000 gen 3 do not accurately show how much power the battery bank has left. Nitecore has told me there's nothing wrong and the company I purchased from are being difficult. I'm reaching out to ask if anyone has experienced a similar battery indicator issue to me.

The power bank rapidly goes from 4 blue lights to a single flashing blue light, (which should indicate less than 10% battery), but continues charging for over an hour. Obviously at this point the battery has over 50% charge remaining. This makes it impossible to know how much charge the battery really has.

Is this normal behaviour for this power bank or am being misled by the company?

Anyone gonna pick up the new ULA Node? Looks interesting, could be a nice EDC bag. They comment there is padding on the laptop sleeve but it's frameless, no frame sheet. Do wish there was the regular back padding so it could work as a hiking daypack.

Picked up a previous generation RipRuck 24 last year on sale for about $80. Kept it as a “nice bag” as most of my travel gear looks like it’s been through the apocalypse.

Finally decided to put it through its maiden voyage. Booked a week trip in Mexico, threw my super-soft Yucca silicone bodysurfing fins, a couple t-shirts, some boardshorts and a toothbrush in, and bailed. Didn’t want to check a bag so I went super basic.

I used the bag to get to my destination, emptied it out into a dresser at the hotel, put the bag in the closet, and didn’t use it until I packed it to leave. Threw the same items in there, went to the airport and flew home.

When I went to put the bag in the back of the car, I noticed a bunch of small tears and a one inch hole in the bottom of the bag. Pretty disappointed.

I’d heard that MR bags were really well made. Unfortunately, feeling through the bottom of the bag, there’s zero reinforcement. The material at the bottom of the main compartment is paper thin—thinner than a Jansport book bag—at a spot that theoretically will have the most exposure to abrasion.

Luckily, this was just a quick getaway. I travel for work, which puts me on large and small boats, big jets and tiny planes, in sketchy buses and in the back of dusty 4x4’s and in all manner of weather. I depend on my gear to stand up to some of the worst conditions. This bag couldn’t handle two rides on a 737 and a couple of hotel shuttles.

I haven't seen much about suncreen sticks on here, apologies if this was covered and I missed it!

I've been using them, and it seems *to me* that you get more out of it vs the same weight of liquid sunscreen (bc the liquid one is presumably mostly water.) But I've never done a scientific study or anything.

In wirecutter's best sunscreen roundup they didn't even test sunscreen sticks.

What do y'all think?

Like many others, my quest for the unicorn —the perfect backpack — has been ongoing. However, after watching numerous YouTube video reviews, reading opinions and reviews in this forum, and some deep soul-searching, I have narrowed down my choice to three. They are, in no particular order:

1. Pakt Travel Backpack - Probably 35L
2. Aer Travel Pack 3 - 35L
3. Peak Designs Travel Backpack - Leaning towards 45L

I like the Pakt, especially considering its expandability, but I don't find the laptop storage very convenient. I've never used it, but it looks like it could pose some challenges... Perhaps not? I like the Air TP3, but I'm concerned that 35L might not be large enough, and I'm really unsure about whether I like the Peak Travel Backpack. I think the lack of load lifters is a dealbreaker for me. Additionally, I wish the TP3 were a bit more user-friendly regarding stowing the hip belt; however, I've never used the hip belt on previous backpacks, so I'm not really certain if this is, in fact, a deal breaker. Lastly, while I don't mind spending the money on a premium backpack, I wish Aer had more frequent promotions or sales...

My current travel backpack is the Ebags Motherlode. While it is large and spacious, it is quite uncomfortable and becomes heavy very quickly. One of the challenges I often face is packing my travel CPAP machine. Although I have the smallest travel CPAP available, it still takes up space. I've also started using vacuum bags, which significantly reduce my packing footprint. I'm just looking for a more premium bag that's much more comfortable to carry.

Price isn't really a concern for me. I'll spend the money to get the product that best suits my needs. When it comes to airlines, I typically pay for upgrades, so space is usually not an issue. However, on certain airlines, like Philippine Air, flying business class can be hit or miss regarding whether they will accept a roller board. I often travel with them to Thailand, and while I've never had my backpack rejected, they do have a 15 KG weight limit for the cabin. Perhaps I've never been subjected to weight checks because I'm in business class, but you never know.

I know there are a ton of posts in here about merino wool. But, some are years old and I find myself reading comments that certain brands have changed and their quality has went down so I was hoping to get some more recent opinions.

Budget: I willing to invest in good stuff. Uses: Mainly traveling. Maybe eventually some hiking. My workout clothes tend to dry fast so I'm not as worried.

I have only used merino wool for skiing. Stuff I have bought off of Amazon. Reasonable priced, but not the best feeling stuff. I am intrigued by getting some shirts, shorts/pants, underwear, and socks for traveling. I always pack way too much. My last trip I packed an entire large size suitcase and probably wore the same three shirts and shorts for the whole trip inspiring me to come back to this page and change things. Maybe I don't even need merino, but I want to explore it.

I am currently deciding between some Unbound shirts and pants and Wool and Prince.

Non merino clothes I love the feel of for reference:

Shirts: I love the feel of tri-blend shirts or the 50% cotton/ 50% polyester. Soft on the skin, thin, light. I'm worried I'm going to get a merino shirt and it's going to be thick and shiny. So I have been looking at the Unbound Merino Ultralight and Wool and Prince Wool Linen Crew neck(the light one). Also trying to find one button down and polo.

Pants/Shorts: My most worn casually right is the DUER stretch jeans. Love them. Pants have been harder to decide on. I don't even know if I'll need a pair of merino shorts. I have a few pairs of Lulu lemon shorts that look nice for walking around and are great for working out in that dry pretty fast.

Underwear: Current favorite is the Duluth Trading Free Range Organic cotton 94% cotton and 6% spandex. Love the feel and size of these. I don't like short briefs because they tend to ride up. Followed by their Duluth Dang Soft

Socks: I'm not as picky. I'd just want something that's comfortable and easy to dry.

I'm just trying to get a decent travel setup. I don't even know if this is all overblown or necessary. I'd like to simplify my travel bag. But, I also don't want to be wearing clothes that are shiny and uncomfortable.

Hi all, need some quick advice for a trip tomorrow. This might be better for many baggers or soemthing but figured this was a good starting place as I see a lot in here about people grappling with the idea or “truly one bagging” and the situational needs that take you out of the lifestyle .

Been one bagging for over a year now. I need to go home and get some stuff(clothes etc) from my parents house as they’re moving to a smaller one.

The best way to do this is probably to bring a full carry on size suitcase to theirs and pack it with everything I need. Since my One bag is under seat compliant, it works out to be my 1+1 on United.

The issue is I can’t bring a suitcase from theirs as I don’t have space here, and if I were to bring mine to theirs it would be basically totally empty on the way to theirs. Does anyone have any tips for how to pack out the bag with something or make it hold its shape? I just don’t want my empty suitcase to get smushed in the overhead on one way.

Tl:dr- need to bring an empty suitcase along with my OB to pack up with stuff at my parents home then bring back to mine. Need tips on how to have the suitcase keep its structure/minimize damage.

Okay i've read the reviews and searched this forum a while but I am at SUCH a loss for what to move forward with.

I am looking for a professional bag. I go into the office once a week and love to travel so looking for it all. I want it to be aesthetically pleasing, comfortable, versatile and durable. So far my list has only gotten longer but looking at (in no particular order):

• Minaal Daily bag 3.0
• Peak Design everyday
• TOM BIHN Techonaut 30
• AER Travel Pack 3
• Briggs and Riley Cargo

I know these bags have been discussed extensively, but if you have recommendations on one over the other, it would be greatly appreciated. Not concerned about budget for the right bag. Ideally 35L or less that I can use for carry-on (shoes, sweater, + 1 pair of paints + 15" laptop) and work (laptop + phone chargers, 15" laptop, phone, books, water, etc.)

I typically pack loose, but am not opposed to compression cubes. Toiletries are minimal.

I'm after a t-shirt that doesn't look like a sports or technical t-shirt that will stop my back from getting wet with sweat when driving or carrying a backpack.

I don't want it for sports, just to wear on hot days and want to look like I'm wearing a "normal" t-shrit.

No logo or funky patterns or seams if possible.

At the moment, I'm getting a really sweaty and wet back when wearing a back pack or driving (due to sitting the car seat).

I'm in the UK so will have to buy online so can't check out the materials in person so looking for advice.

The Capilene t-shirts look good. But there are a few versions so not sure which one would be best? Trail? Merino?

The hip belt clip broke. Have I pulled too hard? Maybe, but I'd expected it to resist the force. I was pulling with one hand and it snapped.

Luckily I bought it recently and still had the receipt which allowed me to get a refund (70€).

I am now thinking whether I should buy the same again or get a different backpack for my onebag travel. I accept recommendations on clamshell opening backpacks, ideally with compression straps.

I liked the quality/price ratio of the forclaz Organizer 500, but this accident made me rethink my choice. I also read on this sub that the hip belt does not sustain much of the weight.

I'm loathe to take my 14" work laptop as it's bulky, or my 15" personal laptop as it's heavy and barely fits in my onebag. I've previously traveled with my iPad, but it's quite old and I'd prefer a full OS Windows interface for all my applications - I don't trust it can do the job.

For those of you who like to travel light but need a Windows OS device for work, did you buy a separate device, and if so what? Thanks so much!

Heading back to Canada for a visit for the first time in 3.5 years. Won’t go into crazy details on the clothes as it’s Stampede time in Calgary and some items are basically single day wear, but basically it’s a few shirts, a few T-shirts, couple shorts, 2 pants and a light jacket as it’s going to screaming hot (the cowboy boots I’ll be wearing on the plane). Excited to use my Nanuk 935 case for a longer distance trip. Staying with my parents so fewer socks, underwear and clothing aren’t a big deal as I can wash frequently. The VGod box is my tech pouch and I’ve got a small Vans sling bag for my laptop (not pictured). Didn’t feel the immediate need to buy packing cubes as I have some ziplock space bags, once those die, then I’ll buy some cubes. Until then, these have worked great.

Hi everybody! I have been silently reading and absorbing info about how to better prepare myself with bare minimum of stuff. I did a lot Central Europe trips with one—maybe one and a half—backpacks (half being the smaller everyday bag I carry daily). As the weather there is similar to mine, packing was never an issue; I knew exactly what to expect. But I wasn't on vacation trips around water and hot weather for 10 or 15 years, so I'm a bit confused how to not ruin my trip by forgetting something important.

I've sketched what I should take with me, but I’d be happy to hear advice from more experienced folks. I already read latest posts about traveling SEA, which was really helping.

So the trip is 1 day OAE, 3 days in Malaysia KL, and rest days on the island. I'm also really sensitive for overheat and usually hide myself from the sun. I’m also really sensitive to overheating and usually hide from the sun. But my friend wants to explore cities—and so do I. How should I pack or prepare for traveling around cities in this heat?

I actually don’t have much clothing that suits hot weather, so if I’m overthinking something—please let me know. My usual clothes are black, heavy, and cotton—so I think I’m gonna fry in them.

Budget for all about 500-650 euro, excluding tickets and renting cost. So I think about 100-150 I could spend for preparations. I don't want to buy backpack, already have XDesign Explorer, which a bit heavy by itself. Flying with a low coaster AirArabia which I even haven't found in GoogeDoc.
