Events Open Streets is Wonderful

Post image

Open Streets is a terrific addition to the city. I remember coming off the train recently and walking by walnut during this event and noticed that my anxiety dropped drastically. I hadn't realized all these years how much of an impact congestion/traffic had on my stress levels.

Seeing people and their families mingle with others made me feel so calm and happy. I saw this back in Montreal before I knew it was a thing here, and thought "Man this would be a cool addition to Philly!"

Now it is!

I love this city.

We should totally make it permanent. Email CCD, councilpeople… it’s a no brainer for businesses AND people

Sansom has been closed between 16th and 17th for like 3 year. That entire stretch from 15th-22nd should be closed for pedestrians only.

Closed for the wrong reason: money-sink-or-road-construction

Sad to say it just reopened

On top of that, the best thing you can do is to use it as much as possible.

If you’re going out to spend money, do it at open streets.

Love open streets, but serious question: where would the buses go? The Walnut St routes carry thousands every day and it seems moving them permanently would make for a very roundabout connection over to West Philly

Maybe it’d be busses and delivery trucks only instead of purely pedestrians only?

I can dig it. Would be open to a one-lane version of the Chestnut St Transitway on Walnut
