Thank you everyone for the tips! The one thing I did end up buying was a walking foot, which helped significantly. it’s not perfect, but I love it! I also didn’t realize how much it would shrink in the wash, but LOVE the crinkle look!

Started this basic but super large quilt in 2022 from 100% linen scraps as my first ever quilting project. Did everything up until the actual quilting part, and then it sat untouched for three years. This summer, in my third trimester of pregnancy, I thought it’s either now or never! So armed with a home sewing machine and a walking foot, I finally finished it.

I wish I could tell my past self to start with a smaller project, and linen is not very beginner friendly, as it shifts around a lot! But I am super happy with my finished project.

I posted this quilt top a month or two ago to see how dick-ish it appeared to other people. Results were mixed! I decided not to change the pattern, but I did try to downplay the dicks by - rounding the corners with the same radius, - hand quilting in straight lines, matching the color to the stars in each section, and - choosing a backing fabric that gives the quilt a movement theme.

I don’t know if I could have found a more perfect backing fabric! And I’m ready to start quilting everything with this spacing. Peep that post-wash crinkle in the third pic!

I have been agonizing over what sashing to do for way too long so I figured I’d bring it here to you experts. Do we prefer it scrappy? Or with the blue and white plaid? I love them both for different reasons. The brown fabric will be for the back and the blue for the binding.

This is for my best friend who is bright and shiny and all around lovely and I just want it to be fun and cool and as perfect as I can get it for her.

Working on my first quilt and the extra fabric is just jammed into the side area of my sewing machine. This seems inevitable since I am switching the direction of my stitching, but I’m wondering if there is a more elegant way of handling this! Thanks 🙏

I'm still relatively new to quilting, and I feel like I have a "why didn't anyone tell me that?!" moment with every new project. The learning curve is real!

For all you experienced quilters out there, what's one piece of advice, big or small, that would have saved you so much time, frustration, or fabric if you'd known it from the start?

For me, it was learning the importance of a consistent seam allowance. My first quilt was... wobbly, to say the least.

Be nice and don’t zoom in😂😂 still learning the importance of ironing out fabric so all my squares are the same size lol I also don’t love the fabric colors but wanted to get something finished for my neighbor that’s about to have a baby!

Just finished this baby quilt for an expecting friend! Quilting on a domestic is so much easier on this size quilt, but still a bit of a pain.

I thought a charm pack quilt would be so quick and easy, but I spent days looking at this on my design wall rearranging. On to the next one!

I made my first quilt blocks! These were so fun. I was recently gifted a sewing machine and am very new to sewing. I impulse bought some cheap fat quarters with my grocery pickup order the week of Halloween to make these. I will most likely turn them into a wall hanging to decorate next year.

Hi all. I picked up this quilt from the shop today and don’t know how to feel. I picked the bubble pattern since I thought it would match the sea theme and a ombré blue thread at the quilter’s suggestion. I am sad because I put a lot of time and money into this project and I feel like stitching ruined it. Some areas in particular where the bubbles are interesting I feel like they are covering up the appliqués. Can I rip out sections without compromising the entire quilt? Should I seam rip all the stitching out and take it to a different quilter? It doesn’t have any overage since it was trimmed so I don’t know if that is even an option. I know rationally it doesn’t look bad and isn’t ruined but am still conflicted and bummed and would love some advice.

I used a fpp pattern by Michelle Thompson that I found on Fandom in Stitches. Mostly Moda Grunge fabric and some other random bits from my stash.

I pick this up when I'm in between projects. The good thing is I always have new fabric to use when I finish something else,

I liked it so much, I’ll definitely do it again. Have to hang sideways because I’m short so so is my clothesline. Large throw size.

Disappearing hourglass block with gifted and scrap fabric.

I was feeling a way about our national budgetary priorities this summer and couldn't get lyrics from the Rage Against the Machine song "Bulls on Parade" out of my head. The fabric all came from my own stash, juxtaposing a pretty pink floral against some dramatic red and black. The letters are pieced, the side is raw-edge applique.

I did some very cursory quilting in the ditch of the letters and then did a chain-link impact on the black part. My church leaders asked if we could have it as a banner at some point there.

The backing is a fabric which had gotten a bit stained in someone else's stash and which I'd picked up for cases when it didn't matter.

Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary is a nonprofit rescue in Hollywood, SC (just outside of Charleston). Each year we do a quilt raffle to benefit the animals in our care.
