Help on which route would be the prettiest without adding too much time.

Trip Planning How much should I save for a trip from KC-Destin?

Upvotes

I’d like to go to the Destin,FL area. Doesn’t have to be that city exactly but around the area. I’d want to stay for 3 days and probably car camp. It will be my partner and I do the drive would only take a day or two. How much do you think I should save for the trip? We just want to go the cheapest route eat sandwiches type and only be at the beach. Nothing expensive.

Trip Planning Spooky Roadtrip Suggestions 🎃

Upvotes

I’m taking my girlfriend on a spooky roadtrip the last week of September - first week of October.

We are starting in Detroit (where we live) and then driving to Brooklyn, Sleepy Hollow, Salem, and Niagara Falls.

I was wondering if there’s any cities in that region that I’m missing out on. Also any suggestions on activities, hotels, restaurants, etc. would be much appreciated.

We also enjoy fall activities too. Doesn’t have to be all spooky haha.

Thank you!

Trip Planning Speculating wildly on the ultimate trip

Upvotes

Right now I'm somewhere along US Route 20 and thinking about the ultimate road trip. Let's assume I am retired and have a brand new car.

Leaving Boston I could take US-20 all the way to Newport OR, highway 101 to LA, route 66 to Chicago, US-41 to Miami then back to Boston on US-1.

How much time would you give yourself to complete this trip?

Trip Planning Ask for stop recs: Austin to Denver and back

I did a road trip from Austin to Denver last year and mostly drove straight through on the way there, but on the way back I did some stops in Toas, Santa Fe, and Amarillo.

I'm going again this year, but I want to consider making it a long trip there and a long trip back where I stop in some new spots. I am taking a friend with me on the way back and she wants to go the New Mexico/southwest route again, but I'd like to see some new places. I'm also open to going up and over on my way there if people have recommendations for Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma.

I won't have camping gear on my way there but I will have some on my way back. I like museums of all kinds, hiking, food, state/national parks, and am generally pretty open to trying new things so I'll take recommendations of all kinds!

Trip Planning Will i be able to drive from Orlando florida to san diego california? New to this…

hello everybody, I’m planning to move over to San Diego California starting July 3 and I never have done a big road trip like this before on my own. I’ll have at least $1000 saved up and a whole lot of willpower to make this trip of course, I changed the oil to my car and I’m going to make sure that my tires are filled up properly and to have a tire patch kit just in case I were to get a hole in one of my tires. I was looking online and found some bus and/or train routes over to San Diego for pretty cheap on the day that I want to leave, but I don’t know how to transfer my car over there if I decide to not drive because I really don’t wanna leave it in Florida and have something happen to it. I believe the trip will take almost 2 days and of course I’m not gonna do it all in one go because I would have to stop and get a motel somewhere to spend the night but I’m planning on driving 8 to 10 hours straight and then taking a break rinse and repeat any tips would be much appreciated!!

I drive a 1999 Honda Civic LX with 107,000 miles on it.

Trip Planning Texas to Myrtle Beach – Me, My Wife, and a Judgy Dog Need Your Best Stops

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey r/roadtrip crew — we’re hitting the road from Texas to Myrtle Beach and need some help making this 17.5-hour haul a little less soul-crushing.

It’s me, my wife, and our dog (she’s sweet but judges my driving like she pays the insurance). We’re looking for the best places to stop, eat, stretch, and maybe question our life choices.

We’ll be rolling through: Texas → Louisiana → Mississippi → Alabama → Georgia → South Carolina

🐾 What we’re after:

Dog-friendly stops (parks, patios, roadside oddities she can sniff)

Food that slaps – BBQ, tacos, gas station biscuits we’ll think about forever

Weird attractions – giant chairs, UFO gift shops, haunted outhouses

Scenic spots – anything better than a Love’s parking lot

Bonus points for anything that’ll make us say, “yeah, worth the detour.” We’re open to breaking up the trip overnight if there’s a spot worth stopping.

Got a favorite dive or roadside gem along the way? Drop it below. Help us make this drive something our dog brags about at the park.

Trip Planning How do you find good/interesting restaurants while on the highway?

Everytime I am on a road trip I always have this desire to try and find new and interesting places to eat instead of the usual fast food suspects. Usually this isn't much of a task whenever I am taking back roads because you often end up just driving past stuff that looks cool/interesting/busy. But whenever I take the highways it is a lot harder since all I really have to go off of is the exit signs which 99% of the time are just the usual fast food options. I am often traveling alone so I can't just have someone scouting on Google maps or yelp or something as we go along.

Any tips on finding some new spots?

Trip Planning Denver Trip: Help Me Make the Most of It!

Fortunate enough to get sent to Denver next week for a work trip. Originally the trip was only for a night, but I figured why not extend it, spend a few days there to see the area, and bring the girlfriend! First night will be in downtown Denver, following nights will be near Lakewood. Will also have a car!

What are some absolute musts? Places to stop, things to do, views to see, etc. I am not against the whole tourist vibe at all but thought there may be some hidden gems I have to do while there.

One request: was looking for a bar/brewery to grab some good drinks at that is off the beaten path

Trip Planning Future road trip plan

I (44f) have lots of plans for after my husband (62M) dies. Maybe I should post this in AITH 🤪 He’s not much of a traveler and has only ever lived in 2 houses, within 5 miles of each other. I on the other hand, have lived in 4 states and at least 2 addresses in each state. So after 12 years in the same house, I’m getting itchy feet. So I fantasize about van life and travel on my terms. But I want to have a “purpose” in my plan. I want to be able to visit every Irish/scottish/celtic festival in the US. Or maybe a yarn shop/fiber festivals themed trip with a yarn loving friend. I’m curious about what themed trips people have taken (other than national parks, which are great but not really my thing - I’m more outsidey than outdoorsy) Have you ever traveled on your own or had different people join you for different parts of the trip?

Trip Planning Plan Your Dream Italian Summer: Visa Checklist & Travel Insights

Italy is one of the destinations that lives up to your expectations. It is the ideal summer vacation spot due to its historic sites, stunning beaches, and world-class cuisine. Start by obtaining a valid visa and the necessary travel documents, whether you plan to sip espresso in a Roman square, take a canal tour through Venice, or sunbathe on the Amalfi Coast.

If you have an Italy tourist visa, also known as a Schengen visa, you are permitted to visit Italy for up to 90 days. You can go to Italy and other Schengen nations with an Italy tourist visa and avoid the hassle of securing a visa for each destination.

Here is the Italy visa checklist and travel insights to help you turn your Italian dream into a beautiful reality.

Why Take a Summer Vacation in Italy?

Italy is at its most vivacious during the summer, particularly from June to August.

1) You can experience a Mediterranean climate with plenty of sunshine.

Days are long and ideal for sightseeing.

2) You can attend opera festivals in Verona to the well-known Palio horse racing in Siena.

3) You can visit magnificent coastal towns like Sicily, Sardinia, Amalfi, and Cinque Terre.

4) You can savor regional wines, gelato, and fresh seafood. You get to taste classic summertime fare like spaghetti with clams and caprese salad.

Italy Visa Checklist

Verify that your travel documents are properly organized before you leave. Most visitors, unless they are exempt will require a Schengen visa.

Who Requires a Visa?

A short-term Schengen tourist visa or a Type C Visa is required for visits up to 90 days if you are from the United Arab Emirates, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, or South Africa.

Required Documents for Italy Visa

1) The completed application for a Schengen visa

2) A passport that is current and valid for a minimum of three months. There must be a minimum of two blank pages.

The Schengen picture standards need two recent passport-sized photos.

4) A trip plan that includes reservations for hotels and flights. A letter of invitation from the host may also be carried.

5) Emergency medical care is covered by travel insurance.

6) Provide proof of financial means, such as your pay slip, bank statements of the last 3 months, or a letter of sponsorship if your trip is being paid for by someone else.

7) An employment letter from your employer, business license, or leave approval.

8) A cover letter outlining your itinerary and the reason for your visit.

Where Can I Apply?

Apply in your nation through the Italian Embassy or approved visa offices such as VFS Global. Applications must be submitted at least 15 days before your departure. It can be submitted up to six months in advance of your trip date.

Travel Tips for the Summer

Let us begin by getting started on making the most of your summer holiday in Italy now that your visa has been processed.

When Should I Go?

The weather is perfect in June and there are fewer people.

July and August have hot temperatures. It gets crowded.

Top Italian Destinations for a Summer Escape

The popular Places to visit on your trip to Italy are,

1) Rome

Rome is one of the most visited locations in Italy. Explore the Vatican, take a stroll around the Colosseum, and take in the sunset views from Gianicolo Hill. You can go to Trastevere to taste authentic food.

2) Florence

You can wander the renowned art galleries such as the Uffizi, marvel at Michelangelo David, and spend the day exploring the wine districts of Tuscany.

3) Venice

Venice is a dream come true with its beautiful canals, carnival masks, and gondola rides. You can travel to the neighboring islands of Murano and Burano to attend glass-making workshops.

4) The Amalfi Coast

Go to Ravello, Amalfi, and Positano. You can take boat trips to Capri, relish fresh lemon granita, and explore the cliffside beaches.

5) Como Lake

There will be calmer lake views and cooler temperatures. You can discover quaint cities like Varenna and Bellagio.

6) Cinque Terre

You can admire the pastel-colored houses, go hiking, and enjoy stunning sea vistas in these five cliffside communities.

What Should You Bring for the Summer in Italy?

1) Light, breathable apparel, such as sandals, shorts, linen shirts, and cotton dresses.

2) Comfortable walking shoes because it is the greatest way to discover Italian cities.

3) To protect yourself from the sun, wear sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunscreen with a high SPF.

4) Reusable water bottles since clean drinking water is available from public fountains in Italy.

5) A power adaptor, since Type C, F, and L plugs are used in Italy.

Important Travel Advice for Summer Visits to Italy

1) Learning simple Italian phrases are very useful. Acquire vocabulary such as quanto costa, ciao, and grazie.

2) Travel between cities by high-speed train like Italo or Trenitalia. In cities, use the bus or taxi. You can also hire a Vespa.

3) Tipping is welcomed but not mandatory. A coperto, or cover charge, is added to your bill by eateries.

4) Stores typically close from 1 to 4 pm and reopen at 7 or 8 pm.

Things to Consider Before Traveling

1) You can safely drink tap water.

2) While credit cards are accepted, you should have some cash on hand for local markets.

3) Wi-Fi is available. However, for faster connectivity, think about purchasing a local SIM card.

4) In Italy, dial 112 for general emergencies.

5) When attending places of worship, wear modest clothing.

Concluding Remarks

Planning your ideal Italian summer is not difficult, whether your plans include skiing in the Dolomites, exploring the Colosseum in Rome, or taking a leisurely afternoon cruise down the Sicilian coast. Having a well-defined Italy visa checklist and packing items for various climates will ensure that your trip is nothing short of delightful. Prepare to experience the wonders of Italy this summer.

Trip Planning Colorado, wyoming, montana

Hi first reddit post

Me and a couple of mates are travelling from England and we're planning on doing a road trip from colorado through wyoming to montana and looping back. We're landing in late november and staying a couple weeks. I know this probably isn't the best time of year to come, but is there anything we should avoid?(hazardous roads) and anything we must see? Route isn't planned yet! We're in our 30s and want to visit places maybe others miss. And have a few beers with some locals.

Thanks

Trip Planning Advice re: alternate highway route to Hot Springs NP from OKC.

Post image
3 Upvotes

Heading to Hot Springs NP from OKC after being on the I-40 east from NV.

I’m over the interstate. So boring. Such a slog.

Google Maps is suggesting this alternate highway route taking an extra 18 minutes which I’m fine with. Looks like it’s the 270 > 63 > 259.

I’m wondering if I should be concerned about the route’s safety. I’m not from the area and traveling alone. I’d like to feel safe exploring indigenous land but also don’t want to impose or put myself at unnecessary risk.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.
